To ask for the best high protein shake to stop hunger

Hey there! So, I'm currently 1 stone overweight, which may not sound like much, but as a menopausal 5.1" lady, it's a real challenge to shift! I'm doing everything I can to stay on track - including exercise and healthy eating (low carb is my go-to). However, one day a week I have a super busy schedule with back-to-back client sessions and an activity in the evening that doesn't allow food. It's tough to get a decent meal in during that day, and I end up resorting to bad habits. I'm really keen to find a high protein shake that will keep me full throughout the day, and I would love some suggestions for a ready-made option or a powder I can mix up at home. I appreciate any advice you can offer - thanks so much!

Why can't you make a salad/sandwich the night before?

Because you can't eat a salad or a sandwich while you're driving or rushing between clients!

OP asked for advice on protein shakes, not what other people felt she should be eating instead 🙈

PSNonsense · 02/04/2023 09:43

FFS the OP for one day a week just wants a bloody protein shake recipe instead of a salad. So many annoying responses...

CiaraLiara · 02/04/2023 09:49

Okay I have been looking into all suggestions and I feel I have narrowed it down to Huel Black Edition and Myprotein's Meal Replacement Blend.
I might try both and see how they compare flavour-wise.

I have a similar issue to you and I find protein yogurts more practical - appreciate it depends if you've got chance to sit with a spoon (obviously not when driving!) As you probably know protein shakes don't 'sit' well so if you're likely to be getting interrupted it's worth keeping a couple to hand. Lidl and Aldi protein puddings are great.

I have a portable smoothie blender, small enough to into your bag etc. I do Banana smoothies with skimmed milk, almond butter, chia seeds and have recently brought peanut butter powder to bulk out the protein in it. Obviously can do different smoothies but takes just a couple of mins and then you can drink straight from the blender as it doubles up as a flask too.

My protein meal replacement.

Dwrcegin · 02/04/2023 09:55

Should add, the salted caramel is the best one but mix with milk not water.

Scrumbleton · 02/04/2023 09:55

I make a hugely filling blended shake with skimmed milk, a banana and passion fruit Solera (98 cals). It's delicious and super filling, not too sweet.

CiaraLiara · 02/04/2023 09:58

I could definitely consider a portable smoothie blender and gradually move on to more natural shakes. I also bought peanut butter powder recently and I'm not sure how to use it. I guess I could add it to plain vanilla powder?

UFIT ones for on the go - I make a breakfast one in my nutribullet with 20g oats, 5g peanut butter, 150ml oat milk, and 30g phd protein powder.

hidethenips · 02/04/2023 09:59

forgot the most important bit - and a banana!

Vegetus · 02/04/2023 10:00

A protein shake won't keep you full really but it's incredibly easy to buy a bottle of huel it's sold pretty everywhere these days.

CiaraLiara · 02/04/2023 10:00

@Scrumbleton that sounds so nice, not sure about the Solero though as it might make me crave sugar even more. I have a massive sweet tooth.

Just have a snack in the car between work and the activity surely? Protein Shaka are just full of garbage and are pointless if you aren’t doing intense working out.

Some people aren’t in a car, and you know what MN thinks of people who eat on the bus, tube or train Grin

whateveryousay · 02/04/2023 10:06

I have the black huel, and don’t find it very filling. Also makes me want to wee loads! I use Mindful Chef smoothie mixes, make with almond milk, and then add a hefty spoon of unflavoured pea protein powder. Keeps me full for around 3-4 hours.

elastamum · 02/04/2023 10:09

I would eat porridge in the morning if you have the time then Huel. I eat a banana and porridge first thing before I muck out a load of horses and it keeps me going for a good few hours.

rookiemere · 02/04/2023 10:12

Buy some Aldi chocolate protein mousses. 20g protein and 157 calories. Maybe have a vitamin tablet as well, or I find Bounce protein balls very filling.

lljkk · 02/04/2023 10:18

What about the shakes sold as part of 6 pack revolution?

CiaraLiara · 02/04/2023 10:21

Honestly porridge is much too carby for me and makes me hungrier

Can't believe this thread. I drink quite a lot of protein shakes. My brain works much better with a higher protein diet but I don't love meat and can't be bothered fucking around making scrambled eggs etc for breakfast.

The most normal tasting one is refrigerated, made by Arla, just high protein lower sugar chocolate milk. (Maybe other flavours exist but I only by this one.) I order mine on Amazon Fresh but most supermarkets have them. It's not super low sugar, but more protein than sugar which is all I'm looking for.

The my protein meal replacement is not filling

CiaraLiara · 02/04/2023 10:53

What about Bulk? It doesn't seem to have been mentioned here.

OP posts:
CiaraLiara · 02/04/2023 10:54

It's just for once a week so I truly don't care about the nutrition. The aim here is for my stomach not to make hunger noises!

What about meal replacement bars? Could be an option

LadyLump · 02/04/2023 11:00

If you are wanting low carb, my protein meal replacement has 17g of carb and 14g of sugar per portion whereas their whey protein has 1.9g of carb and 1.4G of sugar. It’s marketed as a low calorie option but the whey protein is a better option
