School celebrated a Muslim LGBT activist on International Women’s day!

AIBU to be annoyed at the school? I’m baffled as why have the school missed an opportunity here. They already celebrate lgbt history month and then pride in June at school.

Why is this issue that affects a very tiny minority is so heavily influenced in children’s curriculum?

Is the activist a natal woman?

Threemangoes · 09/03/2023 00:13

She is a biologically born woman. I believe.

It seems like your reservation is that lgbt is already celebrated enough so why celebrate it again? I don’t think that being lgbt detracts from being a brave woman though. So I think it’s ok that they’re celebrating her. I dare say that she probably had a harder time advocating for gay rights because of being part of a religious community. So it seems ok to celebrate her and I don’t see how it’s inappropriate on IWD.

GrumpyPanda · 09/03/2023 00:18

YABU if she's a Muslim lesbian - that would be actual intersectionality. YANBU if she's a QT activist centering the mighty penis on IWD. I've seen too much of that servile nonsense today.

sugarspices · 09/03/2023 00:19

Hang on, you're mad that a school celebrated a woman on international women's day because the woman they chose is an LGBT activist and a muslim? Should they have specifically chosen a white straight woman?

MrsTerryPratchett · 09/03/2023 00:20

Threemangoes · 09/03/2023 00:13

All good then.

I mean IWD is for all women, lesbian, Muslim, all women.

Bluepuffa · 09/03/2023 00:20

very unreasonable. Gay Muslim women are women.

Onnabugeisha · 09/03/2023 00:21

YABU. She’s a woman. Of course she is eligible. Sounds like you wanted a Christian, straight woman who doesn’t do anything but watch telly to be nominated.

Exactly this! It’s possible we’re misunderstanding you but I don’t know why Muslim and lgbt needed to be mentioned in the title unless there’s some problem with women not being white and straight (though Muslims can be white to be fair).

Bluepuffa · 09/03/2023 00:22

My workplace held an event with a speaker who with her wife is undergoing IVF. As a gay woman should she have been excluded?

holierthanthou73 · 09/03/2023 00:22

YABU I fail to see the issue

sparepantsandtoothbrush · 09/03/2023 00:23

Threemangoes · 09/03/2023 00:13

She is a biologically born woman. I believe.

So what's the problem? Women being allowed to be women? A Muslim being allowed to be a woman?

This!
You do realise that there are not just white, straight, Christian church goer women, right?
Not sure why you'd have a problem with a Muslim LGBT woman?

Flounder2022 · 09/03/2023 00:26

What opportunity was missed??

I'm thinking more 'person trying to prove MN is phobic' but I'll give you odds.

Threemangoes · 09/03/2023 00:33

Yes this. It is celebrated left right and centre in primary schools. That's why I am annoyed.

Is IWD only for straight non Muslim women then?
Weird. I thought it was for all women. (The female kind)

The point is the constant promotion of LGBTQ+ in that school. They already have history month and pride, now they’ve found a reason for more. The Muslim woman is a U.K. citizen and part of those two other events already. She doesn’t have to be picked out.

Do they have an other religions month?
A differently abled month?
Art and achievement of other cultures month?
(Maybe they do.)

Notatallanamechange · 09/03/2023 00:42

So let me get this right. International Women’s Day wasn’t white and straight enough for you? International women’s Day should be ‘White Heterosexual Women’s Day?’. Because anyone else is over represented?

FML.

Threemangoes · 09/03/2023 00:42

No I'm not an idiot.
I'm not white.
I'm not a Christian.
Just annoyed because of how much Lgbt topic/issues are given so much space in the primary school curriculum when it only affects a tiny minority.

OP posts:
OneLongSmorgasbord · 09/03/2023 00:42

I don't see the problem as long as it was an actual woman. Who was it?

Why shouldnt she speak?
