Happy Mothering Sunday to all of you lovely people who are of a mothering nature, be that female, male, people with kids or people without kids.

Thinking of those people who will find today hard, for whatever reason.

Have a lovely day, everyone!

Are you usually so negative? It must be exhausting

I see your reading skills haven't improved.

I'm not negative. I'm in favour of accuracy and I dislike OP being a GF.

Your passive-aggressive behaviour is tiresome, and silly.

smashinggrapes · 19/03/2023 10:00

"I know two single Dads raising their kids without any input from (absent) Mum's. Single parents - whether Mums or Dads - have to step up and fill both roles. I think that entitles them to a card and bit of toast in bed."

Only two of them? Great stuff. They'll get their toast on Father's Day. They're not "entitled" to anything btw, especially on Mother's Day

And for all those saying this was a "well intentioned post". It wasn't. The capitalised ALL in the title gives it away for what it is. Another chance to ram dicks into our spaces

👏👏👏👏

@Haraebo I can understand from your further posts why you prefer this day to be inclusive, have a wonderful day surrounded by the people who do love and protect you 💗

Mincedpies · 19/03/2023 10:08

This is a lovely post and a refreshing read in the sea of misery about Mother’s Day on here.

I have no human children but I got beautiful cards and presents from my dogs, who I mother 😊

Mothers come in all shapes, sizes and flavours. I’m sorry so many people have chosen to get argumentative about your lovely post.

Redebs · 19/03/2023 10:08

@LadyHaHaHeeHaw
Bullying arguments still don't make men into mothers.
This thread was started to wind up gender critical opinion holders.

Eh , I haven't said anything like that
@Haraebo made a lovely post and people are trying make it into an argument
Good grief, talk about making life harder for yourself

LuckyDonna · 19/03/2023 10:19

Happy Mother's Day everyone.

^
Obviously "everyone " being mothers (only women can be mothers), whether with or without their children. ^

Ludo19 · 19/03/2023 10:21

My mothering nature goes to my cats. Who incidently "bought" me a card but I woke up to a pished duvet (not by me!) So not sure how to react?

Anyway hope everyone has a nice day whatever you're up to 💐

Whadda · 19/03/2023 10:22

How bizarre.

I’ve actively chosen to not have children. I’ve spent a lot of time, money, and effort to ensure that.

Why would anyone wish me a happy Mother’s Day?

I don’t even mean just you, OP, but this morning I’ve been tagged on two Instagram posts. You know, one of those ones describing different types of mothers and, this year in particular, there seems to be spots to “those who chose to not become mothers”. It’s really weird.

To me, it’s like sending a Jehovah’s Witness a birthday card saying “happy birthday to someone who doesn’t celebrate birthdays”.

Gender critical opinion holders could start a fight in an empty house ffs

Devoutspoken · 19/03/2023 12:21

If you weren't trying to be provocative, why use CAPITALS!

Standbyguest · 19/03/2023 12:22

Why does mothers day need to be hijacked? Will you be posting the same shit on fathers day? Thought not, that days for the men.

Devoutspoken · 19/03/2023 12:23

I prefer mothers day to mothering Sunday, like Christmas, times have moved on

ssd · 19/03/2023 12:24

I hope the op does post on fathers day, shut the lot of you up

ImAvingOops · 19/03/2023 12:26

Probably won't though. Or if they do post, it'll just be to make a point.
I don't feel the need to be celebrated on Fathers' Day, what with me not being a father

Devoutspoken · 19/03/2023 12:31

Oh I do now, I want my 'fathering' qualities celebrated!

PinkiOcelot · 19/03/2023 12:33

Thank you! Happy Mother’s Day to you too x

Theres always some who feel the need to be pedantic!

EarringsandLipstick · 19/03/2023 12:33

Theres always some who feel the need to be pedantic!

Nope. It's not pedantic to point out that only women can be mothers. Men cannot be.

WestwardHo1 · 19/03/2023 12:34

EarringsandLipstick · 19/03/2023 08:14

Why on earth does 'Mothering' Sunday have to include males?

This is a day to celebrate mothers, in whatever way they / their DC wish

It doesn't have to be big or fancy, or even celebrated. It is sad for some women who have lost their own mums or have experienced infertility or have thoughtless spouses who won't mark it.

But we don't have to make it about 'males'.

My mate was widowed when he was 40 and his wife was only 37. She died of breast cancer when their girls were only little, and since then he has done all the parenting. If his lovely girls want to mark the day for him, anyone who doesn't like it can get stuffed.

WestwardHo1 · 19/03/2023 12:35

Yes he gets Father's Day too. Never mind, he does double parenting.

HelpIcantfindaname · 19/03/2023 12:39

My husband lost his last wife to breast cancer 12 years ago. Their son was 5 so he was both mother & father to his son till we married. In the 6 years we have known each other I've always acknowledged him on Mothers Day as well as fathers day too.

EarringsandLipstick · 19/03/2023 12:43

@WestwardHo1

Sure. I'm sorry fir your friend & his little girls. They can of course mark any day they want die their dad.

However, it doesn't change the point that Mother's Day is for mothers, who are women.

Father's Day is for fathers, who are men.

(And in each case the term 'mother' or 'father' can of course relate to the person who performs that role but may not be eg biologically a mother or a father).

MissFancyDay · 19/03/2023 12:44

The OP knew what they were doing. Trying to spread a little division and upset on Mother's Day. The day we celebrate mothers.

Well done OP. You can trot off to church now your work is done.
