AIBU for being mad at nursery re. Carseat storage?

Hi all.
LG #2 (10 months) has just started nursery today! My husband and I are both shift workers and apart from rare days whoever drops off doesn't pick up due to the shifts.
My husband dropped her off this morning and left the carseat there. No biggie right?
I picked her up and they told me that we couldn't leave the carseat there because they didn't have a dedicated storage room.
Now, I didn't ask when registering her if we could leave the carseat, but I've never known a nursery to not allow you to leave a pram/carseat! I toured a lot and all the other nurseries in the area have storage for prams/carseats - I guess I just forgot to ask 🤦‍♀️ We can't afford to buy another seat and have one in each car. AIBU being mad at them?
I'll probably have a word tomorrow and say we'll have to move her somewhere else if we can't sort out something out until she grows out of the size 0 carseat (we have two of the size 1/2/3 seats already) so it won't be a problem in 3 months but I don't want to come across as a drama queen...
Thanks for any input/advice!

Car seats are supposed to be professionally fitted aren't they? Not taken in and out the car

Of course you can't store prams and car seats!

Imagine a nursery having to have space for 30 odd car seats, they'd need another building

Ours has shelves that you can put them on in the corridor. It’s only for the baby ones that you take out of the car, there’s probably about 6 left on any day. It doesn’t actually take up that much space. I understand why lots don’t make space for it though.

PurBal · 01/02/2023 22:14

Our nursery allows pushchairs, but only in the baby room if they’re required for naps not as general storage. Never heard of somewhere storing a car seat.

Lots of the infant carriers are designed to be taken in and out.

I'd imagine it would only ever be the odd parent that would benefit from leaving a car seat behind.

Most people won't need to remove the car seat from the car.

There are lots of different types of car seats. Infant carriers in particular are usually made with ease of taking in and out, fitting to travel systems etc. Not affixed to the car.

Even ERF seats can easily be moved between cars within minutes, you just leave the tethers in.

Oysterbabe · 01/02/2023 22:15

Pretty much everyone I know bought a shitty umbrella fold to throw in the storage box at their nursery. Not sure about car seats though.

It's perfectly fine to fit a car seat yourself

VivaVivaa · 01/02/2023 22:16

Our nursery has enough space for maybe 5 fold up pushchairs only and that is in a shed out the front. Definitely no space for proper prams or car seats. I don’t think any nurseries that we enquired about did to be honest. As others have said that would require a lot of space to cater for everyone.

drspouse · 01/02/2023 22:16

My DCs' old nursery had a shed for both car seats and buggies. The nursery at DD's school has a shelter for buggies but nowhere for car seats. Must vary.

mrscumberbatch11 · 01/02/2023 22:16

If I were you I'd get another infant carrier.

You are not supposed to buy second hand, but people pass them on all the time. Maybe you know somebody who would sell you one they were finished with, or loan it to you for 3 months.

qpmz · 01/02/2023 22:17

Can you borrow a size 0 seat for a few months? Or buy one 2nd hand? I know 2nd hand isn't advised but there are many out there in perfect condition.

The nursery shouldn't be expected to store them.

Vinvertebrate · 01/02/2023 22:17

If they allow space for one, they’d need to find space for all (which is ridiculous!) We barely had enough space for coat pegs!

Newjobformoremoney · 01/02/2023 22:17

I never tried with a car seat but they would take our bike seat… they also took prams. It could also be an issue for the car seat safety?

PumpkinDart · 01/02/2023 22:18

I left mine for my father in law once and they were fine with it but on a regular basis I can see how that could be problematic. However, my children's nursery is a small setting maybe a larger nursery would have more free space.

Entitled parent...incoming!!!

Swiftswatch · 01/02/2023 22:18

I’ve never heard of one to take car seats!!

Prams can be folded down to fairly small, infant car seats are bulky and I’m not surprised they can’t accommodate it.
Ours even park scooters too but car seats are just so much bigger.

SeasonFinale · 01/02/2023 22:18

On the basis you would have to give notice and om the basis that nursery places are like hen's teeth good luck with the change of nursery assuming you can find one that will have car seat storage

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 01/02/2023 22:19

We can't afford to buy another seat and have one in each car

They cost about fifty quid. Or can be loaned from a friend if you only need one for 3 months.

whataboutsecondbreakfast · 01/02/2023 22:19

Nursery aren't a storage area.

Just buy two car seats.

cansu · 01/02/2023 22:19

It will cause you much more expense and hassle to find a new nursery. Just get a cheap car seat to keep in your car.

NeedAHoliday2021 · 01/02/2023 22:19

Buy a second car seat. It’s worth it if your like the nursery. I can’t imagine many have space. We could do this on a rare occasion but not regularly.

PumpkinDart · 01/02/2023 22:19

Also, saying you'll have to move your child seems a bit ott and petulant, by the time you find one that's okay with that and give notice (28 days at ours) you'll be weeks away from moving up a seat size.

Claudine4 · 01/02/2023 22:19

Which is kind of the point I'm making... most families ues have one parent who does drop off and pick up but we just can't work that way :/
All the other nurseries near me have storage, I didn't even think it was a thing to not have storage! We went for this one because it was a much bigger space ironically.

But obviously reading the comments I'm living on another planet 🤣🤣 (would be nice if people could remain friendly though 🙄)

I’m surprised so many people assume all nurseries don’t even store prams. I don’t know a single nursery near me that doesn’t! We looked at about 6 and everyone in my nct alternates pick up and drop off with their partners and they all just leave the pram. No one is pushing a spare pram into work.
It’s not that unusual I imagine.
