AIBU for being mad at nursery re. Carseat storage?

Hi all.
LG #2 (10 months) has just started nursery today! My husband and I are both shift workers and apart from rare days whoever drops off doesn't pick up due to the shifts.
My husband dropped her off this morning and left the carseat there. No biggie right?
I picked her up and they told me that we couldn't leave the carseat there because they didn't have a dedicated storage room.
Now, I didn't ask when registering her if we could leave the carseat, but I've never known a nursery to not allow you to leave a pram/carseat! I toured a lot and all the other nurseries in the area have storage for prams/carseats - I guess I just forgot to ask 🤦‍♀️ We can't afford to buy another seat and have one in each car. AIBU being mad at them?
I'll probably have a word tomorrow and say we'll have to move her somewhere else if we can't sort out something out until she grows out of the size 0 carseat (we have two of the size 1/2/3 seats already) so it won't be a problem in 3 months but I don't want to come across as a drama queen...
Thanks for any input/advice!

Never heard of somewhere that would keep seats or prams on site tbh

NewFriday · 01/02/2023 22:03

I admit my experience of nurseries is limited to one but it wouldn't occur to be that they would have storage TBH.

If this nursery doesn't work for you, I guess you'll have to change it, but I don't think it's a particular failing on their part.

mynameiscalypso · 01/02/2023 22:04

Our nursery has room for folded up buggies (but they have to be small ones). No way they'd have room for car seats etc too.

GreaterStickle · 01/02/2023 22:04

YABU. You shouldn’t have assumed it was okay to leave the car seat there and it was very rude of your DH to just go ahead and do so.

You have no recourse to be angry at them because you failed to check.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 01/02/2023 22:05

I’ve never seen a car seat or pushchair left at a nursery.
how many kids are there each day? What if everyone asked to leave something with them for the day?

EezyOozy · 01/02/2023 22:05

I’ve never known a nursery that lets people leave car seats. YABU to change your child’s nursery over a car seat!

TooSmallForTheMembrane · 01/02/2023 22:05

I also have never heard of a nursery storing car seats of prams. Surely it would work out cheaper (once you’ve paid registration fees and your notice at current nursery) just to buy a second infant car seat.

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 01/02/2023 22:06

Ours does have a specific space for leaving car seats but it doesn’t have a space to leave a pushchair so I guess everywhere is different

Jagley · 01/02/2023 22:06

Sorry another one who has never known a nursery to have storage for car seats. Wouldn't even cross my mind that they would.

Ljc1985 · 01/02/2023 22:06

YABU our nursery simply wouldn't have room if everyone left a car seat

NeverDropYourMooncup · 01/02/2023 22:06

A newborn carseat is fifty five quid.

How much is the deposit on a nursery place or the amount you'll lose from not working until you find another placement? I'm pretty sure it'll be a lot more than that.

Sanch1 · 01/02/2023 22:06

You are bonkers! What if every parent wanted to leave a pram or car seat 😂 you'll just have to buy another one.

Proteinpudding · 01/02/2023 22:07

I've worked in nurseries and have never come across one with storage like this. Many have pram 'stores' but only in the sense of somewhere to briefly leave/park a pram eg if you're bringing more than one child. Honestly I think your request is pretty strange

SausageinaBun · 01/02/2023 22:07

Do you have a trusted friend who you could borrow a spare seat from until you can use the next one up? Whilst secondhand car seats aren't advised, if you know someone well enough, they won't lend you one that has been in a crash.

QuertyGirl · 01/02/2023 22:08

YABU

it's a nursery, not a storage facility

Get another one

PleaseCleanTheWholeToilet · 01/02/2023 22:08

The nursery i worked out, had outside storage for folded up small buggies but 100% not carseats, they are bulky and very unlikely to fit anywhere

TheOriginalEmu · 01/02/2023 22:09

I’ve used 4 different nurseries and left buggies there every time.
i wouldn’t be angry, but I would find somewhere else.

MyLoveIsYourLove0xO · 01/02/2023 22:09

Ridiculous-on your part !

Smartiepants79 · 01/02/2023 22:09

Personally I think you are being unreasonable.
Car seats are pretty bulky. What if every child decides to leave one at nursery? That’s a lot of storage space. Where do you propose they keep it?
What if it gets damaged? It’s another piece of expensive equipment that needs or be looked after. Who’s responsible for it? Who’s insurance does it come under??
As a one off I’d hope they’d be accommodating and flexible but I can see why they don’t really want to have it be something they have to look after every time your child is at nursery.

Basilthymerosemary · 01/02/2023 22:10

Very strange. I've never heard of nurseries letting you store prams or car seats!! We had to have 4- two in each car.Yes it's an expense but it is what it is- you can't expect them to allow every parent to leave prams/car seat.

I think you'll be taking your little one out of that nursery.

EarringsandLipstick · 01/02/2023 22:10

My creche had a buggy park (outside, not secure, had a kind of roof over it). Most people left not very expensive buggies there. It was used a lot, as it was opposite the train station & many parents were dropping DC & heading to work on the train.

However, a car seat is a little different I think. Leaving it outside like this wouldn't be great for it, and naturally, there's no space inside. So YABU I'm afraid.

LolaSmiles · 01/02/2023 22:11

I've never known a nursery have pram or car seat storage, unless you mean an area parents can leave buggies whilst they drop older children off at another room/building in the nursery.

You are a bit unreasonable to be 'mad' at the nursery for not meeting your unusual requirement that you didn't even ask they provided.

LoveBluey · 01/02/2023 22:11

Also never heard of a nursery that offers storage like this so if it was a deal breaker you really should have checked.

I looked around lots and they just don't have rooms sitting empty ready for storing bulky car seats or prams.

JennytheDonk · 01/02/2023 22:11

Of course you can't store prams and car seats!

Imagine a nursery having to have space for 30 odd car seats, they'd need another building

turrrniiipz · 01/02/2023 22:12

The nursery I used had an outdoor pram shed, it was dry and sheltered and about the size of a supermarket trolley park so everyone could leave their pram behind. Car seats would have been fine too.

Not as bizarre as people seem to think.
