MIL keeps announcing when she's off to the toilet - AIBU to find this disgusting or am I being precious?

PIL are staying for the week and something is up with MIL stomach because of the medication she takes. And we are not being spared the details. She's off to the toilet every five minutes and we're being given a running commentary -

"Oooh, I'll have to go up to the toilet again, things are happening."

"I must say, my bowels are rather loose."

At the dinner table -

"I'll have to leave this meal, I need another trip to the bathroom. My stomach isn't behaving. I'll get there, won't be forever, not much left in me now."

As we're trying to eat FGS!

DP is ignoring it but I genuinely feel like I need to be in another room from her all the time. AIBU??

That's gross

sunshineandshowers40 · 10/04/2023 20:59

That is gross to me, far too much information but I know lots of people that would be absolutely fine with it.

Oneglassisnotenough · 10/04/2023 20:59

Oh that’s grim. Very ill mannered as my Mum would say .

thebaneofmylifeisacat · 10/04/2023 21:00

Gross 🤢

StaringAtTheWater · 10/04/2023 21:01

Meh, I couldn't get worked up about this myself. Perhaps she's a bit embrassed about it and trying to cover it up with light humour?

Theunamedcat · 10/04/2023 21:02

I hope you have air freshener in there

Rumpleforeskinz · 10/04/2023 21:02

I would find this amusing, and would certainly have sympathy for her as she’s obviously finding the awkward side effects of her medication mildly embarrassing. It must be difficult having to go to the toilet so often.

Nothing like the delicate mingling of winter frost and shite.

WimpoleHat · 10/04/2023 21:03

Probably this. But it’s still not very classy; an “I’m so sorry - please excuse me” would do the truck just as well.

dietcokelime · 10/04/2023 21:04

TMI 🤮 why has she come to visit if she's having bowel issues from medication? I'd rather be at home tbh!

NowZeusHasLainWithLeda · 10/04/2023 21:04

Gross yes. Perhaps she'd like to join Mumsnet and join in the equally gross fart threads?

SunshineGeorgie · 10/04/2023 21:04

Nothing I'd get worked up over either tbh

UndercoverCop · 10/04/2023 21:04

Not with that level of detail! If for example you were mid meal/conversation and she said please excuse me or even please excuse me I'm having some tummy trouble due to my medication(the first time so you knew she wasn't being rude) and from then on just politely excused herself that would be ok. I'd feel sorry for her tbh. However no one needs that level of info!!!

X nurse so well used to discussing many things over food my family just used to say no brown talk at the table
Might be worth just going with something like this

lemonyellows · 10/04/2023 21:05

Maybe she feels like she has to say something as she is embarrassed.

MathsNervous · 10/04/2023 21:06

I used to talk shit at my work, it's not a big deal at the dinner table either 🤷 it's best to take it all in good humour.

toastofthetown · 10/04/2023 21:06

I find it utterly grim for anyone over the age of six to announce details of their excretions. Just excusing yourself to the bathroom is fine, we all know what a toilet is for.

Eggseggseverywhere · 10/04/2023 21:06

The entirety of my mil's conversation topic was her toilet habits.. We had to be told if she had /hadn't been. Who the fuck cares?

At the table!! 😂. Classy dame, isn't she?

TheObstinateHeadstrongGirl · 10/04/2023 21:07

You’d hate my MIL, she often says before dinner “Off to the loo, got to make room for dinner” 🤮

Did you really think it was that interesting to your colleagues? Bet you were popular.

TheObstinateHeadstrongGirl · 10/04/2023 21:07

I’m very easily out off food I would hate this OP.

TheObstinateHeadstrongGirl · 10/04/2023 21:08

There’s someone I work with who always says “I’m off for a wee now”.

The worst of it is - we all WFH! She says it at the end of zoom calls. I almost understand if you’re in an office you wanna explain where you’re going but none of us would know either way she needed a wee.

But you see this is why we have a stigma about bowel habits because of this type of repulsive attitude.

It's a natural bodily function 🤷 it's the same if someone trumps at the table. Not a big deal. Better out than in.

No difference to saying you are off for a coffee is it?🤷
