To think The Fox and The Hound is the worst Disney movie

Even now more than 30ish years since I first watched this stupid film (I'm 40) I hate the ending with a passion that really should be invested in something more worthy.

DS has just sent me a "cute" tiktok of little Todd and Copper being all like always friends forever and no they bloody wont. Just listening the their stupid voices saying it has me back in tears. And to say that phrase at the end of the film as it fades away after Copper couldn't even apologise for being the worst friend in existence (a smile after stepping in front of a gun he knew would never shoot him whilst Todd fought an ACTUAL BEAR for him) bleugh.

I watch Disney for the happy endings. I know there is going to be something brutal at the beginning but the ending is supposed to resolve all the issues so they can live happily ever after. I appreciate they probably each happy individually but they are not always friends forever which was the whole point of the stupid movie.

Worst. Disney. Movie. Ever.

AIBU to think there is no way you can name a worse one?

Another vote for Tarzan being a pile of shit.

Awful movie. Dumbo's "baby mine" scene upsets me immensely as well.

Not Disney but the 1978 version of Watership down was horrifying. Utterly traumatised me.

Aaaah, "baby mine". My OH put just that scene on the other day as its the only film that made him cry as a child and we both sobbed afterwards (and neither of us are criers).

TinaYouFatLard · 10/02/2023 17:19

Goodbye may seem forever. Farewell is like the end. But in my heart’s the memory, and there you’ll always be.

Now I’m fucking crying again.

I know!! My DM mentioned pinocchio recently and I shuddered. She looked confused and "but you loved that film as a kid..." "I ABSOLUTELY DID NOT IT WAS HORRIFYING" "what? What's wrong with it?"

I brought up the donkey scene on YouTube and her face was Shock

evidently she'd plonked me in front of it and never actually seen it herself Grin

The fox and the hound is so sad. Have to say nothing will ever be worse than bambi for me though! Not just the mum dying (which was my first shock death as a child) but it's boring AF!

The donkey scene is horrific Sad

Only Disney could turn human trafficking into a film for children Confused

phlebasconsidered · 10/02/2023 17:30

70's Disney is fab. The brutality of Tood and Copper's ruptured froendship is the least of it. The Rescuers is child abduction and labour. The Aristocats is just bizarre but also about animal abuse and pensioner exploitation. Robin Hood is brilliant though! They also did some full on bonkers live films. Candleshoe has Jodie Foster and David Niven and is still excellent.

EsmeSusanOgg · 10/02/2023 17:49

I loved it as a kid... But surely Black Cauldron is a worse film?

FixItUpChappie · 10/02/2023 17:56

This was my favourite Disney movie when I was a kid - I found the bear thrilling maybe…? I’m not sure why but my parent hated it. I agree in hindsight it’s depressing 🤣

BaroldFromEastenders · 10/02/2023 16:10

His name is Quasimodo 😂 that’s one of my favourite Disney films

Fuck me, why did I write Frodo 🤣

FixItUpChappie · 11/02/2023 04:28

The worst Disney film is without a doubt Return to Oz.

Return to Oz if without a doubt of of the BEST Disney movies. Love it, watched it recently and I still love it. Creepy as fuck though Grin

AngeloMysterioso · 11/02/2023 04:33

I mean if you scratch the surface even slightly you will find that most Disney movies and/or the stories that they’re based on are really quite fucked up.

PaulHeymanHairline · 11/02/2023 04:55

@TibetanTerrah 'my names Alexander... and I want my momma!'

''I mean if you scratch the surface even slightly you will find that most Disney movies and/or the stories that they’re based on are really quite fucked up.''

THIS

take the little mermaid
On her new legs it was like waking 100s of needles - and then

Spoiler alert.

She died at the end - froth on the sea - forget the bit about the dagger her sisters gave her (after cutting off their beautiful hair to procure it). Which she refuse to plunge into her true love's heart.
Unrequited love I may add.

Fairly Tales are horrific
Take a proper look at Grimms Fairy tails.
Not sure what we were trying to do to our kids back in the day

IHeartGeneHunt · 11/02/2023 07:00

Frozen is the worst because it's absolute shite, nobody has lips, the story is terrible (what there is of it) and why do the girls have different accents to their parents?
I don't mind Fox and the Hound. The best however is Lilo and Stitch.

ElizaGumpyLeg · 11/02/2023 07:02

Most Disney movies in the past decade are worse by far. Frozen 2, Moana, Coco

Oh and Frozen is the most overrated movie of all time. There I said it.

TheWitchersWife · 11/02/2023 07:32

The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Pocohontas are both quite depressing. Poor Frodo gets overthrown by Esmerelda for Phoebus the hot blonde guy.

Okay, hear me out. I read something the other day about how Quasimodo saw Esmerelda as a saviour and Frollo just desired her. Whereas Phoebus saw her exactly as she was.
Quasimodo and Esmerelda probably wouldn't work as a couple because Quasimodo sees her as angelic, and he puts her on a pedestal that is not healthy for a romantic relationship. Placing any human on that high a pedestal will lead to disappointment.
Her personality matched Phoebus' and they just fit together, not because of how he looked.

And i think Frollo and Quasimodo just got pushed together in your head to make Frodo 😅

I luffs the Tarzan movie, especially the Phil Collins soundrack.
Never saw appeal of Fox & Hound, obviously meant to be very sad.
Yes foxes were hunted in USA. Not like F&H has plummy toffs in red coats on horseback (does it?)

Cosmicdreams · 11/02/2023 08:12

SalmonEile · 10/02/2023 16:01

I agree with Tarzan being the worst it was just so try hard

with the fox and the hound - I dunno I always took it that Todd and Copper couldn’t be friends in the world they lived in but would always think fondly of each other in their hearts or some shite I don’t know

now if any Lilo and Stitch fans want to be broken look up the anime Stitch! where it turns out Lilo grows up and inadvertently abandons Stitch
no one gets left behind indeed.
(it’s not considered canon)

I've watched the bits of the anime. Lilo finds stitch in the end and introduces him to her daughter and stitch thinks she's lilo 😢. That was soul destroying.

TheGuv1982 · 11/02/2023 09:27

The Rise of Skywalker. The culmination of a trilogy so bad I can only imagine that it was sabotage.

I just looked it up to refresh my memory and apparently it's based on a book - in which animals die of rabies, Tod's cubs get GASSED, and Copper chases Tod until he dies of exhaustion?! wtaf

It's worse than that. The farmer gasses Tod's first kids and partner. Then lures and kills his second. When rabies strikes. The farmer puts down poison which kills lots of pets and a child. And after Tod has died, the farmer goes to an old folks home, but first shoots his dog.

I think this is what happened, rather than me replacing a "hunchback" with a hobbit. Hahaha.

I get it, but... it's just the way he sort of shrugs and accepts that he's too ugly to be anything but the town mascot.

Better than the sickly sweet later Disney films.

Agreed!

Disney was decent in its original era (1930s-60s), in their 90s comeback, and even stuff as recent as the Frog Princess, Tangled, Brave, Frozen and Moana. However, in the last 5 years or so, it has been woke agenda and Disney has been tanking on the stock market because of this. They need to shift up a gear and go back to the early 10s era (Tangled etc) or 90s era (Aladdin/Lion King).

As for the OP's choice (Fox/Hound), I would say a lot of the Disney sequels are pretty bad. E.g. Return to Neverland. Too washed out compared to the original.

DashboardConfessional · 11/02/2023 18:11

it has been woke agenda

What do you mean?

InBerlin · 11/02/2023 18:14

All the Disney trauma made me stop eating meat. I didn't want to grow up to be the baddie I hated.

PumpkinDart · 11/02/2023 19:42

Yep this is the ultimate for me, I wanted to go see Power Rangers the film but was made to go and watch the Fox and the Hound. So traumatic.

Up there with-

The Hunchback of Notre Dame
Dumbo
Pinocchio
Bambi

Robin233 · 11/02/2023 19:55

@TrickorTreacle
Yes all great films, the 90's Disney come back:

Beauty and Beast
The little Mermaid
The Lion King
Aladdin.
