Surely nobody can eat a pack of pate?

There are 4 of us. Once a week we have lots of different types of salads with French bread and pate as our evening meal. We love pate. It gets eaten at breakfast on toast in the days afterwards.

We never managed to eat it all before we’re scared of it. Why don’t they sell it in usable portions?

Now I want some pâté..

PortiasBiscuit · 26/01/2023 06:12

Havent read the whole thread but maybe OP was subjected to meat paste in the 70’s, in teeny jars?
Shiphams, is it still a thing?

NCgoingdry · 26/01/2023 06:15

This is excellent. Thank you OP for blessing us with your pate woes.

Maybe the OP is my DSis, she was put in charge of making sandwiches for a picnic for a day out. I think she'd made them for DM and 4 DC using a single jar of Shipham paste.

When it was time to eat them we looked in the sandwiches and you could barely see it.

Luckily we had crisps as well so we had crisp and homeopathic paste sandwiches.

Morrisons do a pack that's split in to sections so you can just open one small section at a time. They also do 50g packs.

TerfOnATrain · 26/01/2023 06:43

I’ve had to go downstairs to check my pate consumption. I opened a white plastic tub yesterday and had it on my lunchtime toasted granary bagel. It was delicious and spread thickly. I used about 1/8 of the tub.

Based on four people sharing the same tub for the main meal of the day I would expect it to be entirely gone on Treat of The Week day.

I think this thread is a joke thread, but it’s certainly made me laugh.

BigMadAdrian · 26/01/2023 06:48

I once ate 8 slices of toast and pate in a row when I was breastfeeding ds2, who was huge and would eat no solids at all until he was 9 months...this was a snack.

I know what you mean about the grey outside/pink inside op - I would still eat it when it was like this. My dh has put me off it completely by calling it 'guts' though - thanks dh!

MichelleScarn · 26/01/2023 06:57

@Poppins2016 your salad sounds amazing!! Now added to my sad list of things I want to eat along with an entire slab of pate as soon as dc2 is born! Mmm warm runny cheese and wodges of pate on crusty bread and that salad!!

Are you a family of sparrows OP? Or do you just want to bestow us with your saintly eating habits 🙄

175g of Magical Mumsnet Chicken Pate

Amazing.

Where on earth do you eat out? That would be a tiny 20g sliver. 25p-worth. How much do you pay for this mini-starter?

Oh oops you’re right lol. Probably 3 people. Brain fart.

ThreeblackCats · 26/01/2023 07:20

I’m married to a vegetarian. I use an entire pack of patê in one or two sittings. If 4 of you are leaving any at the end of your big blow out, once a week treat, you’re eating it incorrectly!

BurtonsRevenge · 26/01/2023 07:30

This is classic pate petrification. Probably causer by a build up of liver toxins in your diet

Nothing saintly about eating pate like this

HandlebarLadyTash · 26/01/2023 07:39

@pyracantha I think a pate on bread photo / diagram is needed😀

TiredandLate · 26/01/2023 07:39

This is hilarious, good work OP.

BunchHarman · 26/01/2023 07:41

If four of you aren’t getting through a tiny tub across several days, I don’t think you’re eating the pate right.

Maybe try a different ‘treat meal centrepiece’. 🫢

I've been struggling with anorexia and bulimia on and off for decades and even i think this is pathetic.

Depressed by the image of the whole family gathered around to marvel at the salad with pate centerpiece of a Saturday night.

You don't have to be. These are made up just for fun

OPs house on a Friday night: OMG peeps tomorrow is Saturday - which means pate night. God I love pate, will it be duck this week or perhaps a coarse terrine?

Saturday night: OP pushes back plate with small contented sigh of satisfaction "salad, baguette and pate" we are blessed

Sunday morning: Joyous news, pate on toast for breakfast for us all

Monday morning: Goodness, it's like the magic porridge pot but liver based -more pate still!

Tuesday; Ooft, sad news chaps, the pate is looking a little terrifying. Omelette, anyone?

Wednesday, Thursday- foraging amongst the tumbleweed

Friday: Yay, praise beans only 24 hrs till our super special meal of the week - who is excited for pate day?!

Perfection 👌

Pate Fears Two

Sooooo good 👌

namechangeforthisbleep · 26/01/2023 07:55

Weird

ZenNudist · 26/01/2023 07:57

No one eats it here but I quite like it so it goes off. I buy the pack from lidl that's split into two vacuum packs portions.

TheHauntedPencilCase · 26/01/2023 07:58

MrsSkylerWhite · 25/01/2023 22:52

What size pack are we talking about?
I can manage a rectangular pack in a baguette for Sunday brunch by myself.

This. I want to know where to find Ops massive pate!

Swiftswatch · 26/01/2023 08:01

4 of you eat it for dinner and then it’s used for 4 portions of breakfast a day for several days and you still can’t get through it??
I’m trying to picture the standard size of pate and I can’t imagine how small the scraping must be to still have loads left, and one of the meals is dinner with only a salad!
