To ask why Alice in Wonderland isn't a Disney Princess ?

bluelollipop99 · 17/02/2023 09:33

Very stupid question, but was talking about this with a friend.

Cinderella, Elsa, Snow White, Belle, Sleeping Beauty, Pochohontus, Belle , Mulan are all over the Disney princesses/ merchandise promotions ? Why is Alice from Alice in Wonderland ignored? xxx

I've seen loads of (Disney version) Alice merchandise.
You can even get her as one of the Disney Lego minifigs.

NellietheElephantpackedhertrunks · 17/02/2023 09:56

Because 1. she’s not a Disney character and 2. she’s not a princess. HTH

stbrandonsboat · 17/02/2023 09:56

I suspect that it is probably because she was on drugs and spent her time grubbing around in the garden.

monkeysmum21 · 17/02/2023 09:57

Because if she was one of them, she would loose her awesomeness!

Elsa isn't a Disney princess either FYI.

Why when her parents are king and queen?

toodlesofoodles · 17/02/2023 09:58

Asda has a gorgeous range of Alice tea ware atm, teapot, cups, milk jug etc

She's not a princess because she's not a princess but there is TONS of Alice merch around.

louise5754 · 17/02/2023 09:58

Why when her parents are king and queen?

Because she became Queen herself as her parents died.

louise5754 · 17/02/2023 10:00

I don't think Mulan is a princess?

Alice in Wonderland (cartoon) is my favorite Disney film.

Plus she like a drink or 2.

I don't think Mulan is a princess?

She's not. She's classed as an Honorary princess.
She did marry a prince in Mulan 2 but that's not classed as 'canon'.

TheObstinateHeadstrongGirl · 17/02/2023 10:08

Because she is t the daughter of a king or Queen, nor is she the wife or love interest of a prince. Duh

louise5754 · 17/02/2023 10:11

@WhisperingAutistic Oh I haven't seen

There are strict rules about who is a disney princess

  1. They have to be human or mostly human (Arial)
  2. They have to be royal or marry into Royalty
  3. They have to be the main person in their movie
  4. They have to have perfomed a great herioc act (This is so Mulan can be included)

Interetingly Anna and Elsa are aren't part of the Disney princess collection because Frozen is it's own franchise, i.e. Disney sell enough Frozen merch so there is no need to include Anna and Elsa with the Princesses.

So Alice fails the test based on No. 2.

I learned all this from the Supercarlan brothers youtue channel. BTW

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 17/02/2023 10:20

Technically Elsa is a Queen and Anna is the princess.

Pocahontas is the equivalent if whatever her tribe would call its leaders daughter.

Mulan is not a princess. Her dad is ex army not royal/tribe leader.

Alice is a child, no royal ancestry.

Fink · 17/02/2023 10:34

They have an official list of who is and isn't a Disney princess (more than you originally named). It's never been entirely clear to me how they make the cut; it's definitely not royals only because they used to have Esmeralda from Hunchback of Notre Dame and Jane from Tarzan in the list (both have now been dropped) and even Mary Poppins was under discussion. It's largely enough to be the protagonist or deuteragonist regardless of royal status. Anna and Elsa aren't official Disney princesses because Frozen has its own merch and franchise separate from the Disney princess line up. Conversely, others have been dropped for not being successful enough (Eilowny from the Black Cauldron) Nala from the Lion King and Maid Marian aren't official princesses because they're not human.

If I were to guess, I'd say that it's because Alice is so obviously a child, whereas the other princesses are either actually adults or are at least given adult-themed lives (especially romance and marriage). There are exceptions, such as Moana, but even she has a real adventure suitable for an adult, whereas Alice very defintely has a child's dream.

Svalberg · 17/02/2023 10:37

@Fink Tinkerbelle used to be a princess but got demoted too - I never knew the rules on being a Disney princess, so tanks everyone!

JudyGeller · 17/02/2023 10:44

Elsa is not a princess, she is a queen because their mum and dad died ( she has her own coronation in the first Frozen to become queen ) then Anna becomes a queen in her own right in Frozen II which is why they are not on any Disney princess merchandise anymore.

Fink · 17/02/2023 10:45

@Svalberg I think Tinkerbell actually got promoted rather than demoted. Like Elsa and Anna she's now part of a separate franchise: she heads up the fairies.

Technically both Elsa and Anna are queens thanks to Frozen 2. Just sayin'...

Because she has taste?

😂 Yes!

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 17/02/2023 10:49

I suppose. Anna was queen for about the last 3 minutes of Frozen 2. Touché.

Wonnle · 17/02/2023 11:11

Why isn't Sam Smith one as well ?
