To say you can still look okay at 13 stone?

I'm 13 stone 7... To my horror! I knew I'd put on a lot rapidly in a short space of time. I'm aware this actually makes me obese. And I need to lose weight for my health

I don't think I look huge though. Definitely not. Might say I'm a bit chubby at a push. Face doesn't look too fat

AIBU to say you can actually be obese and not realise because you don't look 'fat'?

I'm 5'3 so not tall

I’m 5ft7 maybe 5ft8. At 11 stone people start asking if I’m ok, no arse, no boobs, gaunt. At 12 stone I’m starting to feel a bit uncomfy. At 13 stone I’m a 14-16 so not huge but harder to dress more lumps and bumps. I had a dexa scan which showed I have high muscle and medium/high fat which explains why I’m not big at 11st- 7-8 stone of it is non fat so I’m clearly just a big girl 😂
I think the weight obsession on mums net is a bit unhealthy if you feel good then good for you nobody can say who looks good except you and maybe your partner if you want that!

Well this has made me feel rubbish.

I genuinely think I've got some reverse body image thing going on as when I see photos of myself I look really big and don't recognise myself but when I see myself in mirrors I think I look ok. What's that's all about.

For context I'm 5 foot tall and 14.6 stone which gives me a BMI of just below 40 I think. I take an 18-20 in clothes. But I still think I look pretty good. I dress well, have nice hair, make an effort with makeup etc. But now I'm thinking maybe I don't look that good!

Of course you can look good, I'm sure you do! There's much more to it than your weight. I am 5'11 and size 12 with a decent figure but bloody hell my face could scare a crow; I have to make a lot of effort to look decent hah. Someone I work with is quite a bit overweight but absolutely genuinely stunning.

You look nice and not fat at all. Please take this comment and relax! I’m a person who has weight on the brain more than is healthy and wouldn’t compliment you unless I meant it

MrsPinkCock · 25/03/2023 20:45

I would be surprised if you didn’t look big if I’m being honest, unless you’re carrying a shitload of muscle? My friend who plays rugby weighs a lot but she’s muscular as hell!

I looked a porker at 13st7 and I’m 5’8”, but it was all fat in my case!

EffortlessDesmond · 25/03/2023 20:48

I haven't read the thread, because I don't read weight and fat threads. Only you know who you are and where you want to be. You decide.

GizzardChops · 25/03/2023 20:50

I think it depends so much on build, how you put weight on etc.

I'm just shy of 5ft 7" - I carry weight quite evenly spread. Over the years I've ranged form 9st (when I was much younger than I am now!) to 13 stone at my heaviest. I was obviously bigger when I was 13st but I was still in size 12-14 bottoms and 10-12 in tops. I didn't look particularly "fat" if that makes sense?

These days I don't give a shit. I'm more concerned with enjoying life!

ladyvimes · 25/03/2023 20:51

5ft7” and 13 stone. Heaviest I’ve ever been! I’m a 12-14 but I’ve always been heavier than I look. I definitely feel chubby and am probably at my best at about 11st.

It’s amazing how different people carry weight though. At 9.5stone I was a size 6-8, barely ate and was not healthy!

sayitaintsobow · 25/03/2023 20:55

Can anyone answer this about BMI?

I know I'm overweight and need to lose it for my health long term, I know it to be true (factually obese actually), but NHS website says the bottom end of healthy for me would be 7 stone 11!

When I was just under 8 stone, I was anorexic. Very low body fat percentage and hardly ate 800 calories a day, usually a lot less. Horrific skin and brittle hair and nails. How is that healthy?

BMI says it is which is what I don't like with BMI

I go between 12.5 and 13.5, and always look pretty similar.
5 ft7. Size 16.
I don't look slim, but wouldn't describe myself as fat. I carry weight quiet easily. Would look lots better if I lost a stone, but can't be bothered.

I was 23 stone fir most of my adult life avd got down to 13. Felt and looked phenomenal. Curves, boobs and shapely legs. Shame I now 4 abdca half stone heavier.im an emotional.eater: one break up,death of parent and suicide of new partner have contributed to this. Got to get my shit together. I agree re the confidence comment. Not nice undertones.

So sorry you have been through all this. Xx

TellHimDirectlyInDetail · 25/03/2023 20:56

I think you have a great body.

Isnt abese only one more than overweight? I feel like it should be:

Underweight
Ideal
Overweight.
Very overweight
Then obsese
....but it isn't

sayitaintsobow · 25/03/2023 20:57

I stand corrected, not 7st 11 but 7st 6! As previously said, at a similar weight before I was clinically unwell so why does the BMU calculator tell me 7st 6 is fine for my height? Sad it really wasn't

It says the same for me but you need to use your personal judgement as well to see that is too thin. For my friend who is smaller framed than me but the same height, that would be fine.

Grapewrath · 25/03/2023 20:58

I’m just over 8st at 5ft 4 and at 11st was chunky. I think I look average now, not skinny or fat. 11st is not fat, I just didn’t carry it well.
You might look a million times better. It’s all subjective and body shape dependant

This is what I get putting in 5'6" & 11.5st & the pic is what I looked like last time I was at that weight... but any less than that & I look gaunt & unhealthy. There's no way on earth I could ever be 8st3lb - I'd be a bag of bones!

I doubted posting at all on this thread because on a cursory read, which is all I have done, all the posts seem to want to excuse being overweight. If you want a license to eat you heads off, then fine, go ahead and fill your boots.

I won't be joining you.

Exactly the same here.

At just over 8st I had an eating disorder. Took 800 cals/day and a lot of exercise.

yet there’s posters on here at my height saying they’d look flabby at 8st.

although at 8st I had a lot of people telling me I looked great and had the “ideal” body. Nobody really noticed my disordered eating or the fact I’d lost stones in a couple of months.

I think the whole “lost sight of normal” thing works both ways.

BeretRaspberry · 25/03/2023 19:02

I was a size 12/14 at 13 stone and 5’6”.

I'm 5'7" and when I was 13 stone I was a size 16, which I still wear at 12 stone. I might be able to wear some size 14 things, but 12 - not a chance. I did manage to wear size 14 at 11 stone, but once again, not 12.

Tessabelle74 · 25/03/2023 21:04

I'm 5ft 6 and 11st and I'm a 14. I don't think you can actually be a 14 if you're only 5ft 3. I suspect you're wearing leggings or similar that have stretched with you. Your BMI is 33.4 so it's also extremely unhealthy for you to be so big unless you're very muscular of course.

CreepingCrone · 25/03/2023 21:05

I think we are the wrong people to ask. I'm 5' 6. I've been 13st 7lbs and felt like a whale, to the point where I refused to be in photos. Felt dreadful and really low. I'm now 13st 3lbs after losing 3st 3lbs and feel amazing. Fit sz 14 jeans, feel so much better. Love the way I look. I definitely feel much better and more confidence than when I starved myself to 9st!!! (And I still had the family double chin in photos then). It's all relative. I honestly dont think anything anyone else tells you will change the way you feel. That comes from you 🖤

pagopago · 25/03/2023 21:06

I am 5.8 and was still slim and gorgeous at 13 stone. I look back at old photos sometimes and would love to be that weight again.

EffortlessDesmond · 25/03/2023 21:07

I am %'5" and 62kg, at 67 years old. It feels about right.

EffortlessDesmond · 25/03/2023 21:08

5 feet and five inches for clarification.

RatesWillRise · 25/03/2023 21:08

It’s how you hold your weight. Pear shaped and muscly types will look better than apples like me.

I have a BMI that only reached 19 after the menopause. Naturally thin like my whole family. But have skinny limbs and bigger boobs and belly.

All the women here genuinely look much better than I do. You all look fabulous!

I have good self-esteem and dress well. Looks aren’t that important to me. But I know I don’t look as good as the ‘overweight’ women pictured here.

magicthree · 25/03/2023 21:09

I've just seen your photo OP - you look lovely, and slimmer than I do, even though you are shorter and heavier! (grumbles at the unfairness of life.....)
