To say you can still look okay at 13 stone?

I'm 13 stone 7... To my horror! I knew I'd put on a lot rapidly in a short space of time. I'm aware this actually makes me obese. And I need to lose weight for my health

I don't think I look huge though. Definitely not. Might say I'm a bit chubby at a push. Face doesn't look too fat

AIBU to say you can actually be obese and not realise because you don't look 'fat'?

I'm 5'3 so not tall

I'm 5'7. Have a guess what size/how much I weigh?

14 stone, size 16?

TheFormidableMrsC · 25/03/2023 20:27

I'm a size 12 around that weight and I'm 5ft 5. I lift weights though so I'm quite muscular.

MK85 · 25/03/2023 20:27

At my heaviest 2 years ago I was 14st 3 then I got down to 13st 3 and stayed there for around a year. This month I set myself a goal of getting to 12st . In order to access ivf I need to be 12.3. I'm currently 12st 13

ThePredictableScript · 25/03/2023 20:28

When I was 12.2 at 5.3 I looked very very chubby but that is because it goes everywhere! I lose all my waist, my face and shoulders puff out, but I could totally see how if someone with different genetics could look better than I did, if it went to their tits and arse for example. I'm currently 9.6 and still a BIT chubby

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 25/03/2023 20:28

This thread is making me really worry about my thighs. Even when I've lost all my weight they're still going to be wobbly

OldFan · 25/03/2023 20:28

I have to keep a bit of weight (not overweight but a bit more than when I was younger) on as I get older, or I look rougher and older in the face.

@sayitaintsobow If you're interested there are scales in most Boot's which for £1 will give you a printout of height, weight and approx body fat percentage.

I’m 5 foot 4 and nine stone and I’m definitely looking “curvy” which is me being optimistic about the fact that I’m overweight.

@user18 What a PP said. That's not overweight at all. I'm about that height and want to lose a bit to get back down to 9 and a half, it's easy for me to maintain and I get the most compliments/admiration then on my bum. Grin And don't look as decrepid as I do now when I'm 8 stone something.

EsmeSusanOgg · 25/03/2023 20:29

I'm 5'3 and currently weigh 13 stone 5. But I'm preggo and have a bump and huge boobs. So not sure that's a representative idea! At 11-11.5 stone I am officially overweight but wear a size 12 and people are surprised I weight that much. Despite having a mum-tum. I was this weight non-pregnany after I broke my ankle... And found that I did look fat... But not as fat as the scale said I was. Deffo getting a bit chubbier in the face, but no extra chin. I tend to pile my weight all in the middle... Which is less than ideal!

But, pre-pamdemic (and will be taken up again post kiddo no.2) I did weight/ power lifting - so had quite a bit of muscle mass. I also have ridiculously high bone density (closer to someone in their teens not approaching 40).

Ideally I'd be back at the top end of normal BMI for my height which is 9.5 stoneish. Size 8 bottoms (though post kids my hips are wider) and size 10 top. But... That's going to take a good 12-18 months postpartum to achieve.

Cliffordthebigreddog · 25/03/2023 20:30

I’m 5’ 4 and 9st 12 - I feel on the big side now (for me) and it doesn’t matter how I’d look at 13 stone but I personally would feel revolting and definitely know deep down that I was obese

OldFan · 25/03/2023 20:30

Does anyone notice, I think they're right that the size 0/skinny mentality might be sadly coming back as a trend?

It was nice that for a couple of years we didn't have to all worry about being as skinny as possible.

smalbert · 25/03/2023 20:31

ThereItIs1 · 25/03/2023 19:08

Of course you can!! Firstly, weight is such a flawed way of measuring 'beauty'. It literally tells you your gravitational relationship to the ground. End of. It doesn't take into account your muscle mass, how/ where your weight is carried and a multitude of other things. Also, for those saying they 'looked huge' at that size as if that eliminates the possibility of beauty is heart breaking. Big, small, tall, short, wide, narrow, beauty is SO subjective and of course being 13 stone doesn't preclude you from it!

Long story short, I bet you look fucking fabulous ❤️

Yes but they are talking their mass on this planet 🙄

Wellitjustgetsworse · 25/03/2023 20:31

I'm 5ft9 and just over10 and half stone and look over weight. I don't have boobs so all my fat goes to my stomach and my hips. it just doesn't suit my frame. I think you can look good over weight for sure, as we are all different shapes and for example if you are quite busty you will probably carry it well as you'll look voluptuous. I just look like I'm a few months pregnant 😂 I also don't feel very fit with extra weight and better at 10 stone. I find it hard not to snack throughout the day so I know I'll never be that size 8 pre kids size again.

Timeturnerplease · 25/03/2023 20:20

There are plenty of us chunks who don’t argue against BMI. But we also recognise that, regardless of the health implications, some heavier people can look good. I don’t, but a friend of mine is easily 15 stone and 5’3’’ but looks great in whatever she wears.

Good point. A few friends who could wear a binbag and look amazing regardless of their size.

Not me!

branchdavid · 25/03/2023 20:33

This is me at 5ft6 and 13 stone (heaviest I've ever been).

I'm just so fricking solid 🤣🤣 clothes are 12 or 14 I think sizes have changed a lot.

To say you can still look okay at 13 stone?
TennisWithDeborah · 25/03/2023 20:33

I think it’s because you’re well-proportioned OP, and you go in at the waist. Like others, I’d have guessed that you were a stone or two lighter from your pics.

Conversely, there’ll be lighter women on here with large abdomens or F cup boobs (for example) who look bigger than they weigh but are not medically overweight.

" I admire your confidence " just sounds so bitchy!

This!

Obki · 25/03/2023 20:34

I often start the day with a relatively flat stomach, but by evening, my stomach looks 6 months pregnant at least.

I’ve had various tests, coeliac, bloods, colonoscopy, endoscopy, etc but the gastroenterologist said all looked fine.

Anyone have any idea what this could be? I do keep a food diary but there are no obvious patterns.

MamaDollyorJesus · 25/03/2023 20:36

BeretRaspberry · 25/03/2023 19:02

I was a size 12/14 at 13 stone and 5’6”.

I was a 16/18 at that height & weight and I carry weight evenly so don't always look the size I am.

To be a 14/16 I need to be 12.5st so to be a 12/14 I'd need to be about 11.5st.

declutteringmymind · 25/03/2023 20:38

You are beautiful.

I know plenty of overweight and obese people who are hot as hell.

I'm overweight and honestly happy about who I see in the mirror.

Had a recent health wobble so I'm losing some to get healthier and reduce my risk factors.

If you are healthy at that weight - plenty of people are, then fine. If you have a nutritious diet, are physically fit then you're doing well.

" I admire your confidence " just sounds so bitchy!

Agreed

Hardtopickaname · 25/03/2023 20:40

I think you look great.

I used to feel like an absolute whale when watching something where a character would refer to 9 stone as being absolutely huge. Now I try not to worry too much about the number on the scale. But due to childbirth then an injury in m definitely sizing out of my current clothes which has really knocked my confidence.

HolibobsinApril · 25/03/2023 20:40

loverrr · 25/03/2023 20:22

This thread has made me feel really down

I agree.

It's sad that some people would think an adult woman weighing in at 13 stones would be revolting.

Zanatdy · 25/03/2023 20:40

It depends on body shape etc. I’m 5ft 1 and I’d look very chubby / obese at 13st 7 as all the weight gone on my stomach and bust

Wobblymama01 · 25/03/2023 20:40

Well this has made me feel rubbish.

I genuinely think I've got some reverse body image thing going on as when I see photos of myself I look really big and don't recognise myself but when I see myself in mirrors I think I look ok. What's that's all about.

For context I'm 5 foot tall and 14.6 stone which gives me a BMI of just below 40 I think. I take an 18-20 in clothes. But I still think I look pretty good. I dress well, have nice hair, make an effort with makeup etc. But now I'm thinking maybe I don't look that good!

Yes, isn't it gross how womens bodies become trends and slip in and out of 'fashion'. Of course not saying there's anything wrong with being 00 if someone is that size but eats sufficient food to fuel their body etc so its not meant to shame people who are naturally that size; but on the whole the majority would have to really restrict and/or over exercise to achieve that look. I just wish we could reach the point where it was acknowledged that all women can be and are beautiful regardless of size, but that health- being over or underweight is bad health wise. I think it is possible to celebrate all body shapes and sizes whilst promoting fuelling, caring and moving your body for health rather than aesthetics.

mmalinky · 25/03/2023 20:41

Well depends on height obviously
