Happy Mothering Sunday to all of you lovely people who are of a mothering nature, be that female, male, people with kids or people without kids.

Thinking of those people who will find today hard, for whatever reason.

Have a lovely day, everyone!

Lovely positive start! FlowersCake

EarringsandLipstick · 19/03/2023 08:14

Why on earth does 'Mothering' Sunday have to include males?

This is a day to celebrate mothers, in whatever way they / their DC wish

It doesn't have to be big or fancy, or even celebrated. It is sad for some women who have lost their own mums or have experienced infertility or have thoughtless spouses who won't mark it.

But we don't have to make it about 'males'.

Are you saying that males can't have the qualities that a mother has? If so, I take your point.

But you can't say that, so I don't.

I think a lot of males do mothering too. My friend whose wife died when their kids were small definitely tries to provide both fathering and mothering roles.

he deserves a bunch of daffs.

itsabigtree · 19/03/2023 08:17

Nope, mother's day is not about men.

Funkyslippers · 19/03/2023 08:18

Yes but there is Father's Day in June.....

Haraebo · 19/03/2023 08:18

Furthermore to my comment, the only reasons a male CANNOT be a MOTHER is that they can't conceive or give birth, and they cannot breast-feed. And the last time I heard, that's not the reason we would celebrate a mother. It's for all they do and the qualities they have.

And I would celebrate all those females who have cared for, loved and been there for other people.

Happy Mothering Sunday

Celebrate the day servants were allowed to go back "home" to their mother church and hopefully see their family and childhood friends.

Pandermonium · 19/03/2023 08:22

Happy mothers day to you too ❤️

Such a lovely post.
I'm finding this one a bit hard. But my beautiful children are making it a lovely day 💕

What a lovely post and sentiment shame a couple of posters didn't get the memo
Take it for what it is @EarringsandLipstick , not everything needs to turn into an argument
Hope you have a lovely day @Haraebo

And for males, we celebrate all they do and the qualities they have on fathers day in June.

Why though? Do you celebrate your dad's birthday on your Mum's birthday?

No because my Dad was an abusive prick (who's dead now) and my mother didn't protect me, so I find it hard to celebrate either of them.

I DO, however, celebrate the people who DO look after my best interests.

Thank you.🌸You too.

My mum passed away a few years ago. Towards the end her brain was affected and she became, at times a challenge to be around. I understand the stress of those trying to juggle elderly parents and children. Life is not always easy and 🌻to you of life is hard at the moment.

Now, I'd do anything to give Mum a last hug and a hand hold again 😪

Happy Mothers day to all. Hope you all have a special moment today and feel loved.💖

This is so true. This was a well intentioned post.

Mardy arses, look elsewhere for your kicks today

Tartanshores · 19/03/2023 08:29

I hope you post something similar on Father’s Day telling everyone to celebrate women on the day signposted to celebrate Fathers.

As a previous poster pointed out, Mother’s Day is actually a religious festival when people returned to their Mother Church . Nothing to do with men taking up women’s spaces .

jackstini · 19/03/2023 08:30

Thank you - and you 💐

Am sitting in an airport alone after a work trip, but texting my Mum and very grateful I will get to see my kids later today when I get home

jays · 19/03/2023 08:31

‘Of a mothering nature! I absolutely love this, it was exactly my thoughts this morning but you just worded it beautifully! What a lovely post, happy Mother’s Day! X

I'm well aware of the origins, thank you. Which is lucky as I'm just ready to go and lead the service and teach about this very thing at my church.

You are correct, of course. The 'Mother' in the word 'mothering' related to the church. The home church where people returned to celebrate their FAMILIES.

Whilst I appreciate the sentiment and it's good intentions, I'm with the posters who think that Mother's Day is about the female parent, not the male one.

Personally I wouldn't describe all caring for children as mothering. If done by a man, I'd probably say parenting or that he's behaving as a father. And there's a day in the year to celebrate that too.

How long will it take you to get home @jackstini ?

smellyflowers · 19/03/2023 08:36

I think wishing people a happy mothers day when they might be feeling utterly miserable about it is a bit odd but I appreciate the sentiment.
