AIBU To Hope that Schools Do Not Book this Performer?

A trans cartoonist cartoonist called Sophie Labelle has had a couple of events cancelled on an upcoming tour due to serious concerns about safeguarding.

As recently as 2021 Sophie has produced ‘diaperfur art’ which is cartoons taken from real life pictures of other people’s babies and toddlers and sexualised them into art for men with a ‘diaper’ fetish.

This person was booked for a speaking event at Sheffield Library which was billed as family friendly, suitable for children and among others, at a Temperance pub. These events have now been cancelled after protest that they should have an 18 rating and it is certainly not suitable to have this person talking to kids (Sophie has also hosted a reading event for children in a sex shop in Finland, surrounded by sex toys).

As a snap back for the cancelled events, Sophie has claimed that Sophie has also been booked to talk at several middle schools in Scotland and that parents don’t know about them.

Bearing in mind that a Scottish school thought it was suitable to book a drag Queen called Flow Job to appear at a primary school with Mhairi Black (FJ also had some very questionable social media content)

AIBU to hope that Scottish schools would do their due diligence (the information is freely available) and not book such an unsuitable person?

Do any Scottish parents know of any ‘surprise’ guests scheduling at school events in the next month or so?

Sorry, hit return.

The tour continues throughout the UK all week.

YouSetTheTone · 23/02/2023 10:13

Is this the Queer theory endgame - normalising public display of fetishes so that people are too confused to object to what would once have been a clear instance of red flags, or too worried about being accused of being a ‘bigot’ for objecting?

BibbleandSqwauk · 23/02/2023 10:16

@tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz no one has "kink shamed" but what consenting adults choose to do privately is not the same as linking it with childrens' activities. Regardless of what the current Sex Ed guidance is, primary school kids do not need to know about the full range of adult sexual behaviour.

maddy68 · 23/02/2023 10:26

I would want to know more detail. Art is art whether you like or not but certain art should not be labeled as family friendly.

As for the fact she put on a show in a sex shop in Finland. Other countries have a much more liberal view to sex and it isn't taboo. I remember being in a sex museum in Amsterdam and lots of local families bwere there reading the plaques out to their children.

Or perhaps there is
no mention about this kind of art and it's a talk about putting on successful events etc so I would be ok with that. I doubt anyone going to such a thing wouldn't Google the person they were going to listen to

There are no middle schools in Scotland so that clearly isn't happening. So there is definitely some biased reporting going on.

ArabellaScott · 23/02/2023 10:32

the 'middle schools' comment was from Sophie. It related to the UK tour. I agree that it might not be true.

Hey Bibble sorry I was being naughty and pre empting certain posters who will soon pop along on the Be Kind bus to tell us off Grin Like hell are we kink shaming.

FictionalCharacter · 23/02/2023 10:38

They probably did due diligence and decide to go ahead. This is the way things are going now.

ArabellaScott · 23/02/2023 10:44

Sheffield Library say they have done checks and have 'no safeguarding concerns'.

So family events with someone who makes artwork involving 'adult babies' and 'diaperfur' is presumably considered acceptable to Sheffield council.

MichelleScarn · 23/02/2023 10:46

So as long as shit like this is labelled 'art' and NOT 'family friendly' you think it's fine?

Yes. Art is supposed to shock and raise discussion. Thats the point

MichelleScarn · 23/02/2023 10:49

Even if its paedophilia and exploits vulnerable babies and children?

NeedToChangeName · 23/02/2023 10:51

In Glasgow tonight, Edinburgh tomorrow. No mention of school visits, but I guess they wouldn't be advertised online

I will explain to the best of my ability - please do google to check my definitions, but also take care googling some of these terms:

A 'furry'

Someone who wears a fursuit to pretend to be a sort of cartoon animal.

A 'little'

Someone who pretends to be a baby or infant. Associated with submissive behaviour, as in BDSM.

A 'diaperfur'

An adult who wears nappies for pleasure while dressed in a fursuit.

Dear God! I don’t know what to say……

Hmm. Yeah if the shock is child-prn and the discussion is what do you think of it, I dunno if i'm into this 'art'.

I couldn’t quite with out your double negatives but this is part of the problem. This person’s sexual fetish that involves images of small children is in the public domain. Even if Sophie doesn’t specifically talk about that specific type of image (although we don’t know if it will be included or not) then interested kids will be able to search and easily find Sophie’s work.

It constantly amazes (and scares) me that there are people who there who literally can’t see an issue with having someone who makes fetish drawings of toddlers for men to masturbate to (scuse my language), speaking at a ‘family friendly’ event.

This person has attempted (successfully looking at the reactions of some) to normalise the involvement of children in their sexual fetish. We know that with fetishes there is often an escalation of behaviour once the initial thrill wears off.

This is not ok for a library to be promoting as a public event.

Can you please show us which state in Australia has passed an actual law 'allowing' babies in brothels? I've not heard of such a 'law' and google has failed me.

It was in the state of Victoria and has been highlighted in the maiden speech of Moira Deeming as a serious concern for the welfare of children.

Babies up to 18 months are allowed to be in brothels where men pay to have sex with women - what could possibly go wrong?

Art can shock. Just because something is shocking, doesn't make it art.

borntobequiet · 23/02/2023 14:09

Yes. Art is supposed to shock and raise discussion. Thats the point

I’ve never really bought into this view of art. I think it’s relatively modern.
Just because some people are shocked by some art (for example, the early Impressionists) and discuss it doesn’t mean that that’s the point of it.
Far more people ignore art entirely. Perhaps its main function is to be ignored, or possibly to bore people.

ArabellaScott · 23/02/2023 14:17

Art has many functions. Some art shocks. But it's certainly not the only function of art, nor does all art do this or seek to do this. It's a pretty flimsy and silly idea that shock is the function of art.

@maddy68

Great. So when our kids hear they're getting a speaker coming into assembly, they will be able to Google Sophie Labelle and be able to view their paedophilic 'art'?

Is that the point you wanted to make?

ArabellaScott · 23/02/2023 18:15

Yes, probably best if youngsters don't google any of the terms Sophie is so proud of representing.

I think art is usually supposed to provoke more profound and searching questions than "what sort of a horror show is this pervert?".

stbrandonsboat · 23/02/2023 19:37

I feel like I'm living in a cesspit 🤮

The next push will be for the denial of the reality of age. Parents will be vilified for objecting when one of these vile characters persuades an eight year old that they're really 18 and ready to have sex.

YouJane · 23/02/2023 23:31

And that the person they're ready to have sex with is also 18 and not, in reality, a middle aged man.
Just vile, isn't it. That's the ultimate goal of the TRA's, to normalize the sexualisation of children. They say 'oh, kids are kinky! Kids are queer!' And tell us toddlers know their gender identity to introduce the concept of babies having the agency to make adult decisions. It's all about silencing/punishing women so they can get to the kids; two birds with one stone.
And unfortunately, they have many women on board! I saw a video of a woman who was transitioning her 18 month old because he liked 'girls toys' and didn't want to wear his baseball uniform. 'We couldn't ignore it any longer.' She said. An 18 MONTH OLD. Insanity.

@MissyB1

Dear God! I don’t know what to say……

I think that after rinsing the vomit from your mouth:

Where are the pitchforks and blazing torches?!

Unfortunately, I made the mistake of following a link, on another thread, to some of the vile doodlings this vile creature has produced. The cartoons have captions and speech bubbles.

How this evident pervert has passed any database checks, or is considered suitable to interact with children, by any normal person is a complete mystery to me.
