NatCs rally take 2

AIBU to think that the recent NatCs rally in London has been an excellent opportunity for them to show the wider public who they are and what they truly believe for which we should all be very grateful?

Starkey and Philips. What a match for a left of centre listener. Who, hopefully, enjoys a laugh at their expense.

Well Starkey is often deliberately controversial. He says provocative things to draw attention, and get people thinking. I also find him entertaining. Germaine Greer does the same.

What has Melanie Phillips said that you disagree with? (Other than Israel has a right to exist no doubt. Which it clearly does.).

I always like to listen to a range of thoughtful voices. Consider all the different sides. Otherwise you end up in an echo chamber.

She blamed the Croydon riots on single mothers? Will that do?

Piggywaspushed · 18/05/2023 17:54

She wrote Londonistan, which is overt Islamophobia?

LikeWater · 18/05/2023 17:58

No she didn’t blame mothers. She observed that these aggressive, violent ‘feral’ children mostly come from single parent households. Which is true. She could have said households with absent fathers.

She'd know doubt have been shocked to learn that a former Prime Minister created several single parent households all by himself.

She wrote an article in the Times with the headline “National Conservatism is not a fascist plot.”

It's behind paywall so I can't comment on the content.

Do we think that she doesn't know much about National Conservatism, fascism or both?

It, sorry.

Their ideology is basically selfish nihilism and shameless greed.

Scary stuff which almost seems like they’re nudging us into this. First make it harder to vote then try to convince us that we don’t want to vote anyway.

I think the Right (Daily Mail, GB News, Farage, the Tory Right, Telegraph, Spectator etc etc) have gone very sinister because they've had their own way for the last 13 years in every election and referendum etc and all their policies are an unmitigated disaster. "At last a true Tory budget".

The more they get their own way the more unhinged they get. Maybe a period of Labour in power will get them to calm down the rhetoric a bit and come back a bit more even keeled like Labour were forced to after the Corbyn years.

DuncinToffee · 18/05/2023 18:18

Very quick google came up with these DM headlines

MELANIE PHILLIPS: It's not just absent fathers, Mr Cameron. Family breakdown is driven by single mothers on benefits

MELANIE PHILLIPS: Here's my radical cure for the epidemic of single mothers

She is an awful woman but I presume there is something about her wider views which we are supposed to endorse.

There is a strong correlation between growing up on a single parent household and adolescent crime.

Is it that she knows what a woman is?

Would that be to do with poverty , perchance?

I have literally read all the research on the London Riots. Please don't think to patronise me.

The Londonistan comment is controversial but it’s to draw attention to the fact that people, men in particular, are arriving into our communities with completely different fundamental values and attitudes to our own western values. Many are coming from misogynistic, homophobic etc. cultures. We don’t know what impact it will have.

Obviously I don’t agree with demonising single mothers. Often newspaper editors put their own headline on articles.
I don’t agree with everything she says or the way she says it but there is often more than a grain of truth.

DuncinToffee · 18/05/2023 18:36

So Germany mucking up twice, are we to believe that is just provocative as well?

Piggywaspushed · 18/05/2023 18:37

Have you read Londonistan?

Jellycatbat20 · 18/05/2023 18:45

I think we have a new contender for Serena Joy....go Gilead!!!!!! But only if they're the right KIND of babies, obviously....

Piggywaspushed · 18/05/2023 18:46

Is there a grain of truth in her support for Andrew Wakefield, her climate change denial or her implied Islamophobia directed at Obama? Struggling here.

We have immigrants arriving from the NatC event?
Goodness that is worrying news.

The importance of the conference is about what it tells us of the potential future of the Conservative Party. There is nothing inevitable here but it is a perfectly plausible – even likely – scenario that Sunak loses the next election, resigns and in the ensuing leadership election MPs allow a candidate to go forward – presumably Suella Braverman – who has an agenda very similar to that which we have heard this week. My confidence that the Conservative Party members would reject this nonsense is not overwhelming.

The National Conservatives are a glimpse of the Tories’ grim future

It is perfectly plausible that Suella Braverman or another NatCon candidate will be the next Tory leader.
