AIBU for being mad at nursery re. Carseat storage?

Hi all.
LG #2 (10 months) has just started nursery today! My husband and I are both shift workers and apart from rare days whoever drops off doesn't pick up due to the shifts.
My husband dropped her off this morning and left the carseat there. No biggie right?
I picked her up and they told me that we couldn't leave the carseat there because they didn't have a dedicated storage room.
Now, I didn't ask when registering her if we could leave the carseat, but I've never known a nursery to not allow you to leave a pram/carseat! I toured a lot and all the other nurseries in the area have storage for prams/carseats - I guess I just forgot to ask 🤦‍♀️ We can't afford to buy another seat and have one in each car. AIBU being mad at them?
I'll probably have a word tomorrow and say we'll have to move her somewhere else if we can't sort out something out until she grows out of the size 0 carseat (we have two of the size 1/2/3 seats already) so it won't be a problem in 3 months but I don't want to come across as a drama queen...
Thanks for any input/advice!

YABVU ! Many nurseries will take a pushchair(but often this is just an outside area with a cover for those who are coming on foot/bus and going on to work after drop off but I’ve never seen one take car seats, maybe as a one off but not as a regular thing!

underneaththeash · 01/02/2023 22:21

Our old nursery had a shed outside to store prams. I’m not sure you’d want to leave a car seat there as it would need to be on the ground and it would get bashed and dirty.

piglet81 · 01/02/2023 22:21

I thought it was standard for nurseries to have a buggy shed - the ones we used did. Folding prams/buggies only, to be fair - I did see some car seats on occasion but we’re in London so most people walk to nursery, drop kid, leave buggy and continue to the station to travel into central.

Isyesterdaytomorrowtoday · 01/02/2023 22:21

We shared pick up and drop off so had a car seat in both cars. Wouldn’t have occurred to me to ask nursery to store it- what if it got damaged etc? I’ve never seen it done

MrsMikeDrop · 01/02/2023 22:22

I totally get what you mean OP, its not something I would've thought of either. But I do see the nursery's pov, because then the issue is if everyone starts wanting to store stuff then what do they do, and they probably don't make exceptions as then people take advantage

TheChippendenSpook · 01/02/2023 22:23

The nurseries I used to work in had storage for prams and you could leave your car seat but it was a pain to store them as they're bulky.

Which is kind of the point I'm making... most families ues have one parent who does drop off and pick up but we just can't work that way :/
All the other nurseries near me have storage, I didn't even think it was a thing to not have storage! We went for this one because it was a much bigger space ironically.

But obviously reading the comments I'm living on another planet 🤣🤣 (would be nice if people could remain friendly though 🙄)

Sell one of your 1/2/3 seats and buy a joie tilt which is £70 and does from birth to age 4 rear facing.

Confusednewmum1 · 01/02/2023 22:23

Your barking up the wrong tree, get a seat off gumtree for £20/£30 or get a new nursery - tomorrow by the sounds of it if you can’t co-ordinate a drop off

SummerInSun · 01/02/2023 22:23

I'm staggered that everyone is saying that most nurseries don't have buggy storage. All three of the nurseries my DC attended had that - outside in the rain sometimes, but they had it. This is relatively central London, though, so absolutely everyone pushed their DC to nursery in the buggy and then left it there when they went on to the nearest tube stop to get to work.

Judgyjudgy · 01/02/2023 22:25

You are being a drama queen ... just buy another carseat, surely the safety of your baby is paramount? Also watch it doesn't backfire and you end up with no childcare for your child

Claudine4 · 01/02/2023 22:25

Yes I definitely see their POV. I've just literally picked the only nursery in my area that doesn't have storage 🤦‍♀️

As some have said, maybe having pram and carseat storage is a London thing?

This is the reason we own a total of 6 car seats for 2 DC.
We've just bought a Graco ERF seat for up to age 4 for £80 or buy a second hand one from someone sensible on FB.

Same, also London so maybe that's why? Next to no car seats and everyone needing a buggy as they've walked. Very normal for one parent to drop and one to pick up as part of commute, so buggies stay at nursery in the day

You should not buy a 2nd hand one from someone you don't know- you don't know its history.

Clymene · 01/02/2023 22:27

Yeah having used preschool childcare in London and not London, I think buggy/car seat storage might be a London thing. I did it there and don't do it in not London!

NewNovember · 01/02/2023 22:27

How bizarre why could you leave it in the parents room or pram shed?

longestlurkerever · 01/02/2023 22:28

Amazed at people saying no pram storage at nurseries. Between my children and nieces/nephees I must have used about 8 different nurseries over the years and they all had space for folded buggies/scooters etc even in London where space is at a premium. Otherwise you'd have to take them empty with you to work after drop off? Or does everyone drive their kids to nursery.. Car seats might be a bit bulkier I suppose but not by loads. I doubt everyone is going to leave one. I do agree it seems a strange hill to die on OP but perhaps just have a word about how important it is for you and see if they can accommodate.

longestlurkerever · 01/02/2023 22:29

Crossed posts, see others say the same!

mynameiscalypso · 01/02/2023 22:30

I agree that buggy/pram stowage might be a London/city thing. 90% of the parents at DS nursery walk and then leave the buggy there all day and I think that's fairly standard where we are as most people are dropping a child on the way to work. I've never seen car seat storage but I don't think I've ever been aware of a parent driving a child to DS' nursery as the vast majority don't have cars.

Yanbu and a drama queen. You would unsettle your baby over this? And you would uproot her again in a few months? And you would expect them to be cool with this? There is no way I would consider having you back if you pulled this.

I'm not sure OP is the one being a drama queen. Maybe try reading the posts?

Reebokclassics · 01/02/2023 22:36

Most don’t have this available. Ours had a tiny wooden lean to outside the nursery but inside the gate (accessible to any person passing the nursery if they wanted to!) that if you were early enough you might squeeze your buggy or car seat into but there was no protection from the rain if it was blowing that way and also no way of locking them in 😂 mine never got nicked though!

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 01/02/2023 22:36

How far apart are your workplaces and nursery?

We did this, I'd drop off and have the seat in my car, then DP would swing by my work on the way to nursery and use the spare key to get the seat, then do pick up.

Could something like that work for you, especially as it's only for 3 months.

BananaPie · 01/02/2023 22:37

Defo a London thing. I’ve used nurseries in London and in a small town. London - loads of space for leaving buggies, car seats, scooters, kids bikes etc. Small town - no storage at all. But in the small town everyone drove to nursery and I guess if they had more than one car, they had a car seat in each. We did.
