Does this travel cup exist?

crochetmonkey74 · 07/02/2023 12:14

I need a travel cup that keeps everything really hot- but crucially, completely seals so I can carry it in my backpack
Currently I am using my chillys bottle as a flask as it totally seals and doesn't spill but its too hard to drink a hot drink out of a bottle.
I have googled previously and bought a few different ones but they have all leaked

Is there such a travel cup that totally seals and can be in a backpack for a commute- and still hot when I get to my desk at work?

All help gratefully received!

I've got a bodum one but the screw top lid not the flip top. Never had a leak and until I dropped and badly dented it, it kept my cup of coffee hot for hours 😅

Contigo. Using my 5 year old contigo autoseal right now. Dh a d I both have them bought at the same time and still no less and dh one is not treated well at all.

OneTC · 07/02/2023 14:44

They all look so ugly and they're mostly horrible to drink from.

I prefer a flask and a nicer cup.

I have a 6oz joco glass and a 500ml ion flask

@pattihews just when I was thinking this AIBU was going well..

Wtf is wrong with a flask - well, first- apart from the harshness of the way you've phrased it- I do not have a flask and am currently using a bottle and separate cup set up which isn't working at all. I am completely capable of knowing what I need - and it has nothing to do with influencers or branding

Another vote for the Contigo Byron Snapseal.

370° Coffee Cup on Amazon, the coloured coating peeled off in the dishwasher but it's brilliant!

WonderingWanda · 07/02/2023 14:50

Sorry 720° Coffee cup....no idea why I typed it incorrectly.

Primus stainless steel ones are leakproof and keep it almost too hot

Ah, I see. It's the look of the thing that matters. Influencers, branding...

Could you be possibly be any more condescending?

I didn't buy my Contigo cup for £7 from Tesco because someone from Love Island once waved one around for a fiver. I bought it because it said it was leakproof and a nice colour.

The fashionable kids here have switched from Yeti to Stanley.

Another contigo (west loop) vote. Bit expensive so I had my eye on one for ages and was so pleased when I finally got it. I chuck it in a bag and have never had a leak.

It did get manky inside but I bought some astonish powder and it was amazing! All this brown gunk came straight off, no scrubbing. Id spent ages soaking/scrubbing with bicarb so this stuff was like a miracle!

Flasks don't work for me either. I can't follow DS around the park with an open cup, nor can I walk from the train station to work with a literal mug in one hand and the flask in the other!

Noodlekugel · 07/02/2023 15:17

Bought Contigo west loop in 2015 - stainless steel finish. Used most days - goes in the dishwasher - falls on its side in my bag but no leaks.

I know this is going to sound very old school, but wtf is wrong with a flask? I have a fabulous small Tefal vacuum flask that, if you heat it up with hot water before pouring your drink in, remains very hot for hours afterwards. It doesn't leak and it comes with it's own little cup. It's metal and when in 30 years time you decide to junk it, it can be recycled.

What an aggressive tone for a thread about cups Confused

I don't use a flask because on the occasions I'm using a travel cup, I'm - you know - travelling. I'm in the car or going into meetings or generally on the go, so it would be impractical (and a bit weird) to faff about with a picnic flask. I'm not a park ranger.

OP, I also have a Contigo and really like it. I only bought it because it looked sturdy and was on offer in Tesco, so I'm pleased to see so many votes for the brand!

FlickyCrumble · 07/02/2023 15:47

Contigo is the best for non leaking and we all use this in our home. but Thermos screw cap with flip lid, has the edge on keeping coffee as hot at 7pm as it would be at 6am. Regular sips throughout the day bring it warm at around 5/6pm. I bloody love it. Neither brands leak and both relatively easy to clean. Avoid straws.

JennyDarlingRIP · 07/02/2023 15:52

Contigo west loop auto seal. Keeps drinks really hot (DH says it makes them hotter despite this not being possible). We've had ours about 5 years, mine is still in good condition but DHs has been dropped, dented, flung off a moving bike several times, fallen off the roof of the car when he's driven off, it looks like it's been through a warzone, BUT it still works perfectly keeps drinks piping hot, locked and slung in a back pack not a single drop of a leak.

MotherWol · 07/02/2023 15:52

Thermos direct drink - it has a lid you can sip through, or you can pour into a cup. Doesn't leak, even when I toss it in my bike pannier and cycle over potholes.

SharkVega · 07/02/2023 15:53

I have a couple of contigos that are at least 8 years old now. I used to make a coffee at home before chucking it in my bag and biking to work. Washed in the dishwasher.

It's not as effective as a thermos for keeping things warm but that wasn't an issue for me as generally drinking within a couple of hours. More of an issue was it's too effective if I used it in a coffee shop as they make the coffee much hotter than I do at home

Thereisnoname · 07/02/2023 15:54

Thermos King Cup

Seems pricey to buy but leakproof and keeps things properly hot.
I've had mine about 3 years and its neve let me down..

plumduck · 07/02/2023 15:56

How long is the commute

pashmina696 · 07/02/2023 16:01

Contigo Transit Autoseal Travel Mug, Stainless Steel Thermal Mug, Vacuum Flask, Leakproof Tumbler, Coffee Mug with BPA Free Easy-Clean Lid, Biscay Bay, 470 ml amzn.eu/d/4xpIbzj

I have this one - actually found it for less in TK Maxx - had it 2 years or so and it's never leaked and it has almost daily use.

My flask is great for the days we go to the park and the cafe is closed. A flask of boiling water, the camping mugs and sachets of instant cappuccino. Fab.

But when I was sitting on a freezing cold bus at 6am on my way to a 15 hour shift (probably without a break as we were always short staffed)? A flask was useless. I could fill it with coffee before I left for work and have a sip as and when I had time.

Anyway @crochetmonkey74 my contigo (Byron?) Is fab. No leaks, stays hot for hours. And I've had it for about 5 years.

NoAprilFool · 07/02/2023 16:03

Definitely not a chilly’s coffee mug. Damn thing leaks when it’s just been upright! Such an expensive disappointment
