I may be being old fashioned, but the pale, hairy, rather masculine-shaped legs suggest that smart young ladies are not the target market.

I don't think they are too bad, they actually look quite comfortable- I could give examples of far worse footwear. This, for example.

Is it just because it's a man wearing heels and you are uncomfortable if people wear clothes or footwear that are contrary to gender stereotypes?

I had some shoes not dissimilar to these in the late 90s... sort of "puffy" wedges, but white. As I recall they were quite popular.

Ok they look gross, but I will say they look more comfortable than most of the ladies sandals we are supposed to put on our bare feet, with badly stitched edges to cause blisters.
