Happy Good Friday everyone.

I need opinion as I've had a few mixed opinions from my real life friends.

I've recently became friends with the new partner of one of my neighbours.

Everything was going well until I told her I had just came home from getting my dc4 immunisations (8 weeks)
She gasped in horror and said she couldn't believe I would inject poisons in my baby and none of her children have had the immunisations as it's "poison" and now she thinks different of me as the "universe" created our children perfect without "man made" chemicals injected into them!

(She is very new age in belief and I follow Christianity)
*
I was quite taken aback. *

I just replied "how can you think the immunisations are poison and full of chemicals and cause blah blah blah but you're quite happy with man made formula milk" she responded saying I'm being ridiculous and walked off.

(Let me just say, I have no issue with formula milk. I just wanted to use it as an example because it is man made"

But my friends have told me I'm out of order for using what she feeds her baby as an example.
Why shouldn't I be able to defend myself when she's personally attacked my decision to give my children immunisations?

I'm not in the wrong am I?

No you are not in the wrong
sigh

Coffeellama · 07/04/2023 13:17

she responded saying I'm being ridiculous and walked off.

This is what you should have done

thegrain · 07/04/2023 13:18

Tbh I think what you said was utterly pointless and only going to inflame the situation. You should have just walked off. There's no reasoning with stupid.

cushioncovers · 07/04/2023 13:19

So her kids have had no vaccines at all? Wow she's crackers, she'd best start looking for an iron lung for her kids then in case they get polio

NeverDropYourMooncup · 07/04/2023 13:19

Don't worry about it. She's batshit.

Whattt44 · 07/04/2023 13:20

Distance yourself from her , she'll criticise everything you do.

Albiboba · 07/04/2023 13:20

I'm not in the wrong am I?

You are also in the wrong.

There’s no need to lash out and imply there’s something wrong with a perfectly healthy and life saving thing (formula) just because she implied there was something wrong with another perfectly healthy life saving thing (vaccines).

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 07/04/2023 13:20

It wasn't the best example. Her argument was ridiculous too though, immunisations have made it so that children who previously died young due to communicable diseases get to live through their childhood. If we went with the principle of going back to nature, no immunisations, no medicines then we'd be inviting and embracing higher infant mortality. The only reason her children are reasonably safe from those illnesses is because the majority of people around them have been immunised so the diseases aren't circulating as readily.

Dragonsandcats · 07/04/2023 13:20

She is ridiculous and and an idiot.

GoldDustt · 07/04/2023 13:22

Shes a tit.

7Worfs · 07/04/2023 13:22

Lol, you essentially called her a fair-weather hippie and she didn’t like it Grin

ImAvingOops · 07/04/2023 13:22

People who can't take criticism shouldn't dish it out! She was quite happy to offend you and judge your parenting choices, so she deserves to get some comeback (even if you don't really believe what you said in retaliation).

LocSeeTan · 07/04/2023 13:24

I think your new friend is as thick as mince

KettrickenSmiled · 07/04/2023 13:24

But my friends have told me I'm out of order for using what she feeds her baby as an example.

Are your friends a bit dim?
Or just fellow (to new 'friend') hypocrites?
Or just enjoy putting you in the wrong, no matter how illogical?

Do you think you would feel more at home with more intelligent / honest / kind friends?

she responded saying I'm being ridiculous and walked off.
Can dish it out but not take it.
In my experience, New Agers are often flaky, full of double standards, preachy, irrational, & quite astoundingly narrow-minded.

Yeah! Because she picks and chooses and it really shocked me what she said about the immunisations.
I've supplemented my baby with formula. But I also don't claim I'm a organic nature loving Mother Earth! BlushConfused

Woman's a half-wit. Nothing you can say to such a person should cause you concern.

I fully agree with this post.

I seem to get along better with my "online" friends through various hobbies then I do with my in person friends who love to prove me wrong with anything I say (or don't!)

TBH it was a fair point, well made.

OP wasn't criticising formula milk, she was criticising hypocrisy.

And having done so in robust terms, New Age Twat won't bother her again.
Job done.

None at all.

My neighbour is quite the opposite but has recently turned into quite a new Ager himself recently.

He has been lecturing me on how the world is flat recently but I just took it as pinch of salt until these comments lol!

Yes, that's true! I think the old me would have but I just felt so attacked.

One day, in the fullness of time, you will experience the joy & freedom of just clamly saying "Oh do fuck off Sandra, your constant negging is so boring & petty" as you walk out of her/their lives & don't look back.

AluckyEllie · 07/04/2023 13:31

You need to nip that friendship in the bud just in case she makes it her mission to ‘enlighten you.’ You can’t argue with crazy (stupid/entitled.)

Luredbyapomegranate · 07/04/2023 13:31

No.

She’s daft as a brush. Just leave her and her crystals be.

Ask him where the edge of it is, & how come he's never travelled to see this extraordinary natural wonder.

SpringHasSprung23 · 07/04/2023 13:32

@tulipb you didn't do anything wrong.

she's incredibly rude with NO social skills. She's not positively changing any ones mind treating like that!!

she had no qualms telling you that you are poisoning your baby... you don't need thus muppet as a friend and honestly your other friends don't sound any better!

it's hard if you're lonely, but it would do you good to ditch people who make you feel bad about yourself
