Surely nobody can eat a pack of pate?

There are 4 of us. Once a week we have lots of different types of salads with French bread and pate as our evening meal. We love pate. It gets eaten at breakfast on toast in the days afterwards.

We never managed to eat it all before we’re scared of it. Why don’t they sell it in usable portions?

You clearly need to eat bigger baguettes and more slices of toast or spread it thicker.

My ds can easily get through a small tub of the Asda pate in the 3 days it's edible for.

Underminer · 26/01/2023 08:02

Can we have a pate diagram? I am having a dinner party soon and could do with a pate centrepiece.

ZeroFuchsGiven · 26/01/2023 08:03

I've never liked pate but I never used to like mustard or coffee. Think I'll buy some to try.

Theraffarian · 26/01/2023 08:03

Really can’t read the whole thread , but I’m pretty sure OP would be mortally terrified by the amount of pate that joins my fridge for that period between Christmas and New Year 😂 . Also by the fact it always gets eaten , let alone a random lone pack at any other time .

BadgerHeed · 26/01/2023 08:04

A salad with pate on crusty bread is a treat?
It's a weekday lunch for me.

PinkyFlamingo · 26/01/2023 08:08

This is a stealth boast about how little you all eat for a meal isn't it? Otherwise there's no way 4 of you can't eat that wee tub of pate in one go!

PinkyFlamingo · 26/01/2023 08:12

175g!!

Surely nobody can eat a pack of pate?
Marigoldandivy · 26/01/2023 08:15

I love a half inch square of pate with a side of a lettuce leaf. Mmmm, full for hours.🙂

Toadybum · 26/01/2023 08:18

I ate a whole pack of lidl Christmas pate by myself in the run up to Christmas. In one day.

MissMarpleRocks · 26/01/2023 08:23

Whenever I have pate it never lasts longer than a day. I just keep going back to the fridge with a teaspoon. And a cracker. Bloody love pate. The dog tries to snog me whenever I eat it.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 26/01/2023 08:29

Do you mean this one OP?

175g pot doesn't get eaten in a week?

Surely nobody can eat a pack of pate?
TakemedowntoPotatoCity · 26/01/2023 08:29

I eat it on its own straight out the packet - doesn't last too long😳

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 26/01/2023 08:31

Also, who has salad with it "as a treat"? Surely you need a baked camembert, a vat of olives and some of those little cream cheese stuffed peppers before ir actually becomes a treat.

If my Saturday night treat tea was a salad I'd be fucking gutted.

OPs house on a Friday night: OMG peeps tomorrow is Saturday - which means pate night. God I love pate, will it be duck this week or perhaps a coarse terrine?

Saturday night: OP pushes back plate with small contented sigh of satisfaction "salad, baguette and pate" we are blessed

Sunday morning: Joyous news, pate on toast for breakfast for us all

Monday morning: Goodness, it's like the magic porridge pot but liver based -more pate still!

Tuesday; Ooft, sad news chaps, the pate is looking a little terrifying. Omelette, anyone?

Wednesday, Thursday- foraging amongst the tumbleweed

Friday: Yay, praise beans only 24 hrs till our super special meal of the week - who is excited for pate day?!

I think this is the funniest thing I've ever read on Mumsnet.

Johnnysgirl · 25/01/2023 23:28

A family of four eat it "for days" and it just doesn't get any smaller? 🤔
To be honest, I'd be scared if that too. Sounds like it's been infiltrated by alien forces.

Ahahahahaha 😄

Yesthatismychildsigh · 26/01/2023 08:38

Sounds like you have miserable, miserly portions. Why bother?

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 26/01/2023 08:38

ODFOx · 25/01/2023 23:06

After a quick google I find that it freezes well (who knew?) so if you regularly have leftovers OP freeze them after 1 day instead of waiting for it to go off.

I always freeze some pate de campagne for Christmas eating. I can eat a pack in a few days all by myself.

Patineur · 26/01/2023 08:41

OP, could you post a picture of, say, a piece of bread with paté on to show how thickly you and your family normally spread it? How many pieces of baguette and paté would each of you normally have as part of a meal?

MillicentTrilbyHiggins · 26/01/2023 08:42

Thanks for the suggestions of lettuce and cucumber as low carb alternatives to bread as a carrier. I've just been to tesco and bought it all for lunch. What a treat.

mrsbyers · 26/01/2023 08:43

It makes great stuffed mushrooms misses the point

gogohmm · 26/01/2023 08:45

I can eat a pate in 2-3 days just for breakfast Confused

RoseMadderAsHell · 26/01/2023 08:45

pizzaHeart · 26/01/2023 00:23

It doesn’t matter OP how you spread it. There are instructions on the pack that you should keep it in the fridge only for 2 days after opening.
Let’s say that you’ve opened it at 6pm on Saturday. At 6 pm on the following Monday open your fridge and throw away the leftovers. That’s it, don’t be scared.

I live dangerously and often finish off the pate on day 3.
So far no ill effects.

knittingaddict · 26/01/2023 08:47

Pate and salad is a "centre piece meal"? How? Why? What? So confused.

A family of 4 can't get through a pack of pate?

This can't be real.

knittingaddict · 26/01/2023 08:49

Is this another of those unhealthy competitive undereating threads? Yawn.

Ooh but you will have to wait til Saturday for that!
