AIBU To Hope that Schools Do Not Book this Performer?

A trans cartoonist cartoonist called Sophie Labelle has had a couple of events cancelled on an upcoming tour due to serious concerns about safeguarding.

As recently as 2021 Sophie has produced ‘diaperfur art’ which is cartoons taken from real life pictures of other people’s babies and toddlers and sexualised them into art for men with a ‘diaper’ fetish.

This person was booked for a speaking event at Sheffield Library which was billed as family friendly, suitable for children and among others, at a Temperance pub. These events have now been cancelled after protest that they should have an 18 rating and it is certainly not suitable to have this person talking to kids (Sophie has also hosted a reading event for children in a sex shop in Finland, surrounded by sex toys).

As a snap back for the cancelled events, Sophie has claimed that Sophie has also been booked to talk at several middle schools in Scotland and that parents don’t know about them.

Bearing in mind that a Scottish school thought it was suitable to book a drag Queen called Flow Job to appear at a primary school with Mhairi Black (FJ also had some very questionable social media content)

AIBU to hope that Scottish schools would do their due diligence (the information is freely available) and not book such an unsuitable person?

Do any Scottish parents know of any ‘surprise’ guests scheduling at school events in the next month or so?

Update. Apologies I misunderstood the response from Sheffield Library - they just took down the advertising for the event but have not cancelled it or put any age restriction on.

This performer’s background is a huge red flag as someone who shouldn’t be talking to children.

YADNBU

Any search about this person's cartoons is enlightening .

nauticant · 22/02/2023 11:07

This is very much NSFW but if you look on Twitter under Sophie Labelle you'll find much that is alarming. Some of the images they've created are just screaming red flags.

ArabellaScott · 22/02/2023 11:46

Good god, no, YADNBU. It's bizarre that a council will defend this person staging a family event.

longwayoff · 22/02/2023 12:02

Contact Sheffield councils vulnerable persons unit or whatever it's called and tell them, nicely, the DMail will be your next call depending on their action1q. YANBU

Thank you, I will look into that .

I think MP Miriam Cates is in the case as well. She is quite formidable.

As a general point I am a bit concerned about the way the world seems to be going atm. In the UK this sort of issue is happening repeatedly and it is also occurring across the world.

I read this morning that a law in Australia has now been passed to allow babies into brothels!! Presumably if they are children of prostituted women but do they not know what sort of men use brothels? They are not all Richard Gere, some are depraved men who have to pay someone to satisfy their extreme sexual desires.

These are not places for children. How can a child effectively be kept safe when in close proximity with the sort of men that use brothers?

How are we going to wind this back? Hoe do we convince Sheffield Library that it is not suitable to advertise a talk that is ‘family friendly’ with a person who takes children’s pictures off the internet and uses them to generate comic material to satisfy mens sexual fetishes?

How would parents on here feel if the image of one of their kids turned up in this persons work?

Well, the other thread on this just got deleted. Someone probably used the word 'woman'.

Jellycatspyjamas · 22/02/2023 23:11

I’d be interested to know which middle schools she’s visiting in Scotland, given we don’t have middle schools.

Happylittlechicken · 23/02/2023 05:00

Do the people organising these events not Google people or do any research before booking them? FML, this person is a fetishist who uses babies for his kink. And has no shame in it. Plus his art is crap, traced and derivative.

Clymene · 23/02/2023 05:46

Labelle is due to speak at Strathclyde university SU today

Blurb doesn't mention the diaperfur art allevents.in/glasgow/sophie-labelle-at-strathclyde-u-glasgow-the-trans-agenda-speaking-tour/200024001488656

This was what I was curious about - is Sophie just trying to wind parents up by implying that Sophie will be talking to kids in schools without their knowledge but not actually doing it or have there been schools with such a safeguarding free approach that they’ve actually booked this person?

Have any Scottish parents heard of unspecified or surprise speakers coming up their kids school? If this person was anywhere near a school it would be a serious concern given their open expression of sexual fetish, promotion of ‘trans joy’ and lack of boundaries around children?

Can you please show us which state in Australia has passed an actual law 'allowing' babies in brothels? I've not heard of such a 'law' and google has failed me.

lazycats · 23/02/2023 08:39

I had a bet with myself before opening the thread that this would concern a trans person. Looks like I won.

BibbleandSqwauk · 23/02/2023 08:52

@lazycats But the op is concerned about the person's art. She hasn't mentioned their trans identity other than to explain who they are. The other trans people mentioned are drag queens who also have questionable issues in relation to children. ANY children's speaker who created such art would be problematic.

Excellent. Would you like to engage in the actual topic to hand? A male with a nappy fetish who draws cartoons with children that are inappropriate being hosted for a ‘family’ session in Sheffield?

Can you explain whether you support this individual being hosted for an event involving children?

Ah we should apply safeguarding principles to every adult who has a history of producing serialised images of babies, and meeting children surrounded by sex toys - except when they say they are trans in which case crack on with it, nothing to see here?

ArabellaScott · 23/02/2023 09:18

The Prostasia Foundation have come out in defence of Sophie Labelle.

twitter.com/ProstasiaInc/status/1628448534180646916?cxt=HHwWiMC-7YvUtJktAAAA

'Transphobic attacks have blown up against trans cartoonist Sophie Labelle during her current UK tour. Labelle is one of few public figures who openly talks about being trans, a furry, and a little.'

Jellycatspyjamas · 23/02/2023 09:19

I haven’t heard anything but I’ll keep an ear out. Nothing would surprise me in Scottish schools just now.

MissyB1 · 23/02/2023 09:29

talks about being a Trans, a furry, and a little

What on earth is a “furry” or a “little” ???

talks about being a Trans, a furry, and a little

What on earth is a “furry” or a “little” ???

I will explain to the best of my ability - please do google to check my definitions, but also take care googling some of these terms:

A 'furry'

Someone who wears a fursuit to pretend to be a sort of cartoon animal.

A 'little'

Someone who pretends to be a baby or infant. Associated with submissive behaviour, as in BDSM.

A 'diaperfur'

An adult who wears nappies for pleasure while dressed in a fursuit.

Helleofabore · 23/02/2023 09:51

A furry is someone who identifies as a furry animal or cartoon character for sex. It is a fetish.

A little is a person who identifies as a baby or a child, usually as a girl baby or child when they are male. It is a fetish.

A little can be the sex partner in a thruple, where they all have sex. while in character.

i think I have that correct?

We are moving to such a sexualised society, nothing is sacred anymore, who is advocating for all these removals of safeguarding for children.
