Yea and it’s driving me mad

ShiningAsAlways · 12/03/2023 22:16

Yep, really irritating. Also annoying me is the ads that look like threads mixed in with the other threads

Igniteyourbones · 12/03/2023 22:28

Yes driving me mad, making the site really difficult to use and think I will stop coming on mumsnet if it doesn’t change. The whole top half of my phone screen blocked by a big ad. Makes reading/commenting on threads really difficult. I searched the topic and found several posts reporting the same problem going back a year. Admin comment on the threads acting oblivious to the problem and say that they will look into it ………. But clearly not if it’s still happening a year later.

Zipidydodah · 12/03/2023 22:37

Yes me too
site is unusable

Zipidydodah · 12/03/2023 22:39

Can’t only see about 1/3 of screen and I’ve cleared the cookies stuff which is the usual (useless) suggestion

Mumsnet adverts!!!
YewandOak · 12/03/2023 22:45

No ads here, just the odd blank space.
Used AdBlocker for years.

BronnauMawrion · 12/03/2023 22:46

Its ridiculous. When on my phone I can't see the text between the ad and the keyboard. It's so frustrating.

Thisisnotmyname2022 · 12/03/2023 22:49

Full page!

Mumsnet adverts!!!
OkOkWhatsNext · 12/03/2023 22:58

Only about half of the ad itself (the left half!) is appearing too, so there is obviously a problem. Half an ad taking up over a third of the screen space. Annoying.

ChocAuVin · 12/03/2023 23:03
Hmm
Mumsnet adverts!!!
twoshedsjackson · 12/03/2023 23:46

I don't know what the advertisers hope to achieve, but all it engenders in me is a grim determination to have nothing to do with the products mentioned, and as for the ads disguised as threads...............

PamDooove · 13/03/2023 05:46

OP: moan about ads

Other posters: use an ad blocker.

OP (and various other posters): ignores helpful advice about (free) adblockers, continues to moan.

I'm not the OP but similar to a poster up thread I have installed an ad blocker due to the ads and the issue isnt resolved. Yes I don't see the adverts but the huge space where the ad would be is still there covering most of the page and thus the site is still pretty much unusable so it's not exactly a workable solution.

Laurapb88 · 13/03/2023 06:07

As previous poster said I have installed an ad blocker hasn't worked and we are entitled to moan its annoying 🙄 the blank space where the ads are is still taking up half of the screen and I still can't remove the blank space maybe @mumsnet could fix it instead? When we've tried other helpful advice. It's certainly not making people want to buy what they are advertising 🙄

These ads aren’t within the thread, so you can’t scroll down, they cover the screen, you can’t close them, and you can’t scroll past them. You get a little bit of your page showing at the bottom and have to scroll down that tiny bit of page line by line.

Clearly the tech department of MN isn’t on duty at the weekend. They have asked to see URLs etc and have been given endless examples… as if they don’t have phones of their own that they can look at and see what the problem is.

The site has been shit since the last re-work anyway. I am fed up with writing posts only to have them disappear as an ad re loads before I can press ‘post’.

For a major site it is embarrassing. IMO.

Ikilledthebabysharkdododuhdodudoo · 13/03/2023 06:15

Yep. INFURIATING.

JunkinDonuts · 13/03/2023 06:20

I thought it was my device until others mentioned it.
It's infuriating.
I've found if I click back a page, then click next to go back to the page I was reading, it seems to clear it.
However, going back and forth is equally infuriating.
Sort it out MN please.

Could you consider using the app? I don't see any adverts really

JoMumsnet · 13/03/2023 07:19

Hi everyone,

We're really sorry for all the disruption these ads are causing. We're looking into this as a matter of urgency and we're hoping to have this resolved very soon. Please bear with us for a short while longer and check out this thread in Site Stuff, which is where we'll be posting any updates.

Nimbostratus100 · 13/03/2023 07:21

I think Mumsnet is trying to sort it out - put your screen shots into "site stuff" that is where it is being monitored.

Igniteyourbones · 13/03/2023 08:38

The problem is that there is a thread exactly like this around once a month, going back to over a year ago. Search “advert” on the site. Each time Mumsnet comment acting oblivious to the problem and say they will look into the problem. But clearly nothing is done, or they are happy with the giant ads covering half your screen, making the site really difficult to use. I really don’t mind ads at all, usually just scroll past. But giant ones that cover half your screen, cant be scrolled past or minimised, and you can’t use the site properly are just infuriating and putting people off coming to this website.

HebeMumsnet · 13/03/2023 12:51

Hi everyone. This issue is fixed now. If you do spot it again please do let us know but it should be sorted now.

Laurapb88 · 13/03/2023 16:07

@JoMumsnet it fixed it for about an hour now they're back 😂 have you been hacked lol

The problem IS NOT fixed 🤣 Still getting giant ads covering up half my screen that I can’t scroll past or minimise.
