Yes they are all dire and it's absolutely the salt reduction. I knew tinned soup was forever fucked when I recently tried good old heinz tomato and it was just...meh. 😭

Can’t beat tinned for tomato though. Fresh tomato soup just tastes like a big acidy bowl of chopped tomatoes. I can’t do it.

I find the few I have tried in the past to be quite acidic. I love the cubed vegetable soups in the vegetarian area of the freezer section.

I think you just have to cook the shit out of it, like simmer it for hours,and/or add a lot of sugar.

Homemade soup is the only soup you need, I make it at least once a week expect for summer.

yanbu all tinned soup is horrible, I’m not sure if the soup has changed or if it’s my taste though. I used to love a Heinz tomato or lentil soup but they are bland and horrible now.

I haven't yet found a tinned soup that tastes of anything other than tinned soup. It has its own special food category. They always seem highly processed, gloopy and artificial tasting now. I think "fresh" soup (the ones in the plastic tubs) has spoilt the appeal forever.

I go on a decent tinned soup hunt every so often and have so far failed miserably.

As an aside, I've always hated tinned tomato soup and cream of chicken. Used to love oxtail, but you rarely see that these days. Probably just as well.

Almost everything premade tastes bloody awful now, with a few exceptions. I made the mistake of getting some Bisto ready meals for the nights I can't make it back from work on time to make tea before the other half leaves and they are absolutely rank. They literally taste like cardboard. When I read the reviews like I should have done before buying them everyone was saying how awful the gravy granules are now as well.

We're probably living through one of the most joyless decades in recent memory...! Thanks Jamie and other up their own backsides virtue signallers...on a serious note, the soup makers you can get are really good now, or just slow cooker the heck out of it all and then blend it.

I just make my own soup, though not tomato soup. Makes loads for next to nothing, I couldn't justify £1.70 for a tin that tastes of nothing.
