As in husband's brothers wife?

OP posts:
DelurkingAJ · 23/04/2023 23:54

She’s utterly lovely, I’m a big fan. But we live 2 hours away and she’s nearly 15 years younger than me so we don’t have an independent friendship.

Flamingnorahs · 23/04/2023 23:54

NC for 15 years.

WineIsMyMainVice · 23/04/2023 23:55

Horrendous.
just that.

Flamingnorahs · 23/04/2023 23:55

Sorry just re-read post, my huabands sister I am talking about.

scoopoftheday · 23/04/2023 23:57

My husband doesn't have a brother.

He has one sister. She doesn't live near us but there isn't a close relationship between them (or me and her)

However, my brothers' wives are lovely. Three brothers and three (plus a deceased) SIL and they're all beautiful women.

AncientToaster · 23/04/2023 23:59

I have my brothers wife, she is an actual delight, he sadly died 5 years ago. Still in touch with her.

My husbands sister is dire, her own Mother has said how difficult she is.

Restinggoddess · 24/04/2023 00:00

Why do you ask?

Are you including your own siblings partners?

RandomSunday · 24/04/2023 00:00

My DH doesn’t have a sister but my brothers wife is more of a sister to me than my sister. I love her 🥰 She’s everything my sister isn’t

LillyBugg · 24/04/2023 00:00

This is such an open thread?! Surely the experiences are going to be so wide ranging.

I like mine, we get on well and I'm glad she's in my life. My kids adore her.

greenspaces4peace · 24/04/2023 00:04

my husbands brother is older, his wife is lovely chatty and professional, she didn't enter his life until later (after the 1st wife left and children grew up, he raised them btw).
we see each other only every few years for brief periods of time as we live 8+ hours apart.
i would class our relationship as polite. she always dresses nicely and their home is clean and nicely decorated. we exchange christmas cards every year.

LightDrizzle · 24/04/2023 00:08

Never had one but my daughter loves hers, she’s ace. She also loves her MIL, with good reason.

I’m guessing you’re not so lucky. It’s not a SIL thing, it’s a people thing and some twats are also SILS.

Rainbowshit · 24/04/2023 00:09

We get on better than DH gets on with his DB.

Nannyamc · 24/04/2023 00:12

I have an amazing sil . Best friend ever. Our kid's have a great bond and gkds.
I have 10 siblings none of us have much in common

ChiChaNaYubi · 24/04/2023 00:12

All 3 of them are wonderful.

AspiringMermaid · 24/04/2023 00:12

My husband's brother is single now, but his ex partner, I couldn't believe how rude she was. We were out for a family meal she wouldn't look/talk to anyone just stared at her phone scrolling and dramaticly yawning. I really hope the next one is nice my BIL is lovely

Saschka · 24/04/2023 00:13

DH’s sister is difficult and princessy. Though frankly he can be too.

DBro’s girlfriend is a delight, as was his previous one.

Rainbowqueeen · 24/04/2023 00:15

We have never lived in the same place and only see each other every 3-4 years

We get along well. Not close but we haven’t had the opportunity to become close.

EconomyClassRockstar · 24/04/2023 00:20

I have 4 and love them all, only one is my husband's brother's wife though. They've all been in our lives for at least 20 years now so we are all over the early petty stuff of our younger days.

4plusthehound · 24/04/2023 00:33

I have two brothers and two sisters in law.

God they are wonderful. I really like them!

DramaAlpaca · 24/04/2023 00:44

I have 4 SILs.I get on very well with my husband's brother's wife. I also get on very well with two of the others. The fourth one I'm not as close to but she's nice enough.

UsingChangeofName · 24/04/2023 00:47

I haven't go a dh's brother's wife type of SiL.
I have a dh's sister and I have a db's wife type of SiLs.

They are both lovely.
One I am closer to than the other, by dint of the fact we see them far more regularly. The other couple live a long way away, and the local couple are much more similar to us / same interests / etc.

Showdogworkingdog · 24/04/2023 00:52

I have two and I’ve been NC with both of them for 15 years. DH is too. I occasionally wonder if the me of today would be more tolerant of their snide shit than the younger me was but it’s too late now.

GP75 · 24/04/2023 00:52

Dreadful, my SILs I try to avoid whenever possible 🤷

Notanotherhousepost · 24/04/2023 00:54

Love to bits my husbands sister and get on better with her sometimes than him if he throws toys out of toy box

UndercoverCop · 24/04/2023 01:00

DH is an only child, DBs wife is ok, we have very little in common so end up talking about the DC more than anything. I have to avoid any political talk as she loves Jeremy Vine and has been known to frequent GB News, my views dint really fit with this, but that's fine we just don't discuss politics. We don't have the kind of relationship where we go and have coffee just the two of us etc.
