Embarrassed to be from England

hi

I’m English but live in Scotland. Me and my Scottish friends were just subject to three white, English men from Grantham / Skegness screaming about loving Margaret thatcher, how all weegies are junkies, and how they’d r* the Scottish and lesbian out of us and screaming about how they voted brexit to get rid of ‘jock’ bastards. This is in Scotland. Luckily for these three me and my friends do not tolerate such ridiculous behaviour and they had a quick lesson.

However, as a person unfortunate enough to have an English accent and have grown up In a neighbouring county it is highly embarrassing to have experienced this. I have made a home in Scotland, having experienced such homophobia and witnessing such ignorance and racism on a daily basis in my English hometown, whilst I am not claiming my new home to be perfect I feel far safer as a lesbian than at home, where it is unsafe to be visibly queer.

Ultimately, there are plenty of English people like me who are grateful for Scotland for being so welcoming and if racist and stupid individuals want to scream anti Scottish abuse they could refrain from living here and inflicting their presence upon everyone.

They actually screamed at us about their mothers being on mumsnet - so if anyone has a son aged 25-35 from Grantham / Skegness who is working away in glasgow, this is an fyi that they are abusing people in the street.

OP posts:

I'm highly doubtful that 3 lads in their 20s even know what mumsnet is 🤣🤣

You just took it too far there.

How bored are you?

Adrelaxzz · 09/03/2023 08:40

England is embarrassing because we voted for the absolute vile, bastards we have in government that are destroying our economy and reputation.
Individuals are not representative of that.
I can name run ins I've had with individuals from about 50 nations. None of them make me judge that nation. (I won't bring up the time Rangers fans came to Manchester and pissed (literally) all over it for 24 hours.)

maddening · 09/03/2023 08:41

Do you think scummy men from other countries are better than English scummy men? There are scummy Scottish men also (also lived in Scotland for a while myself - they definitely exist).

Sorry for your experience though, it is not representative of England though.

maddy68 · 09/03/2023 08:45

Actually I'm a teacher and one of the insults I heard was "your mum got banned from Mumsnet " made me giggle

Yesthatismychildsigh · 09/03/2023 08:57

Of course this happened. Exactly as you described it. You poor thing.

Yesthatismychildsigh · 09/03/2023 08:58

Just realised - some schools are closed today.

OoooohMatron · 09/03/2023 09:03

So a couple of dickheads represent an entire country? Righto. English people slagging off their country because of a few badly behaved scrotes is what's embarrassing. Stupid post.

Well yes, a child may well say that to another child. A racist homophobe in the rampage? Seems unlikely doesn't it

DanceMonster · 09/03/2023 09:05

Howling at the idea of 30 year old English men screaming ‘my mum is on Mumsnet’ at people in Scotland 😂

soggydigestives · 09/03/2023 09:06

There are plenty of louts in Scotland too 🙄

EmbraceTheGrace · 09/03/2023 09:15

Who's going to be the first one to change their user name to MyMumsOnMN ??? Grin

vitahelp · 09/03/2023 09:16

Every country has people like this sadly, don't let it make you ashamed of being English.

PinkiOcelot · 09/03/2023 09:36

🙄
Hardly representative of the whole English nation OP.
And mentioning their mum’s are on MN?! Yeh, righto.

Justcallmebebes · 09/03/2023 10:14

They actually screamed at us about their mothers being on mumsnet

Of course they did 🙄

FakingMemories · 09/03/2023 12:00

Cool story, bro.

MyMumIsOnMN · 09/03/2023 12:02

Never happened

Maireas · 09/03/2023 12:17

OP, I suspect you're long gone, but have some dignity and get this thread deleted.

Mercurial123 · 09/03/2023 12:29

Agree the OP made it up. The MN bit of the story was a bit rubbish.

Amispringy · 09/03/2023 14:09

Screamed???

Did they, aye?

DumpedinKilburn · 09/03/2023 14:33

Mortimercat · 09/03/2023 04:37

I do not understand why you would be ashamed of being English because of three badly behaved people. If you follow that to its natural conclusion then every person in the world should or would be ashamed of their nationality.

I think you just wanted an anti English thread really, because you are otherwise being nonsensical.

This.

I'm quite sure there are three English people that you admire-famous or not.

In which case you could have started a thread called,

'Proud to be from England.'

Have a little think and start such a thread or don't if it doesn't suit your rather transparent agenda.

Timesawastin · 09/03/2023 14:57

Riapia · 09/03/2023 05:26

From Grantham and Skegness eh.
I’m from Lincolnshire and can confirm that this is typical behaviour.
We dislike people from anywhere else.
In fact we don’t even like each other.

“The most brute and beastly shire in all the realm”. Henry viii.
😁😁

Lovely countryside though

PsychoHotSauce · 09/03/2023 04:21

I came across a term on SM the other day. It was "we don't claim him". In your case it means I might be English but he/they are not one of "ours" and that behaviour is disgusting.

Honestly though, I'm not sure why you put it down to being English rather than toxic male pack mentality. There's idiots in every demographic.

Because the English are one of the few groups it's acceptable to hate, ridicule, stereotype, project things onto, etc. Our 'woke'-liberal culture has evolved a new hierarchy, and the English are right near the bottom – just watch a Hollywood movie.

lieselotte · 09/03/2023 15:47

And I am not ashamed to be British or anything else. I am only responsible for my own behaviour, nobody else's.

Abitofalark · 09/03/2023 15:50

Aside from the OP's bold claim of a lesson delivered - did you really, considering they don't sound particularly receptive to lessons what with all those threats and yelling about mumsnet? - can't stand this slating of the English or England while stating they live another country which they are careful not to name. Don't be coy. Play fair and name the other country or give up criticising a named country that you are targeting.
