To think our govt is capable of rigging an election

With everything in the news about what they pulled with and during covid, them acting as a bunch of Eton bully boys above the rules (let's face it they probably got up to all sorts at Eton to)...we litterally can't trust them any more surely ... surely they're capable of anything deceitful now...

What really scares me us that if there was a genuine pandemic like Ebola or anything deadly the public would be like yeah right, F Off, see you down the pub in half an hour!

The infrastructure of this country is crumbling but the Tories are trying to incite anger about asylum seekers in little boats.

As a previous poster said there's more than one way to rig an election.

Putting the News Director of GB News in charge of BBC News for example.

So the story isn't factual, it's designed to inflame

The cold facts are that this government could have stopped the boats at any time they wanted by creating safe legal routes with a processing centre in France.

They could end the asylum seeker hotels by processing their claims promptly.

^Instead they do the opposite.
^
Why?

Because people who have been whipped up and manipulated to be angry about asylum seekers aren't thinking about the Economy, Crime, the Environment, the NHS, Education, Corruption, Partygate, PPE VIP Lanes, Sewage in our beaches, and all the rest of it.

Yup

Conservatives who do not like the current government need to highlight the issue to their local parties and Tory MPs.

These are the same conservatives that are happy to look up, see Boris Johnson, and say "I'm happy to be in the same party as him" ?

Or different conservatives ?

Because right here, right now, the silence is deafening.

So if Labour win it’s not rigged but if Tories win it is.
I think labour need to get some policies out there if they want to win. Apparently they are going to get rid of the people traffickers- oh, yeah , that’s easy without sending sas or undercover inertia into other countries to ‘deal’ with them

Do you mean like the 4th periodic review which came into effect in time for the 1997 election when Labour won?

Or the 5th periodic review which also occurred during Labour's time in power?

Or the fact that the 6th review (Tory) wasn't acted upon even though (quick google only) it could have been beneficial to them and massively detrimental to the Lib Dems?

My main issue with voter ID is, from previously working as a poll clerk, you just know that you'll get the most belligerent fuckwits "forgetting" their ID at the most totally inconvenient time.

If there was going to be misconduct, you'd expect it to occur by way of postal and proxy votes but it doesn't so far appear to have been a problem.

As for the press it's all about perspective isn't it. Slightly worrying how a lot of posters don't sound overly confident that Labour can actually beat the NHS underfunding/despotic/racist/etc Tories regardless of gerrymandering that hasn't actually happened. Weak opposition benefits no one.

There are conservatives who don’t like the current party, yes.

Im thinking we don’t need to tar everyone with the same brush. For example, are all Labour voters Corbynites? No, clearly not.

Did Corbyn win an election based on lies, and then proceed to break the laws his own government forced the rest of us to obey ?

If so, I would question Labour party members who remain so as well.

Bearing in mind Boris Johnson is one of the more honest MPs to be a member of the conservatives.

If you don’t vote then you have zero engagement

If you don’t vote then don’t complain about what you get

Hmm, used to think the same. But since none of them actually take any notice when you vote for them - what precisely is the point? There are other ways to get attention, join a protest group, take direct action.. or simply spoil your ballot paper - they have to read it 😉

Genevieva · 12/03/2023 17:32

It depends whether you think the electoral commission is capable of doing its job. Elections are not organised by the party in government.

They're already posting out 'postal vote applications' and asking they're sent back to the Tories not the normal address

They did in in 2019 too. And knew the postal vote results in advance. Raab accidentally admitted it on air

Also in 2019 they they threw a lot of unaccounted for funds at political advertising in marginal areas like where I live. Ads appeared on every lamppost and telegraph pole on main roads. No details of who funded then on them. Totally against rules. The Tory squeaked in by a few hundred votes.

@Vanderlayinfustries ffs 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
