To ask why Alice in Wonderland isn't a Disney Princess ?

Very stupid question, but was talking about this with a friend.

Cinderella, Elsa, Snow White, Belle, Sleeping Beauty, Pochohontus, Belle , Mulan are all over the Disney princesses/ merchandise promotions ? Why is Alice from Alice in Wonderland ignored? xxx

She's not a princess. I think you could argue the others are.

Seeline · 17/02/2023 09:35

Because she isn't a princess, just an ordinary girl?

Iguessyourestuckwithme · 17/02/2023 09:36

Pocahontas and Mulan aren't disney princesses

Alice isn't a princess because she wasn't a princess nor did she marry a Prince.

phoenixrosehere · 17/02/2023 09:38

She is not a princess by birth, by marriage, or did a heroic deed worthy of being considered a Disney Princess.

Correct me if I’m wrong, wasn’t everything that Alice did in her head?

Hoardasurass · 17/02/2023 09:38

She's not a princess nor married to prince all of the other characters in your are or are married to a prince list Alice is not

WandaWonder · 17/02/2023 09:38

Because she has taste?

JMSA · 17/02/2023 09:39

She doesn't have a princessy vibe.

Milan is a Disney Princess. Pocahontas was the Princess of her tribe being the chief’s daughter.

MissWings · 17/02/2023 09:40

Alice was a bit mentally ill. I love Alice.

DogSaysWoof · 17/02/2023 09:40

Maybe a part of it is that Alice isn't a Disney Property? Lewis Carol wasn't it? Back in the 1800s..

I think the other princesses are Disney inventions, albeit influenced by real people.

Jimboscott0115 · 17/02/2023 09:42

Alice has two things against her Princess credentials in Disney speak - she's from a pre existing book rather than a cultural/historical tale by disney or a fairy tale/folklore story Disney has adapted.

id also argue that Alice is very much a child rather than a young woman like the other princesses.

Keyansier · 17/02/2023 09:42

Elsa isn't a Disney princess either FYI.

MelaniesFlowers · 17/02/2023 09:43

Because she isn’t a princess.

There is a very strict criteria on who can count as a Disney Princess.

ShowOfHands · 17/02/2023 09:43

Alice isn't a princess but she is used on clothing, pencil cases, artwork and so on. Even Primark does Alice clothing ranges.

Y11 DD loves some of the alternative Alice artwork and has several jewellery items with Alice motifs.

Isthisexpected · 17/02/2023 09:43

Alice in Wonderland is a novel, nothing to do with Disney, about a young girl's imagination. The character wasn't a descendant of royalty.

BooCrew · 17/02/2023 09:44

It might be due to copyright, as Alice isn't owned by Disney. The estate of Lewis Carroll would be able to stipulate what Disney do with her image.

Snow White, Beauty (Belle), Cinderella and most others were not Disney inventions.
They have few original stories.

musicalfrog · 17/02/2023 09:47

Fascinating debate!

WhisperingAutistic · 17/02/2023 09:48

There is a whole section dedicated to Alice on the Disney Store. As a pp says, she's on clothes in Primark and lots of other websites.
I don't think she's ignored at all. She has a bit of a cult following if anything.

GlassBunion · 17/02/2023 09:49

Alice in Wonderland was made into an animated film by Disney in 1951.

donttellmehesalive · 17/02/2023 09:50

Because she's a book character who is an ordinary girl, not a princess.

The others are either princesses in the original literature, or have been invented by Disney so they can do what they want.

GlassBunion · 17/02/2023 09:52

Oh and Pocahontas is real. She was titled Princess Matoaka and is buried in Gravesend.

Nightynightnight · 17/02/2023 09:53

She's not seen as a Disney princess because she's not a princess and because she is a child. However she has been disneyfied. There are Alice themed attractions at Disneyland Paris for example.

louise5754 · 17/02/2023 09:54

That's like asking why Maria in aristocrats isn't a princess? Well because she's a cat.

SpinningFloppa · 17/02/2023 09:55

I disagree that she’s ignored, in the film she was just an ordinary girl that’s why she wasn’t a princess but there is lots of Alice in wonderland stuff direct.asda.com/george/toys-character/disney-shop/D30M7G2C4,default,sc.html?cgid=D30M7G2C4&prefn1=licence&prefv1=Alice%20in%20Wonderland She’s my favourite Disney character!
