So fed up of my flat stinking of pot/anti social behaviour

I live in a small block of flats. There's 12 of us, and until recently it's been fine. A new couple moved in and ever since its been hell. A few highlights-

-a screaming argument at 4am that turned physical and was so bad multiple police vans turned up. They have arguments at least once a week but usually more.

  • their dealer accessing the flat courtyard by the back gate, threatening to put their windows in and screaming obscenities until he was dragged away by the police
  • they sit and smoke pot in the communal area/stairs and it stinks to the point i dread bringing my kids in. They've just been smoking it and now my flat also stinks (for context, the front door is about 2m from my bedroom door and i can smell it in my bed.) If i dry anything innthe hall, it stinks too (to the point I was pulled aside at work about it!)
  • they jam both the back security gate and the main (key fobbed) security doors open so their druggie mates can get in. I've had stuff stolen from my post box (they're locked but it was forced open)

I've just had to put my uniform back in the wash because I had the airer in the hall and it all stinks. I'm so fucking fed up of them being selfish and generally disruptive twats. I'm sick of ringing the police because they're fighting again or one of their mates is trying to break into the place. It's so bad I'm actually scared to be in the communal areas when they're in them.

Wibu to speak to to Thirteen? (Social housing, though in a smaller "decent/nice" area). I'm unfortunately not in a position where I could move. (pic is of my hall to show the space - please don't judge the carpet, I'm waiting for my new hoover to arrive!)

A serial complainer?! It's all really bad antisocial behaviour, I'm assuming your clothing was inside your own flat but the smell came in? This sounds really awful/stressful. Why are they smoking there?

WTF? serial complainer?

And she's not drying clothes in a communal area.

Read it again!

LightDrizzle · 30/04/2023 22:26

Keep a diary and complain to the housing association. Are you friendly with neighbours? The more tenants who complain, the better.

When you write, be sure to mention the problems it is causing you at work. Invite them to send a representative to visit you in your flat.

They are nightmare neighbours and you are only a serial complainer in as much as they have unfortunately given you a series of things to legitimately complain about! 🥴

HauntedPencil · 30/04/2023 22:29

The line " they can't help it if their dealer screams obscenities" is not one you read daily is it

HauntedPencil · 30/04/2023 22:29

Poor lambs 😆🥴🥴

The hall is not a communal area?

I 100% disagree with this post, the OP is not a serial complainer, she is being subjected to the most awful antisocial, criminal and threatening behaviour in her own home, which is impacting on her and her children's quality of life, and she should be speaking to the housing association, and this couple should be evicted.

pollykitty · 30/04/2023 22:32

Pot smokers are the worst. I’m sorry OP

The hall is not a communal area?

The hall is quite clearly the space between OPs front door and the rest of their flat. Even if you've never lived in a flat you can surely understand the difference between the communal areas and a hall.

NeatCompactSleeper · 30/04/2023 22:33

No.

And you live there, do you?

Yes, the communal hall between the front doors.

No, I'm just better at reading than you are.

The OP says

they sit and smoke pot in the communal area/stairs and it stinks to the point i dread bringing my kids in.

She then says

I've just had to put my uniform back in the wash because I had the airer in the hall and it all stinks.

And as if that wasn't enough, she also provided a photo of said hall 🙄

louderthan · 30/04/2023 22:37

The picture isn't of the front doors to different flats opening off the communal area. It's of the different rooms opening off the private enclosed hall of the OP's flat.

I dont think you would be quite so blase if this was happening to you, although your minimising of this horrible situation makes me think you are possibly someone who would cause similar problems to their neighbours, and are trying to convince yourself it is nothing.

In our estate, people behaving like this would be evicted

No need for the eye rolling emoji just because you happen to disagree with someone.

To me, this isn't even anything concerning IMO apart from the deliberate breaking of the lock.

HairyMcHairyFace · 30/04/2023 22:42

Keyan · 30/04/2023 22:34

Yes, the communal hall between the front doors.

FFS, are you being deliberately stupid? It goes

  • door to building (propped open by new residents) leading to:
  • communal areas (in which OPs neighbours smoke weed) leading to:
  • doors of each flat leading to:
  • hall and rest of the flat.

The hall in which OP is trying to dry her clothes is behind her own front door.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 30/04/2023 22:42

I'm a bit shocked at posters saying (if I have it right) that we should accept blatant drug use and anti social behaviour - is it just an attempt to be contrary or do you actually think it's normal and acceptable?

Gingerkittykat · 30/04/2023 22:44

I don't understand why you have not already spoken to your HA, it will help that there will be a log of police callouts to their flat.

In the meantime, I recommend you buy an air purifier for your hall, they really make a difference. My old neighbour was a prolific pot smoker and my house would stink, my car which was parked on the street outside our houses would also stink!

It’s only the one saying it, and it is apparent that they are not the full shilling

It's just the one poster.
