To think The Fox and The Hound is the worst Disney movie

Even now more than 30ish years since I first watched this stupid film (I'm 40) I hate the ending with a passion that really should be invested in something more worthy.

DS has just sent me a "cute" tiktok of little Todd and Copper being all like always friends forever and no they bloody wont. Just listening the their stupid voices saying it has me back in tears. And to say that phrase at the end of the film as it fades away after Copper couldn't even apologise for being the worst friend in existence (a smile after stepping in front of a gun he knew would never shoot him whilst Todd fought an ACTUAL BEAR for him) bleugh.

I watch Disney for the happy endings. I know there is going to be something brutal at the beginning but the ending is supposed to resolve all the issues so they can live happily ever after. I appreciate they probably each happy individually but they are not always friends forever which was the whole point of the stupid movie.

Worst. Disney. Movie. Ever.

AIBU to think there is no way you can name a worse one?

Awful movie. Dumbo's "baby mine" scene upsets me immensely as well.

Not Disney but the 1978 version of Watership down was horrifying. Utterly traumatised me.

FGS I just voted in my own poll and 74% of you absolute fools think I am being unreasonable.

Let me be clear this is not a thread where I will take on board comments and be like YIABU This is a hill I will die on.

@WetBandits Yes that bit is horrible too. The whole film is rubbish, but you are off your rocker to watch it again thinking it wouldn't make you cry!!

The lesser known Disneys are pretty crap. I always remember (and hated) watching The Rescuers and Basil The Great Mouse Detective in the 80s. Yawn!

DashboardConfessional · 10/02/2023 15:44

The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Pocohontas are both quite depressing. Poor Frodo gets overthrown by Esmerelda for Phoebus the hot blonde guy and John Smith pisses off back to England!

elm26 · 10/02/2023 15:54

If ever I was naughty whilst little my mum would threaten to put this on as I watched it once and it was horrendous and I cried for hours. I'll never let my daughter watch it x

Those were some of my favourite Disney movies as a kid though nothing beat Fantasia for me.

Diddlediddlehey · 10/02/2023 15:58

I quite liked the first one - although the little old lady scene always had me sobbing.

I didn't enjoy the second one or any of the 80s/90s sequels...or 1/2s (lion King!) No idea why they wanted to spoil bambi or lady & the tramp with a awful follow up.

skingraft · 10/02/2023 16:00

Is The Brave Little Toaster a Disney film?

weird childhood film I had on vhs! Some very disturbing scenes and songs.

SalmonEile · 10/02/2023 16:01

I agree with Tarzan being the worst it was just so try hard

with the fox and the hound - I dunno I always took it that Todd and Copper couldn’t be friends in the world they lived in but would always think fondly of each other in their hearts or some shite I don’t know

now if any Lilo and Stitch fans want to be broken look up the anime Stitch! where it turns out Lilo grows up and inadvertently abandons Stitch
no one gets left behind indeed.
(it’s not considered canon)

Lion king 2 was a mess they should’ve just made Kovu scars son and left out the love story completely. A story about two cousins trying to reunite their broken family would’ve been perfectly fine!

Mulan 2 is diabolical to the point it’s almost like a spoof

Fantasia is stunning! DP and I came home a bit drunk recently and I insisted we watch it 😂

Ponoka7 · 10/02/2023 16:08

It's based on the belstone fox, so couldn't have a happy ending. Watch the original and ring of brightwater.

qwertyy1234 · 10/02/2023 16:09

The hunchback of notre dame is pretty traumatising too but in a totally different way! His mum being killed, him being disfigured and ridiculed for his whole life. I refuse to watch it as an adult as I just remember the trauma and lot of upsetting scenes

His name is Quasimodo 😂 that’s one of my favourite Disney films

FionnulaTheCooler · 10/02/2023 16:10

The worst Disney film is without a doubt Return to Oz. The headless woman and those things with wheels for hands traumatised me as a child, it's seriously creepy for a kids film.

Robin233 · 10/02/2023 16:30

Pinocchio for me - when the boys were transformed into donkeys for the mine.......ugh

Dotjones · 10/02/2023 16:32

Wow, surprised people don't think that Song of the South is the worst Disney film. It's basically an advert for white supremacy.

I don't think you can buy it any more so people don't tend to have seen it - I have it on VHS and just remember it being boring (too young to appreciate how insanely racist it is).

omg and the talking chicken? The moose head thing? Tiktok the creepy deadeyed robot?! AHHHH. I actually think the Pumpkinhead thing is scarier than Princess Mombi.

I know!! My DM mentioned pinocchio recently and I shuddered. She looked confused and "but you loved that film as a kid..." "I ABSOLUTELY DID NOT IT WAS HORRIFYING" "what? What's wrong with it?"

I brought up the donkey scene on YouTube and her face was Shock

evidently she'd plonked me in front of it and never actually seen it herself Grin

The fox and the hound is so sad. Have to say nothing will ever be worse than bambi for me though! Not just the mum dying (which was my first shock death as a child) but it's boring AF!

InTheFutilityRoomEatingBiscuits · 10/02/2023 16:43

Nope.

TRON

I remember losing Christmas Day afternoon one year to the adults insisting we watch TRON

oooh so futuristic

Utter Shit

MarkWithaC · 10/02/2023 16:45

This was 'my' Disney film, the first one I got taken to the cinema to see. I was about six and haven't seen it since. I don't think I could bear to; I remember finding it devastating .The bit where they say 'We'l be friends for ever and ever... won't we?'
It's making me tear up just thinking about it Grin

I love Lady and the Tramp (Peggy Lee!) and The Jungle Book.

ladymalfoy45 · 10/02/2023 16:45

The Secret of Nhym.

Buffypaws · 10/02/2023 17:08

Ok I’m finished and copper was a twat imo.

I agree with the pp who thought Pinocchio and dumbo were the most disturbing. Not sure which is worse but the little boys turning into donkeys was terrifying as was the treatment of mrs jumbo.
