Beauty students asked to strip in front of trans rapist at college AFTER sex attacks

scratchedbymycat · 27/01/2023 12:42

My AIBU title taken from this news article:

www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/beauty-students-asked-strip-front-29063499

This whole 'Isla Bryson' cluster-fuck has me angrier than I can describe.

These girls had to accept and trust this vile individual in their beauty course on the basis of Isla's claim to be a woman, nothing more. They even tolerated abuse from Isla.

They were not told this individual was facing charges of rape. The college claim they didn't know either. Because 'Isla' said he was a women, these young women felt they had no choice but to strip to virtually naked in front of him. Failing to do so would be 'bigoted'.

But he also happens to be a serial rapist. Young women, some possibly aged 16 or so, stripping to virtually naked while a serial rapist watches. If this was my daughter I would be going mad.

Where is the safeguarding?

AIBU to feel viscerally angry with all our politicians about this?

I don't see the problem with reassigning disabled toilets. I think that you naysayers are making a mountain out of a molehill.
The number of transwomen is tiny, I've never seen a queue for a disabled toilet, so what's your problem? All disabled toilets have a sign saying " not all disabilities are visible".
It may be that women outnumber men in the UK and men support women in defending their rights, even the MCP's, so get off mumsnet and get out there protesting, take to the streets, pressure your mp.

The problem is that it repurposes one of the few services available to disabled people and designates it for someone else.

Tygger · 01/02/2023 10:50

Transwomen will not kill women's sport if women refuse to compete with them, it may be necessary for women to organise their own sports and set their own rules, most men will support this.

TangledWebOfDeception · 01/02/2023 10:50

Aha.

No need to discuss further with you.

YOU are the 'dissenting voice'! The vast majority of women AND men do not want to share intimate spaces.

And just for the record, now with your update, I DON'T respect you/your opinion on this!

SinnerBoy · 01/02/2023 10:50

Tygger · Today 10:47

"No disrespect", but you say that I haven't thought this through? With all due respect to you, I have given this considerable thought and discussed it with others. The only dissenting voices are a few of you on mumsnet.

I guarantee that you haven't spoken to a single disabled person about this, as you are not wearing their coffee.

Emotionalsupportviper · 01/02/2023 10:52

The hate crime laws make it possible for trans activists to have women arrested or put through disciplinary hearings by their employer on the most spurious grounds and as we know, the punishment is often the process (plus there is thf threat if a prison sentence).

This reminded me, too, of the "non-crime hate speech" reports that can now be made to the police abut anyone @RichardBarrister .

The police will keep a record of this against someone - even though it is a "non-crime", and "hate-speech" is not defined. Police officers may go to people's homes or bring them in to the station to talk to them about their "hate speech" (which can be as mild as "misgendering") even though this is not a crime. Records can be held on any of us which we may not even be aware of.

We are not given the right or the opportunity to deny, or put anything into context, or explain. Everything is subjective - indeed, could be based on lies. When it comes to light for whatever reason, we have no right of reply. This has been said. The complainant has stated this. Therefore it is true. We are not necessarily told who has accused us.

scratchedbymycat · 01/02/2023 10:52

And .. for those unaware ... it's a social experiment based on an academic postmodern concept that is now called 'Queer Theory'. 'Queering society' - subverting norms and established ideas etc. Challenging everything.

Most civil rights movements start from the grassroots, where ordinary people rise up from injustice. This one is top-down: ideological, conceptual, and polar opposite to rational science.

No it doesn't, these toilets are used infrequently, by both men and women, have you ever seen a queue for a disabled toilet, do you know how many transgender men there are in the country?
What's the problem that you forsee?

TangledWebOfDeception · 01/02/2023 10:53

If anyone wants to see the face of evil, genuinely, Queer Theory is it.

And disabled people fought long and hard for these facilities.

Let trans people fight for their own. YOU can't see a problem because it isn't YOU who is affected.

Transwomen will not kill women's sport if women refuse to compete with them, it may be necessary for women to organise their own sports and set their own rules, most men will support this.

If they want to compete in the Olympics, they'll need the IOC to approve those rules. Given that it didn't consult any women's sports organisations when deciding to let TW compete as women if they merely reduced their testosterone to a level still about five times higher than that ever found naturally in a natal woman, I don't really trust them.

Honestly, that's like when the FA band women from playing on any of its grounds. Yes, women could still get together in parks and so on, but it effectively made it impossible for them to play professionally in Britain.

Tygger · 01/02/2023 10:56

Take a leaf out of world boxing. It may take a while, but if its worth fighting for then what are the options?

nilsmousehammer · 01/02/2023 10:57

Isn't it always staggering how these passionate social justice warriors know sweet fanny adams about any group at all except this very special group of males, and through this ignorance and belief that no one and nothing matters against their pet championed group, snatch and feel entitled to appropriate any resource belonging to another group.

And get very angry if anyone tries to point out that no, it is not the case that anything not currently serving this group of special males is a terra nullis waste of space just begging to be made more useful.

No, you cannot mug other groups for their resources. You have no idea of the needs of the group you're mugging.

Can someone please define what Queer theory is, what is wants and why it is worrying, with some references?

DD's school uses equality and inclusion resources based in Queer theory (the No Outsiders resources), and I need some evidence to take to the school on why this is a safeguarding concern.

Well, one of the problems is that radical transgender women do not recognise themselves as having a 'hidden disability'. They are women. No debate.

Second, co opting the disabled toilets (not fair to disabled people), only scratches the surface. What about all the other spaces that need sex segregation? Changing rooms? Sport? Prisons? Refuge centres etc

TangledWebOfDeception · 01/02/2023 11:00

It seeks destruction and chaos. Basically no boundaries anywhere, for anyone.

(long story short)

There will be plenty of discussion on the sex/gender topic, I should think. I haven't delved in too deeply as I'm not prepared to taint my mind with it.

lifeturnsonadime · 01/02/2023 11:01

Tygger is showing compete ignorance on both the need for disabled facilities for disabled people and the reasons that the appropriate response for women's sport is NOT to suggest athletes refuse to compete.

FFS. Males should be in men's single sex spaces and sports.

It is not for women & disabled people to move over to accommodate them.

Women had (still have) their own categories. Why should women have to start all over again? Trans sports people should start their own instead.

Same goes for toilets, disabled community fought to obtain these spaces. Trans community should go about organising and campaigning for theirs without taking from others.

Not sure, but I don't think @Tygger is a social justice warrior. Just trying to understand and work things out. It is complicated getting to grips initially.

That's the whole point women already have their own sports.

Mens should be recatorised as Open, open to men, transwomen and women.

Leaving women's sports for actual human females

lifeturnsonadime · 01/02/2023 11:05

So, by extension @Tygger presumably thinks that the appropriate response to the point of the OP, would be for the female students to boycott, not get their qualifications and let the rapist who claims to be a transwoman get on with it?

ReneBumsWombats · 01/02/2023 11:07

Yes, as Sharron Davies has said many times (and for which she has received death threats): just make the men's category Open and protect women's sports for natal females only. Totally inclusive, and no need for transwomen to take performance inhibiting drugs, which is surely a good thing. What's the problem?

It’s very easy to give away other people’s stuff isn’t it.

An important aspect of disabled toilets for people that need them is their availability. Many people have conditions that mean they can’t wait for the toilet so the number currently available should be adequate so there are no queues. If you normalise non disabled people using them you break the strict social contract we currently have and take away facilities that disable people took years to obtain.

There is perfectly adequate provision for male people to use male toilets. There is also unisex in many places.

Erm, women’s sport is exactly what you have just said it may be necessary for women to do. So you are arguing that instead of setting up open categories for trans women/ trans men and leaving women’s sport alone, we should let the trans people take the already set up women’s sport and make women start again? How does that logic work?

TangledWebOfDeception · 01/02/2023 11:18

Well @Somanyquestionstoaskaboutthis the people with penises want it, so they should just take it and the lesser people should just move over! Obvious, surely...
