To say you can still look okay at 13 stone?

I'm 13 stone 7... To my horror! I knew I'd put on a lot rapidly in a short space of time. I'm aware this actually makes me obese. And I need to lose weight for my health

I don't think I look huge though. Definitely not. Might say I'm a bit chubby at a push. Face doesn't look too fat

AIBU to say you can actually be obese and not realise because you don't look 'fat'?

I'm 5'3 so not tall

Yes, I think age makes a difference. All my excess weight goes to my belly. You look nice though, OP. I also wonder if your scale is broken.

Steady on, Swiss Toni!

😂😂

@sayitaintsobow, the fraction of you in your photo looks excellent, not even overweight. Were you holding that child when you weighed yourself??

Denialisariverinegypt · 25/03/2023 19:36

I'm 5,2 and used to weigh 14stone. Hovering down down to 12stone and I'm still overweight. I have an hourglass figure. So it's getting better.

I'm 5'4 12 stone, a size 14 and look a right fat fuck, no 2 ways about it.

You made me proper laugh!! I'm 5'5" a size 16 and I also look like a right fat fuck. Saw a pic of me the other day and I looked piggy faced. Used to be a size 10 b4 kids and now menopause. Sigh..

I’m 5”2, and currently edging towards 9st, usually around 8 1/2 but have gained due to medication. I’m definitely a bit “chubby” looking at 9st.

Blimey. I’m 5 foot 1 and at my heaviest was 13. I looked and felt like a whale.

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 25/03/2023 19:38

You look amazing in that dress.

I'm also 5'3. I felt very big at 13 stone. I'm currently 11.7 and while I'm not particularly wide, I look big at the front.

I'm okay around 10 stone. I'd like to be 9.7 though.

Unlikely after two kids, it seems...

CrotchetyCrocheting · 25/03/2023 19:39

Some real bitchy replies here! I have a friend who is a lot heavier than she looks. She looks fantastic, she just kind of carries the weight all over so doesn't have a stomach or any part of her that looks 'fat'. It's definitely possible to not look as heavy as you are. And lots of people look great even if they are visibly overweight, it's all about presentation and how you carry yourself.

Witchofcawdor · 25/03/2023 19:39

Yes, you can look good at that weight and height. It just depends on the individual. I'm seeing lots of replies here saying how much they weight and their clothes size, to mean that's meaningless when it comes to how good you looked. I was out shopping today and I saw a woman who was much heavier than me and I thought to myself, 'I wish I carried myself and my weight the way that she does'. She was probably about a size 14 and average height but she looked great. I know people who are overweight who look better than some others who are a healthy weight and vice versa. I think it comes down to various factors- how you dress yourself and do your hair/make up, how you carry your weight, bone structure, etc. It all comes down to the individual.

IHateLegDay · 25/03/2023 19:40

I'm 5"9 and don't look too bad at 13 stone.
At 11 stone, I'm really skinny

onetimenamec · 25/03/2023 19:41

I often wonder about Penny Lancaster. She is tall and big boned and married to a weedy little guy but does she look statuesque or plump? I can never decide

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 25/03/2023 19:42

I wrote a post on here quite similar when I first realised I was obese and I have lost 1 stone 1lb since. I saw a picture of myself and realised I looked really fat 😆. I do know what you mean though. I thought obese was much much larger

Denialisariverinegypt · 25/03/2023 19:43

Photo angle as well. From the front I don't look as heavy. But if I'm sideways you can still see the over hange and hip budget etc!

Hubblebubble · 25/03/2023 19:44

Hi OP, im your height and exactly 11 stone. Im overweight and I look it. I'm an hourglass. What's your body shape?

Lastnamedidntstick · 25/03/2023 19:45

You look great o/p.

I am 5’4 and hit 12.5 st during lockdown. I don’t actually think I looked that bad either. I took bra and pants photos and I can’t see a major difference. I am bigger, but my proportions remain the same so I don’t look fatter. I certainly don’t look obese.

I got a new job which is more physically active, and that combined with better eating (ie not working from home with the fridge within arms length, kids making cakes out of boredom every other day etc) so have dropped 2.5 stone since my first day.

no one has noticed 😂. I’m still wearing the same clothes although obviously they are now a bit more comfortable.

I work with a lot of fit young people and am often gobsmacked to find they weigh 11 or 12 stone. They look lovely! And no, it’s not “lost sight of normal” 🙄.

I think that's what's scary. I didn't know what 'obese' looked like

Would never have put myself down to being obese but it appears it's true, the skinny ladies of MN are right - we have lost sight of what is a healthy weight

Not sure what the answer is as I've got a long history of bulimia. Not been unwell for many years but I can be quite obsessive so have to be careful with changing my eating habits

I am not sensitive to criticism though funnily enough

5 ft 9 is not 5 ft 3 though is it? Confused

Obki · 25/03/2023 19:46

I’m 5’2” and I was 12 stone in Jan. Have lost a stone and with hair and make up and right clothes look really good, but it’s more effort than when I was 8.5 stone.

PrettyMaybug · 25/03/2023 19:46

@underneaththeash

...you May have squeezed into a size 12 - but I’m pretty sure it didn’t look great...

FFS just don’t eat so much.

That's just nasty.. How rude. People at 13 stone - and 5 ft 3, are not going to look slim, and I find it hard to believe someone of that height and weight would get into a normal size 12, but they can still look perfectly OK.

My friend is 5 ft 2 and a half, and is 13 and a half stone, and her son got married in October. They had a 'candid' and 'relaxed' photographer who took photos all through the day - 400 in all, and she looked lovely on most of them in her lovely charcoal grey pant suit.

The ones taken from the side weren't so flattering, and she said so herself, but the ones taken from the front (even the ones where she didn't know they were being taken) were fine. Some were lovely, and she looked nice.

BCBird · 25/03/2023 19:47

I was 23 stone fir most of my adult life avd got down to 13. Felt and looked phenomenal. Curves, boobs and shapely legs. Shame I now 4 abdca half stone heavier.im an emotional.eater: one break up,death of parent and suicide of new partner have contributed to this. Got to get my shit together. I agree re the confidence comment. Not nice undertones.

PrettyMaybug · 25/03/2023 19:47

If that is a recent picture @sayitaintsobow are you sure your scales aren't broke! You only look about 10 stone.

I don't actually know. Would love if someone could tell me

I have smallish boobs but don't put weight on first at the belly, so know if I've 'really' put on weight when my boobs and tummy get bigger!

I have a large bottom and bigger legs... huge calf muscles that I hate but can't seem to change since being a child

It depends on bones and muscle. Some people are fine boned and others are really not. Some people are highly muscled and some are not. When I'm working out a lot, with a lot of muscle at 13 stone or just under, it really suits me as I have broad shoulders, with a wide rib cage and build muscle easily. Also, my husband works out every day and is very muscular and broad, yet he weighs 14 stone, which is way above what his bmi "should" be. My point is everyone is different and it really depends.

If I really went very far and I got to a size 10 I would probably look quite unwell. My Skelton and skeletal muscle would make it so I just wouldn't look nice.

Stravawindow · 25/03/2023 19:48

Everyone carries weight differently I’m 5’7. At 13’7, I was a size 16 bottom half and an 18/20 top half. I looked and felt massive. My heaviest weight was 13’12.

I am currently 10’6 and a 12 bottom half and a 12/14 top half.
