To ask for the best high protein shake to stop hunger

Hey there! So, I'm currently 1 stone overweight, which may not sound like much, but as a menopausal 5.1" lady, it's a real challenge to shift! I'm doing everything I can to stay on track - including exercise and healthy eating (low carb is my go-to). However, one day a week I have a super busy schedule with back-to-back client sessions and an activity in the evening that doesn't allow food. It's tough to get a decent meal in during that day, and I end up resorting to bad habits. I'm really keen to find a high protein shake that will keep me full throughout the day, and I would love some suggestions for a ready-made option or a powder I can mix up at home. I appreciate any advice you can offer - thanks so much!

Literally not 15 mins to sit and eat a much more satiating chicken and avo salad?

reenon · 02/04/2023 08:55

Huel... Black edition. I have the coffee flavour. I havent tried any others. I don't have it very often, more of an emergency meal but it does the job when I do have it.

CiaraLiara · 02/04/2023 09:07

@Villssev, literally no. Seriously what's the point of your response?? That's what I do EVERY DAY OF THE WEEK, when I have time to prepare the chicken and the salad AND eat it. On Wednesdays I can't. I JUST CAN'T. No time to prepare it and no time to be munching away between clients.

@reenon thank you that's helpful. How many hours do you feel it keeps you satiated for? I can just about put up with the hunger, but not with my stomach making noises!!

Can’t think of a specific brand as i use a powder i make at home but mines is to make sure I’m hitting my protein targets for weight training

but have a look on line like Tesco etc for pre made bottles if it’s only needed once a week sim for low sugar ones . If you think you’d maybe eat 400 calories for lunch ( just an example ) then you should be able to get a couple of protein drinks that would add up to the same calories and have one maybe late morning then mid after noon between meals rather than just having one

Changemaname1 · 02/04/2023 09:12

Look for not sim !

No, not yet (getting there), but I do find patronising replies like yours very irritating. I am 52 years old. I do know that some freshly made salad with chicken is healthier, more nutritious and probably (probably, not convinced) more filling than a protein shake, ffs.

Try Exante, comes in one serving sachets, so very easy for just carrying around with you on the off chance you get hungry and no chances to get anything else.

Albiboba · 02/04/2023 09:21

Just have a snack in the car between work and the activity surely? Protein Shaka are just full of garbage and are pointless if you aren’t doing intense working out.

Purition

Wyldsson began protein powder (vanilla flavour, from Amazon) in skimmed milk with 1 small banana or half a large. A Tbsp of peanut butter in there too if you want.

That keeps me going from around 7:30am until gone midday.

StaySpicy · 02/04/2023 09:27

*vegan!

Lcb123 · 02/04/2023 09:29

protein shakes are full of rubbish, and unnecessary unless you are doing a LOT of exercise.

PacificallyRequested · 02/04/2023 09:31

Why can't you make a salad/sandwich the night before?

silentpool · 02/04/2023 09:32

I use a protein powder, mixed with yoghurt, some oats, a bit of nut butter and half a banana - topped with water. It keeps me going for hours.

megletthesecond · 02/04/2023 09:33

Protein shakes are a con. Take a cheese or avocado sandwich, banana and nuts. Your health needs to come first for 10 mins.

RuffledKestrel · 02/04/2023 09:33

Another vote for huel, black edition especially. it's a meal replacement rather than a protein shake so you won't be missing out on nutrition.

I cannot drink the shake fast so I tend to drink 500-600ml of it over about 40min. Keeps me full for a good 4 or 5hrs easy.

Huel also do bars, but they don't keep ma as full feeling for long and they do have a bit of a weird texture.

Startuplife · 02/04/2023 09:34

I prefer yFood over Huel but it’s 500 calories instead of 400.

And yet you’ve got to 52 and don’t know how to take a snack when you’re going to be late for a meal?
Pack a banana and some nuts. Ten times more healthy than artificial nutrients are in liquid form.

TrianglePlayer · 02/04/2023 09:38

The Huel vanilla is really tasty. I haven’t tried the black edition huel mentioned above. I’d give Huel a go and see how it works for you.

CherryCokeFanatic · 02/04/2023 09:38

Could you try intermittent fasting and that day would be one of your fast periods?

Or make a MN massive salad the evening before to wolf down in a spare 5 minutes.

Cosyblankets · 02/04/2023 09:40

Are you self employed? If not you need to speak to your employer if they're not allowing you time to eat.
Banana, nuts, skyr yoghurt, all better than a protein shake.
Why can't you make something the night before. Eating is eating it all takes the same amount of time to eat.

RoyGBivisacolorfulman · 02/04/2023 09:42

Sometimes you just fancy a change to salad.
Try Exante or The new you.

Guardiansofthegalaxi · 02/04/2023 09:42

OP has specifically asked for a protein shake, not sure why people are so against her having them. I use the Protein Works complete 360 - like Huel, it’s more nutritionally complete than a straight protein shake. But cheaper than Huel I believe. Because it’s a drink, it’s easy to take with me. I don’t drink it all in one go. Maybe half mid, morning and the rest just coming up to lunch if I’m still hungry. I completely get not having the time to prepare or eat.
