It’s just quite odd…all this with Philip Schofield, then Alison Hammond was brought in, talk of blackmail in the news and she’s not on this week anymore…what on earth goes on over there 🤷🏻‍♀️

Why do regionally born presenters slated so often? Like Eamonn, Christine, Lorraine? Just waiting for Gloria Hunniford to get chucked in there too just for good measure!

I assure you nothing to do with regional accent, I come from Scottish family with broad accents and DH is Irish.

She just comes across as false.

I can't stand Eamonn Holmes but my mother came from just down the road from him and had the same accent. I loved her to bits so I don't think my issue is the accent.

Gloria Hunniford was my granddads pinup when she was a young presenter on a news programme in Ulster, can't remember what it was so I can't dislike her, granddad would haunt me.

Even though I’m not a fan of HW, she seems much lighter when not presenting with PS, less stressed looking

Completly agree with this. She has been so different this week. I have never liked her with PS, but without him, she seems liberated and I actually like her.

I met Ruth at an event where I was a nobody and she was genuinely warm and sweet and friendly. And I don't get the negative stuff around the Alison Hammond clip - she is just exhausted and scared surely? She takes it very well when she discovers she's been set up

Yes, I agree. AH was fine on Saturday Night Takeaway. She actually said that she wanted to leave as she was so scared, but thought that she should stay because her boss was there.

If she had been a diva, she would have just left there and then.

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 30/03/2023 12:06

Woodywasatwat · 30/03/2023 09:12

I expect she’s massively on something to take the edge off.

Well, a bit more that usual. Allegedly.

Wink wink.

(It’s okay mumsnet, you can delete this 🤣)

It’s a well known secret that she’s on something (recreational) - I mean god knows how she copes if she’s presumably on the cusp of perimenopause - if she has drink and drugs problems how could she cope with that and early starts?

She is, heard first hand, very bitchy and not at all nice to work with.

Agreed with AH, no diva behaviour there, just scared!

So Holly said at the end there ‘ I will be back in a couple of weeks’ so it obviously is the Easter holidays now (or they’re pretending it is)

Butidontwanttogotoarobbieconcert · 30/03/2023 12:54

@DarlingG Surely would be far too weird if he’s back on Monday without her?

CheerstoUs · 30/03/2023 13:18

They were always going to be off for the next two weeks. Nothing odd there. They're always off during school holidays.

@IMustDoMoreExercise I suppose with Joel etc, it just seemed a bit odd. He seems like a nice guy though

If you thought yesterday was awkward, did you seen today's when they were talking about pelvic floor exercises?

No pretence. They are always off for the school holidays.

I really think AH's ex was blackmailing her 😭

convenient timing for school holidays-they'll brush the stuff wsith ps brother under th carpet and he'll be back in two weeks like nothings happened

alfagirl73 · 30/03/2023 14:31

I don't normally comment on stuff like this, but I do think PS will struggle to come back from this one and I would think there are a lot of emergency-damage-control type conversations going on right now.

Thing is, I actually liked PS as a presenter for many years, but less so as time has gone on. I've seen him on a couple of things where he wasn't doing his usual "polished benign daytime tv presenter" thing and was more "himself" I suppose - and I couldn't help but get an "off" vibe from him - albeit I accept that I do not know him and therefore cannot speak personally about him. I just got a bad vibe. As for TM - he does give off an "I'm untouchable" attitude - and it is not pleasant.

I'm aware of all the rumours/stories about PS himself, but if we push those aside at the moment, the simple FACT that no one can get away from right now is that PS knew what his brother was doing and he did nothing about it. Yes it's his brother, but if ANYONE confessed that to me they'd be told in no uncertain terms that they had a simple choice - either turn themselves into the police immediately or I'd be going to the police myself - either way - it would be reported. That he knew and remained silent is unacceptable.

Separately, I do understand (although I'm sure other people will know much more), that PS has a LOT of power at ITV - far beyond just presenting TM - how much that filters down to others - producers, executives, other presenters, shows etc... I don't know, but I get the feeling that "firing" him from TM is probably not straight forward. I feel like there is an ITV "inner sanctum" - with PS highly influential - or even in control of it. Given how other celebrities have been fired/dropped for much lesser issues, it is remarkable the extent ITV goes to in order to protect PS and remain silent about things.

I'm no fan of Eamon or Ruth, HW or any of the others tbh - but it's hard to ignore that in recent years increasingly more people seem to have distanced themselves from TM/PS and there has of course been tension with other presenters who have looked desperate to speak up but have obviously been silenced.

I actually think ITV generally needs a big overhaul - new talent. TM needs to either go or be completely refreshed - new presenters and a proper shake up. Either fresh new talent or someone like Rob Rinder - he's turned out to be a brilliant presenter and interviewer and he is extremely intelligent. Other shows also need to be scrapped and some new ideas/talent brought in.

In the meantime, I could very well be wrong, but something about this makes me feel like this is going to blow up into something much bigger. If it doesn't and PS returns after the Easter holidays with nothing else being said, then that convinces me that he has some power-hold over people at ITV because if this was almost any other celebrity, they'd be finished.

PenelopeTitsDrop3121 · 30/03/2023 14:37

I wonder if HW will be wishing PS a happy birthday on insta on 1st April. Bet there will be a few comments on there...

He won’t be fired!

He’ll either:-

  • come back and say nothing - eg it was a little holiday time.

  • he’ll either come back with hubris (I’d that right phrasing) and admit that he shouldn’t gave supported his brother but, family ties, stressful situation.

  • or, and I think most likely, there’ll be some sort of slot re “if one of your family members does anything wrong, pedophilia etc then by all means support them but also realise it’s wrong etc” - of course TM execs will have to have had harsh words with Phil over this one and he’ll be slapped over the wrist. But he’ll get off best with this option.

Butidontwanttogotoarobbieconcert · 30/03/2023 14:59

How on earth can he come back from this though 🤷🏻‍♀️Imagine how he must be feeling

Tuned in today when Holly was doing the cooking segment with Joel. Professional but not playful I thought. Serious head on.

Well Holly knows that without Phil there to prop her up she has to you know, do some work?!

I think if Phil doesn’t come back and doesn’t gel with another presenter, then we might see Holly looking for another job. If she’s the bitch people say she is then she’ll have to have a really good relationship with a new presenter who either will or won’t carry her like Phil did.

Inkanta · 30/03/2023 15:26

I used to think Phil Schofield was the one dependent on Holly as a co presenter and support, but maybe it's the other way round - that he's a prop for her.

BertaHoon · 30/03/2023 15:51

No celebs, who you thought would come out, did come out in his support at the time.

Like I said my ex colleague heard all the gossip as she knew people who worked with him or socialised with him, PR/media world in London.

A few women crawled out of the woodwork to defend him but you’d think more celebrity women would support him. Anyone who’s who’s anyone knows Abi Titmuss thought he was her meal ticket at the time, so therefore she would lie and stick by him, and she’s since gone on to become a US actress so his support has helped her.

Omg, just googling and a sex tape of John, Abi and another woman is what ruined both their careers, why do that if you know it can be leaked (the tape)?

Yes it was the threesome video that finished him off, along with him being filmed taking cocaine.

I actually watched the video at the time 🤣 omg 😐

He and any other media star or stars in the media who do what he did should know that with most companies that us plebs work in, if we’re found or caught by drugs testing with drugs during work time or even if there are traces in your system and you’re tested then it’s a sackable offence.

Leslie and countless other celebs appear to think they’re above the law and sadly I think both he and Abi deserve their punishment, she was sacked or not offered a slot on This Morning after this.

At least when I worked at that time, if any of us did take drugs at the weekend (a lot of Londoners were doing this and clubbing) if there was any drugs test rumours, we’d all give each other the heads up so we’d be clean. And after 2-3 years we’d stopped clubbing and drugs anyway.

Was the video any good?!

PomRuns · 30/03/2023 16:15

I don’t understand what power he has, a 2nd rate at best presenter with little public support

I worked in a shop where the owner was friends with Gloria Hunniford (and he often had a slot on This Morning). She came in to collect something, looked at me like I was a piece of shit for touching her things, and snatched them off me.
My husband encounter her many years later while he was working on a decorating job on the South Bank. He said she was clearly drunk, it was pretty early in the day, and she started mouthing off about foreigners stealing all the jobs over here, and how nice it was to see British people working for a change. Dear reader, my husband is not British. He told her to go and get herself another bottle of wine.

JemimaTab · 30/03/2023 17:22

I rarely watch it these days, but it does seem to be a self-indulgent cliquey mess. Don’t most of them have the same agents? And all the partying/holidaying together. It’s like some exclusive club.
IMO it could do with a complete overhaul, get a completely new presenting team in.
The whole PS “coming out” episode was massively overdone. PS sitting there while Holly read out his statement (why couldn’t he read out his own words?) and everyone fawning over him like he was some kind of groundbreaking gay rights pioneer (which he is not). Ugh.
Then there was Holly’s 40th, which for some reason they devoted a whole show to. Incredibly self-indulgent.
And a similar thing for Alison when it was some kind of work anniversary (20 years?) - again, why?
I do think PS is past it. He comes across as humourless and out of touch. And yes there does seem to be some kind of dirt persistently hovering around in the background (although whether that will actually come to anything, who knows).
AH is OK in small doses IMO, but she’s lightweight. I find Holly very insipid. Dermot looks like he can’t be arsed half the time. Gino is awful (and I believe there is more to come on him, reading between the lines of the recent reports about staff being “uncomfortable” around him). I can’t bear Josie, going back to BB days. I do like Rylan, and Ruth is OK.
All IMO, obvs.
