It’s just quite odd…all this with Philip Schofield, then Alison Hammond was brought in, talk of blackmail in the news and she’s not on this week anymore…what on earth goes on over there 🤷🏻‍♀️

I thought Fern was good. And imo stitched up. Yes she had a gastric band, but you still have to radically change your life and work really hard for it to work. She didn't owe that medical information to anyone. Never understood why her husband continued to do the cooking slots after she was ousted - smacks of having no loyalty!

I like Ruth - she seems genuine.

The thing with John Leslie that struck me, is that I don't remember hearing women who'd dated him, such a CZJ coming out to defend him. I don't remember her saying anything negative either, but lack of public defence does say something to people, rightly or wrongly.

Apparently Ruth is vile off camera and a trans activist according to KJK, I am paraphrasing.

DarlingG · 29/03/2023 15:07

You do wonder why Holly wouldn’t just walk away now, she definitely doesn’t need the money. If this is the end for Phil surely she won’t stay on her own?

They will no doubt just throw him back on again and hope no one says anything. The fact he had clearly been cheating on his wife to be able to know he was gay yet no one ever asked that question because it was all poor Phillip, so brave. I just watched it thinking how his wife must be in bits and it must just hurt even more to see everyone giving him the sympathy. They seem to still be close though and does he not still wear his ring and consider himself married? It’s a very bizarre set up

ImAvingOops · 29/03/2023 15:13

@ItIsFiat re Ruth, I hope not. That would be a shame

BarryStyles · 29/03/2023 15:14

@DinosaurMug ooh that’s interesting and good to know (can’t decide if it makes him more or less or a ginormous twat though 🤣)

VWHoliday · 29/03/2023 15:15

DinosaurMug · 29/03/2023 15:02

Having met his wife I very much doubt that is true. She's quite a formidable woman and I don't think she'd put up with that kind of crap. It's all an act.

😂. Not everything is to be taken seriously. Love him or hate him he was joking.

Woodywasatwat · 29/03/2023 15:24

BarryStyles · 29/03/2023 14:46

I remember Gino being on Jonathan Ross’s chatshow years ago and saying that at home no-one including his wife is allowed to stand up or leave the table before he does. Because he is the man of the house or some such crap.
So yes he is a ginormous twat.

What a prick. And one of his best mates is Peter Andre, arsehole flock together.

(I am over invested in my utter hatred of Gino, I know. I just can’t stand the man).

MinorMeltdown · 29/03/2023 15:28

PS isn't brave. Everyone knows what he did and unfortunately there will be an individual (one that we know of) and their family still suffering the consequences of both what happened and being forced into the shadows.

What I'm wondering is when / what news outlet or paper will just think F - the injunction, the consequences.. we are going to run the story anyway.

Surely at some point they may as well as a version of what happened is all over various forums and Twitter etc.

And then linking back to the point of the thread; that has to be the end for This Morning - you can't come back from a scandal like this.
It happened before with the herald (I think it was) and ryan giggs. Surely all the papers are weighing up their options.

ChangedmynameagainforChristmas · 29/03/2023 15:30

This is simply not true @ItIsFiat about Ruth. I do not know where you got your 'info' from because you are so far wide of the mark here. What a nasty comment to make about someone you clearly do not know !

Porkandbeans1 · 29/03/2023 15:30

I haven't watched it for years. PS is a slippery bastard. Considering slebs seem to get cancelled and sacked for almost anything now I can't see how he has kept his job. Seems he has a lot in common with his brother after recent allegations.

I don't know...this is poor, poor PS we are talking about. It's all been so difficult for him, blah blah, blah. Expect he will play the victim card again and be back unless ITV force him out this time.

I miss Alison already she was fantastic

Seriously?

Lifeomars · 29/03/2023 16:05

Gino has a range of Italian ready meals, pasta sauces and pizza bases in Asda.(don't know if they are available in other supermarkets). They are pricey for what they are. Bought a ready meal when it was in the yellow stickered bit, it really was vile. If I was a well known chef I would be ashamed to have my name on it.

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 29/03/2023 16:27

I think what we can take from this thread is:-

  • various presenters are good/rubbish - delete as appropriate.

  • it’s a good vehicle for fairly mediocre presenting and for putting your name to various crap brands - hello Gino!m

  • it’s been around for years but what would ITV replace it with, BBC and C4 don’t have a similar magazine format but the type of viewer who likes This Morning will either watch BBC romance scam/criminal investigation programmes or C4 comedy. There’s no Jeremy Kyle/Kilroy etc.

everyone knows it’s rubbish and full of scandal but the viewers seem to love it - the faux hangovers after awards shows, it’s a bit like the naughty kid in your class. You feel This Morning viewers are stupid enough to forgive their presenters anything, even paeodophilia.

Re Holly - she’s just not old enough yet to retire and if she got divorced she’d be taken to the cleaners. She knows that so stays married and working. There are tons of wives I know like this, they used to come into the solicitors office where I worked in an affluent part of London, to enquire about divorces and how much they’d get, then you’d never see them again!

lollipoprainbow · 29/03/2023 16:31

The ghastly Martin frizzell has a lot to answer for. Ruth and Eamon were fantastic on it also Ruth and rylan were a great pairing. Please also get rid of the seriously annoying clodagh McKenna.

SerafinasGoose · 29/03/2023 16:32

Will be honest, I've never seen it, but that doesn't mean anything I've read here (only the early stages of this thread) in any way surprises me.

There's a sordid, deeply worrying undertow to a whole lot associated with what used to be terrestrial TV. Sadly, if we think that's now been nixed because a bit of sunlight has been shed on Jimmy Savile et al, I think we are being naive.

Face it, though, a lot of old-school TV presenters are naff (and didn't they love themselves, too?) It's an art and a breed that is rapidly dying out. It's also inevitable that the BBC licensing fee will be axed in the fairly near future. People's viewing habits are irrevocably changing and I'd not be surprised if streaming eventually kills off the magazine/chat show format entirely, or at least relegates it to radio.

At that point the issue with egotistical (or darker) presenters will take care of itself. They've had their day and are already on borrowed time, IMO.

Onefootinthegroove · 29/03/2023 16:34

Apropos of nothing but Judy Finnegan was a proper journalist, I remember fondly an interview with a woman who wanted to convince people that they didnt need to eat, they could feed on cosmic goodness or some such shite. She was American and obviously thought that this was a cosy daytime show and Judy annihilated her in a wonderfully logical and professional way.

FriendsDrinkBook · 29/03/2023 16:39

I really hope he's gone permanently. I'd like him off of doi too , I just can't watch it knowing he's presenting.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 29/03/2023 16:46

Oh I remember that! She was a "Breatharian" who claimed to subsist entirely on "prana" (light).

Onefootinthegroove · 29/03/2023 16:53

@TheYearOfSmallThings Yes, that's the one , I couldn't remember the details , off to see if it's on YouTube......

So agree with all of this. I think terrestrial TV is so dumbed down now, I barely watch it ... and as for this 'magazine' programme This Morning... FFS ITV get a grip, it's pathetic!
Along with Loose Women!

Yes they are on borrowed time. I'm sick of seeing the same old faces. There's so much fresh young talent out there, why aren't they looking at them? It's all these handcuff deals and let's give a Corrie actress whose left Corrie, a crime drama and oh dear, we signed up whoever for 10 years.

EleanorRavenclaw · 29/03/2023 17:14

@Onefootinthegroove i totally agree. I always thought Judy was very underrated as a broadcaster. Very astute and intelligent. I wish ITV would really wake up the daytime TV crowd with new faces and some people with more of a journalism background rather than entertainment.

Butidontwanttogotoarobbieconcert · 29/03/2023 18:01

@ItIsFiat That’s utter bull, I’ve literally never heard a bad word against Ruth. I really enjoyed watching her and Eamon on it, I liked Richard & Judy too, but I was a kid back then. Vernon Kay is good and I like Dermot too, Josie and Alison seem like nice people but I don’t think they can present well 😬
Holly I think is actually a good presenter but I’m just really not a fan of her.
In conclusion…bring Ruth and Eamon back, as nearly all people have said, but this Frizell guy continues to keep Philip Schofield no matter what. P.S has some power there, but what, who knows 🤷🏻‍♀️It’s very odd indeed.

I can't stand Eamonn. He is very bigoted. And you can tell, when he is on air, he is really biting his tongue.

Besides which he is on GB News when he's got over his bad health.

I see presenting on a mainstream tv program as a very well paid privilege that many talented people would love the chance to do and therefore the people that have “made it” should really be whiter than white ie no drink driving, no drugs, no grooming of minors etc etc. So that would get rid of a lot of the current crop and give new blood a chance and I, personally, might end up actually watching some programs. Though I have to say, I get the rage with a lot of tv presenters these days (love Sandi Toksvig though)

Yes! The thing I hate about TV is that it is wall to wall Holly W, Phil S and Claudia Wrinklebum. I would love to see some new faces. They must all earn a bomb. Why not spread the goodies around?

I do like Alison Hammond, though. I hope she is OK.
