To say you can still look okay at 13 stone?

I'm 13 stone 7... To my horror! I knew I'd put on a lot rapidly in a short space of time. I'm aware this actually makes me obese. And I need to lose weight for my health

I don't think I look huge though. Definitely not. Might say I'm a bit chubby at a push. Face doesn't look too fat

AIBU to say you can actually be obese and not realise because you don't look 'fat'?

I'm 5'3 so not tall

I’m 5’ 4” and in 2018 I was 11st 8, really unhappy with my wobbly fat body. I then lost it and was 9st 12 - so happy. I kept exercising but also ate lots through the pandemic. This morning I was 11st 9… but my bigger body is nothing like it was in 2018. I’m more toned and my hour glass shape isn’t too bad. I would love to get under 11st but only because I miss some of my lovely clothes that don’t fit.

No you’re not.

How do you know what she looks like?

I'm 5 foot 2 and would look like a whale at 9st, never mind a "bit chubby". My optimum weight is about 7 stone 6.

We all carry weight differently.

sayitaintsobow · 25/03/2023 20:57

I stand corrected, not 7st 11 but 7st 6! As previously said, at a similar weight before I was clinically unwell so why does the BMU calculator tell me 7st 6 is fine for my height? Sad it really wasn't

I haven't been 7st since I was 7!

OldFan · 25/03/2023 21:14

NHS website says the bottom end of healthy for me would be 7 stone 11! When I was just under 8 stone, I was anorexic. Very low body fat percentage and hardly ate 800 calories a day, usually a lot less. Horrific skin and brittle hair and nails. How is that healthy? BMI says it is which is what I don't like with BMI

@sayitaintsobow It just gives a really generous range. I suppose because someone would have to be quite skinny to be genuinely at risk of health problems as a result of their weight. The BMI is a measure of when someone's weight is actually a health risk to be that weight in itself.

This isn't about that a person might be starving themselves to be that weight etc. If you think of some Japanese women or whatever their frame is absolutely tiny so they could be seven and a half stone and still be healthy.

I agree with you, I was that size and my eating habits were bad and I felt anaemic. But some people genuinely have a very small frame, and they are part of the range.

Some Asian people are considered at risk of diabetes etc at a BMI of over 23. Partly because their frames are small.

Mari9999 · 25/03/2023 21:16

OP, obesity is a medical term ; I don't think it is related to how you like.

owiz · 25/03/2023 21:16

OP I am simply stunned, how much muscle do you have?! I am 3 stone lighter, 2 inches taller and yet probably look similar to your photos!

I haven't been 7st since I was 7!

More evidence for us all being different. I was 4 stone something in Year 7 (so aged 11), when what I weighed never crossed my mind until school decided it was a good idea to weigh us all. Which is how I found out that I weighed 4 stone something. I looked perfectly normal, though - I'm just very slightly built. Confused

I clearly remember a weighing session in a GCSE Biology class at the age of 15. I was 5.6 and 10 stone, very slim, and remember my classmates being shocked that I weighed as much as 10 stone.

Bebabelouba · 25/03/2023 21:22

I am almost an identical build to you. I don’t generally comment about my stats on threads like this (even though I have kind of just done so!) as I can’t be bothered ‘defending’ my shape from ‘accusations’ like that person has just posted.

As you say, we are all different with how we carry weight. And people should not be so arrogant as to tell others how they look from some numbers written down.

NicolaSturGONE · 25/03/2023 21:37

Why not just keep your weight to yourself and simply say "I need to lose weight" or "I don't like how I look". There are many people much bigger at your height on here who already feel pretty shit. If you don't like your weight, change it, but weight loss is not some kind of f*cking competition. Even the slimming clubs don't announce your weight to the rest of the group.

polka6 · 25/03/2023 21:40

I'm your height too and weigh 9st. No idea when I went from 7st to 9st. I have tummy rolls. I look fat in certain clothes, anything tight around the lower tum. I am technically a healthy weight but I dont have the figure I did 5-10 years ago. I think I need to be around 8 stone. I am naturally a petite frame though so maybe you carry the weight better. I have wobbly thighs and a tum that I want rid.

Plock · 25/03/2023 21:40

What's with all the weight bait threads on here recently?

Of course you can look lovely if you're overweight, just as you can look bloody awful at a healthy weight. All these threads do is invite loads of extremely smug, patronising "well I am Xfeet tall and if I go above eight stone I look DISGUSTING". It's boring and sad. I haven't got a clue how much I weigh and nor could I care less what others weigh.

Viviennemary · 25/03/2023 21:42

Its too heavy. Lose 2 stone and you will look a lot better. 3 stone better still.

Yeah the ‘I’m a whale at 9 stone’ post was a bit much 😳

Because it is for some of us. I'm your height and I would look healthy at about 8 stone, even a little less perhaps. We are all built differently. I weight 9 st now. That pic you posted of yourself with a baby, I dont think I look dissimilar to that general size, perhaps only slightly smaller. Yet were 4 stone apart? and the same height. Obviously shows we carry weight so differently. You also have a lovely flat tummy and toned calves! My fat goes straight to the tum/thighs unfortunately. I noticed the other day on the bus, a lady who was significant larger than me, as in literally about 3-4 of me around the middle, had skinnier legs than me. We are all made so differently!

Wexone · 25/03/2023 21:56

God I am 5ft 5inches I would look dreadfull if was 13 stone. I am currently about 9 stone. walk every single day and dint over do food. does go up a few pounds especially on hols or Xmas buy always get it donw but getting harder as get older (early 40s) my heaviest was 10 and a half stone..I felt dreadfully constantly tired sluggish skin terrible state plus huge belly ( that's where my weight shows ) manged to loose it all during lockdowns ( I know one of the few ) and feel so mich better. clothes fit me better more energy ect no way going back there

Nothing2lose · 25/03/2023 21:58

I’m 5ft 2 and anything over 10 stone I’m getting chubby/curvy and I hate it. That being said it’s however you feel sexy or comfortable.
Oh and I’ve not got big boobs, I feel like that adds weight to scales.

Flowersinthewindowstill · 25/03/2023 21:58

To get back to 13 stone would be a dream now. At 13 I was generally 10 in shirts and dresses. 14 ish on the bottom.

I'm on the tall side though (5ft 8). The lowest weight of my adult life was 11st 9 and I was an 8 then and quite gaunt looking.

artimesiasfootsteps · 25/03/2023 22:00

I’m five foot four and weigh 8.8 stone. I’m slim but skinny fat, not toned at all and soft tummy (recent c section). I think you can look gorgeous at all different weights, one of my best friends is obese in medical terms, but she’s gorgeous, thick bouncy blonde hair, amazing posture etc, I’d trade places with her in a heartbeat.

Dummycrusher · 25/03/2023 22:03

Ultimately BMI is a broad brush calculator. Anyone whingeing about it needs to take a step back and realise that it's used as a flag for an unhealthy weight - if a person is very athletic or a very small frame, sure, disregard it. If you have a muffin top and a double chin and big folds where your bra strap sits, chances are you are overweight and look overweight. You don't need a number to tell you when you have excess fat. And ultimately, it doesn't really matter if you 'look' overweight or not - it's about whether you feel healthy and are fit and capable. Carrying loads of excess fat isn't good for you, and I'd imagine at the weight you've described you probably have a lot of excess fat.
I looked fine at 5'7 and 11st10 but felt lardy and wasn't fit. I look much better at 11st and am a bit fitter. By 10st7 I won't have significant rolls and will be able to run 5k in less than 30 mins. That's my goal.

Pointblank2 · 25/03/2023 22:03

I’ve been vastly overweight for years and only 5 ‘2, I think you still can look ok by buying well fitting clothes that suit you and by having your hair and make up done nicely. I can go out feeling totally full of confidence and get compliments. Then someone takes photos and invariably there’s one of me at an unfortunate angle and I look huge, the confidence ebbs away a bit after that.

I try and try to lose weight but to no avail (some medical issues).

Mamai90 · 25/03/2023 22:03

I think it depends. Two of my friends carry weight better than me. When I'm 11 stone and 5'6 I'm a size 12/14 but my friend who is 5'5 is a 10 at 11 stone. Other friend is a 12 at nearly 12 stone but looks amazing in a bikini, she's all boobs and tiny waist. If you feel good that's the most important thing. I'd rather feel good than look good, I've felt repulsive at 10 stone and great at 13 at different times in my life and feeling good is what matters ultimately.

Chickenkorma64 · 25/03/2023 22:04

Also 5 ft 3 and about 13stone 2. However Have a very large bust that is immune to diet and exercise. If I chopped them off I’d lose the better part of a stone!
Have to buy tops sometime up to size 22 to fit while lower body is size 16.

It’s hard to look good while the clothing industry designs for people who are in proportion.

WollyWinka · 25/03/2023 22:06

I don't understand the photos either- if that's you in your knickers.

You look like me, apart from having bigger thighs and boobs and yet I weigh 6 st less. My BMI is normal- just at the low end of normal. I'm old enough to be your mother (or even gran!) and I know I've lost muscle but no way would anyone say I skinny.
