To think our govt is capable of rigging an election

With everything in the news about what they pulled with and during covid, them acting as a bunch of Eton bully boys above the rules (let's face it they probably got up to all sorts at Eton to)...we litterally can't trust them any more surely ... surely they're capable of anything deceitful now...

What really scares me us that if there was a genuine pandemic like Ebola or anything deadly the public would be like yeah right, F Off, see you down the pub in half an hour!

I agree and the fact that its paper ballots being counted worries me. Who actually is monitoring this shit?

shatteredmama · 06/03/2023 20:06

Tories are dishonest scum. I wouldn’t put it past them.

Hawkins003 · 06/03/2023 20:06

Usually its not always the entire govt sometimes just a small group or element within the establishment that aims to achieve x, sorta thing.

As for your second part that's quite correct.

NewspaperTaxis · 06/03/2023 20:08

Aren't we going to need ID for the next Council elections and probably GE? That discriminates against non car drivers or anyone who hasn't needed to get their passport in order, I think.

deplorabelle · 06/03/2023 20:09

Constituency based first past the post IS a rig of the voting system and always has been.

Voter ID is a longstanding rig of the system in USA but new here.

Olios · 06/03/2023 20:10

YANBU it's astounding what they get away with and think is acceptable. Just the other day I was thinking how they all have parents I'd be so ashamed if I was one of their parents but then realised that they are probably equally as arrogant, obnoxious and selfish. The would-be best politicians are probably people who have no intention of becoming politicians

It was widely reported that Liz Truss's father was very ashamed of her politics. Poor chap

Offer up your services next time and you’ll see exactly how it works at the count or the polling station. You get paid too

QuertyGirl · 06/03/2023 20:15

I wouldn't put it past them.

Buy there will riots if they back in, in the short term and the UK will be an international laughing stock, gradually becoming poorer and more corrupt as the years go by in the long term.

StrawberryAnnie · 06/03/2023 20:15

Yes. They are skilled at deceiving the public and spreading misinformation. It’s all engineered and strategic.

Crazykefir · 06/03/2023 20:15

Her parents were in cnd:(

CremeEggThief · 06/03/2023 20:18

No. I believe they're capable of planning it, but I they're so inept they wouldn't succeed!

LuluBlakey1 · 06/03/2023 20:18

Generally, election counts are strictly monitored by local officials and people from each party.

However, the Tories are already making things weighted in their favour in elections by the changes to constituency boundaries which negatively affects traditionally Labour constituencies mote than any other party, and by insisting on everyone producing photo ID to vote. Many less well-off people may not have a driving licence, passport or the other forms of acceptable ID.

Passivhaus · 06/03/2023 20:22

They don't have the intelligence to run a piss up in a brewery never mind rig an election. The blame lies squarely with middle England and the Tory voters

Theunamedcat · 06/03/2023 20:22

They changed things in my area so no-one with any kind of physical disability can go and vote yes you can get a postal vote buuuut our postbox got removed too our turnout has gone from 40 ish percent to around 23%

x2boys · 06/03/2023 20:23

If Labour don't get in in the next election it's because they are shit and people don't trust them ,more people vote conservative than people think it's just the die, yards in sicial.media are an echo chamber and so vile to those who think.differently to them .

x2boys · 06/03/2023 20:23

sst1234 · 06/03/2023 20:29

If you believe everything the govt tells you, perhaps stop being so gullible. Although that doesn’t excuse these corrupt morons from responsibility.

But if you seriously believed that locking yourself in your house or wearing a paper cloth over your face was the required course of action for an illness that for most people was no worse than flu, then perhaps sharpen your critical thinking skills. This very forum was full of shrieking hysterics from curtain twitchers asking if they should report their neighbour for taking their second walk of the day. Strangely enough, those morons are now complaining the loudest about the disastrous effects of Covid restrictions.

The public gets the leaders it deserves.

Paper is much harder to rig than electronic and as for who is monitoring, well the answer is loads of people and all with their own different political beliefs.

It would virtually be impossible to corrupt the amount of people required to even rig the result of just one MP.

How did they do that? All polling stations need to be accessible.

I completely disagree. Their attempts to deceive the public have been woefully transparent.

Exactly. Student ID and Freedom passes will not be accepted, yet the ID that older people have for transport will be accepted. Now, why would conservatives not want young people or people who've never had an ID that costs a lot of money voting? There is a free ID that councils are providing but you've got to apply with all the right papers and the take up has been minimal.

This is an example of how they actually rig it, along with changing boundaries. Rigging elections by the back door so to speak.
