Elf Bar witchcraft

I've name changed before posting this but have been here a good while.

I am a smoker...a heavy smoker. Over the past year I've been getting crosser and crosser with wasting so much money. I started to see disposable vapes in all the shops and noticed how much cheaper they are.

Over the years I have tried to stop smoking a few times and have tried lots of alternatives including vapes (last time was 5 years ago)

On Saturday I bought an elf bar on a whim, just to see what they were like. For the rest of the day I smoked miles less than I would have normally done

Yesterday, I smoked 10 fags (or there abouts) to my normal 30ish. This is with drink and a smoking DH.

Today I have had 5 and am choosing the elf bar as default.

This is witchcraft isn't it??

I realise there are many potential risks with a vape (the reason I have always said I won't vape) however I'm sick to the back teeth of smoking and everything to do with it...yet I can't stop. This contraption has, so far, had the same effect, completely by accident. I haven't made a decision to quit smoking (if I tell myself I'm not allowed to smoke I will immediately smoke 20 fags as that's how my brain works lol) but I cannot believe how effective these things have been!! I have cigarettes on the side yet I've just gone to the vape instead.

Has anyone else had this? If you have what are your tips and recommendations for flavours to help me swap out the fags for good!

You’ll be good I have 2 Vaproesso XROS and they are good and so easy to use. The pod is magnetic and just click off the lid to refill. They come with a C charge cable and charge fast too, plus you can vape and charge if necessary.

Love the the Elf liquids I like Mango, watermelon, apple peach, grapefruit, blueberry. I don’t get the love for Cotton Candy though, it gave me an awful aftertaste and I just couldn’t get on with it.

Coasterfan · 10/05/2023 17:23

I m on 37 days smoke free greatly aided by several elf bars! I also had 40cm of blocked arteries in my leg caused by smoking, the bypass operation the surgeons tried failed and they wanted to amputate my lower leg. I m 43 and always thought it would never happen to me despite knowing smoking was bad for my health! I had an angioplasty following the failed bypass which no one expected to work, I expected to lose my leg. Luckily it has worked, for now but my arteries may close again and I may still face amputation. All for the sake of smoking.
I m not the lecturing type , each to their own, but I just wanted to share my story, I had no idea this was possible at my age, I expected to have breathing issues in my 60s but I didn’t expect to be struck down at 43. Luckily I am slowly recovering now but that’s after 6 months of agony, 33 days in hospital over 4 separate stays and untold stress to my kids and DH. All completely avoidable and self inflicted.

@justteanbiscuits glad I'm not the only one that read the 3 day thing! Do report back how it is. I'm thinking of getting one too.

Wow @Coasterfan, glad to hear you're on the mend! You never think it'll be you do you - it's something that happens to other people!

Well done on quitting. I'm on my third day with no fags now. I've been amazed at how easy it has been with the bars - I genuinely wouldn't even consider smoking a cigarette now, it's so strange!

Littledogball · 10/05/2023 19:42

Try Totally Wicked. I use VLTZ Refuel. Really good, cheap, rechargeable.

justteanbiscuits · 10/05/2023 20:30

I had an ischemic stroke last year which has been my impetus to quit! As you said, thought I was way too young for things like that

Maverickess · 10/05/2023 20:40

Well done @Zoologydragon 3 days is brilliant, and everyone else that has quit cigarettes!

I've heard about the 3 days thing - I didn't particularly notice an issue at 3 days but someone told me it's 3 days, 3 weeks, 3 months and then 3 years that are the challenge points - I only remembered because my last attempt at quitting before this one I gave up quitting - at 3 months!

Stopdropnroll · 10/05/2023 20:48

I've just ordered a refillable elf bar and pods off the back of this thread! Fed up of spending so much on cigs!

Zoologydragon · 10/05/2023 20:52

Thankyou @Maverickess I think it seems so easy due to having replaced it with the vapes. There are fags in the house at all times (dp is a smoker) however I've now noticed that they're smelly - we only smoke outside thank god.

@Stopdropnroll hooray for you 😁 if I can cut down (the original vague idea) you can too!! I worked out on the first day that every fag I didn't smoke save me 62.5p!

@Littledogball I went into their shop earlier and they were lovely!! I was only buying disposables but he was so lovely and is going to let me try the one you mentioned next time I go in.

WiddlinDiddlin · 10/05/2023 21:13

I use a big box with rechargeable batteries, its having something in my hand, the fast nicotine hit and exhaling 'something' that does it for me.

I've dropped nicotine quite low now, and haven't really looked at cigs since I gave up about 8 years ago.

The witchcraft lies in that combination of instant nicotine, something in your hand and something to exhale. No other replacement/quit smoking option can provide that, and so they fail.

Zoologydragon · 10/05/2023 21:35

@WiddlinDiddlin I've tried before with vapes and have been successful for all of an hour. Not sure if it's because I'd made the decision to quit before and the minute I"m not allowed something I want all of it or that this time I didn't make that decision or what.

Or it's the money because I'm tighter than a ducks behind 😂

@Zoologydragon I’ve used elf bars before bu you’ve inspired me to try again. I like your approach of not actively quitting.
Well done to you.

Twoscotcheggsandajarofmarmite · 10/05/2023 22:40

For me I think it’s not pissing about with chargers and filling things. I’m not organised enough for the proper vape so they’ve never worked for me. I love that it’s instant gratification, buy it, puff it, get the hit. I can’t think why else this has worked so easily after so many years. I never thought I’d be able to quit but I haven’t had one cigarette, and I haven’t even wanted one.

Zoologydragon · 10/05/2023 22:59

@Arewehumanorarewecupboards I promise I only bought it as I wanted to try it as they're everywhere and if I could knock out a few fags it would pay for itself. The cost of cigarettes just wound me up!

I am/was a heavy cigarette smoker.

I bought it on the Saturday Lunchtime and decided I would take it in the car (I am Prolific car smoker) and see what happened. By sat eve I was alternating fag/elf bar and the following day is when it just sort of started to happen itself. I had a pack of fags and they were open...I just didn't want them! I then borrowed a couple from DP latter part of last week. I had one Sunday night and there were none around on Monday morning.....so I just tried vaping instead of invading DP'S supply of fags.

That was it.

Once it became apparent the vapes were saving me money and I wasn't really smoking I bought a few and I rotate through them multiple times a day.

I may not want a fag but I will go nowhere without a vape....it is early days though.

I think, try a stick - if it quarters how much you smoke then It's money well spent. Don't aim for quitting as that's lots of pressure and is made into such a big deal - each fag you cut out is saving you well over 50p.....if a bar helps you knock one on the head a day that's £200 a year.

Despite buying lots of vapes in random flavours I have saved £70 this week. Seventy pounds

I feel foolish at the min lol

WiddlinDiddlin · 11/05/2023 03:35

I think in the early days all I conciously did was tell myself to have a vape first, then if i still wanted a cig, I could have one.

And after about day 2... I just didn't.

I did try cigs a couple of years later in Belgium on hols, having left my vape in the hotel room and I couldn't even manage a whole roll up.. bleurgh!

That’s bonkers. I’m going to buy one today while I still have a fairly full pack of cigarettes.

Lillygolightly · 11/05/2023 11:47

I can’t recall exactly how many years it been since I gave up smoking but it’s got to be getting on for 10. The last time I bought a pack of 20 they were just under £8 a pack. A friend asked me to pick up a pack a few weeks ago and I was honestly astounded by the price!! When I first started smoking a pack of 10 was roughly £1.10 and you could get a cheap crappy pack of 20 for just less that £2!

I definitely dual fuelled at first when I got my first decent vape but was completely off the cigarettes within a couple of weeks. Some years later on a night out I had a cigarette with a friend and honestly couldn’t even have it, tasted awful and made me light headed so don’t ever worry about going back to smoking anymore. I have also given up vaping for about a year but I went back to it.

Same here.

I had one of my Aunts Superkings a month or so ago.
It tasted horrible I am glad to say.
Vaping is the future for Me.

justteanbiscuits · 11/05/2023 13:24

My Vaporesso is here! (got to love next day delivery!). I used Vape Superstore and asked a million questions on their chat and they were lovely and helpful.

Pod filled and left it 30 minutes to settle. Might take a little getting used to from disposable as it's a looser drag (a new term from watching youtube videos when I couldn't get the top off the pod! It's easy, I was just doing it with pod out of the main body!)

Need to work on flavours. I ordered 5 different ones - number 1 is blue razz lemonade and it's too sweet! I probably need to find a vape shop!

Verv · 11/05/2023 13:45

How long does an elf bar last?
Just seen that my local shop has them at a tenner for 2.

I vape but use a pod kit and liquid, but elf may be handy for days when I dont want to cart a bag full of liquid coils spare kits chargers etc around with me

There are meant to be 600 puffs.

Thank you :)

Stopdropnroll · 12/05/2023 18:43

My elf bar has arrived!!

Zoologydragon · 12/05/2023 20:57

@Stopdropnroll what do you think?

To everyone else who has commented.....thankyou! I have a vaporesso in my basket at multiple online shops. I'm still not brave enough 😂

I am on day 5 of zero cigarettes and it's honestly completely fine. I have a few disposables on me at all times BUT I started a new job this week and have been going 5 hours with nothing.

I actually told my DP today I will never smoke another cigarette! For me, having multiple bars in differing flavours on the go is working well.

I am still completely dumb struck as this wasn't really why I bought one. The idea of me quitting was laughable to be honest.

To anyone who has just bought one....hooray for you! Think of the money, don't put pressure on yourself and have a proper fag if you want one.

I have found riot tobacco bars really good for the morning/last thing/I'm going to throttle my child moments!
