Surely nobody can eat a pack of pate?

There are 4 of us. Once a week we have lots of different types of salads with French bread and pate as our evening meal. We love pate. It gets eaten at breakfast on toast in the days afterwards.

We never managed to eat it all before we’re scared of it. Why don’t they sell it in usable portions?

When I met my partner he scraped on butter (really scraped the minimal) and was shocked when he saw me spread it thick. I’ve noticed he now spreads it very thickly. Live a little op.! Spread that pate thickly you won’t regret it

CountryMouse22 · 27/01/2023 17:52

I don't know if they still do but Waitrose deli counter used to sell pate from a big tub and they scooped out as much or as little as you wanted. This might have stopped during lockdown.

And produce more packaging to destroy the planet just so that you don't have to scoff all your pate in one go. Nahhhhh!

I was so low in B12 and anaemic after covid (pre vaccination/1st wave) that I had/needed to eat (in order to survive) ) a pack of pate a night for about a month to get my blood/b12 anywhere normal. How crazy is that. It was also expensive. You sound very civilised though. Sounds like a lovely evening experience

MissMarpleRocks · 27/01/2023 17:57

In the interest of research & taste test I’ve ordered several pates for delivery next week.

MissMarpleRocks · 27/01/2023 17:57

And I won’t be sharing with anyone.

SnarkyBag · 27/01/2023 17:57

This thread has brought back lovely memories of growing up in the 80’s and Saturday time time being a pack of pate like this cut into 5 pieces and we’d have one piece each and four jacobs cream crackers. At the time it felt like pure indulgence but to be fair we were as poor as fuck!

The thing you need to be more scared of is the huge amount of saturated fat you are eating and processed food . 🙈🙈🙈👀👀👀

If the OP's account was genuine (yeah, right), there is no danger of her family eating even a moderate amount of saturated fat. They are sharing at most half a 170g tub of pate between four at the first sitting, then eating an even tinier scrape of it on toast at breakfast for a couple of days, and then they don their hazmat suits and put it in the outside bin in a double wrapped bag, with a priest in attendance to exorcise it.

oggie679 · 27/01/2023 17:58

What a bizarre post!

Fam23 · 27/01/2023 18:03

I absolutely could eat a whole packet to myself. If I choose pate as a starter in a restaurant, I make it my mission to ensure there isn’t any left after I’ve stacked it on the not enough bread or toast that comes with it!

I didn’t know this about pate!! No wonder my b12 is always normal 🤪

LER83 · 27/01/2023 18:11

Blimey, I could polish off a whole pack in one sitting!! You've got to spread it thicker then what the bread is, with lots of butter!!

I've been trying so hard to resist the lure of pate but now I know that I will have some as a treatment for the anaemia that I have been suffering since I had covid.

You know some weeks I think half the threads on Mumsnet are a testing ground for some kind of open university course on the collective consciousness of internet tribes.

"Your task for the week, my dear students, is to study an internet forum, and write a post in the style of the user that must go viral.

Either that or it's ChatGPT again!

We buy the white tubs from the coop - it’s not from a pricey deli or anything.

We all like it very much as a treat. It sounds like people are putting it on as a thick layer on French bread rather than a spread? I’d find that tricky.

We have it on toast in the days afterwards

Once it’s gone grey in the fridge with a still pink middle I’m scared of it.

I eat that to myself in 2 sittings. Are you a borrower?
You can’t like it that much if you scrape it on!

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 27/01/2023 18:21

This thread made me yearn for pate, so I bought a pack in Sainsbury’s earlier (farmhouse with mushrooms) and have scoffed the lot. On my own. 🙂

PousseyNotMoira · 25/01/2023 23:31

This is what you’re meant to do with pate. What do you do with it, OP? For four people, I’m genuinely not seeing how it could last multiple meals, unless you’re only using the gentlest scrapings.

This
You are not spreading thickly enough

Tshirtsunyan · 27/01/2023 18:24

Morrisons deli sell little (disappointing) dobs of pate pre- packaged. If that helps at all.

Hayliebells · 27/01/2023 18:24

Yes of course I spread pate thickly on the toast, why would you just have a thin coating, like jam? Me and OH could eat a packet between us in one sitting. I like it as thick as the actual toast, with a bit of onion chutney.

ShinyMe · 27/01/2023 18:25

I think we should all buy pate this weekend and post photos of our lovely indulgent thickly spread portions for OP.

Missingpop · 27/01/2023 18:26

If you can’t eat it don’t buy it simples 😂

TerfOnATrain · 27/01/2023 18:27

The issue is Brussels pate, this is a no no. You see Ardennes, far superior.

Seagully7 · 27/01/2023 18:28

Anyone else REALLY want pâté now??

TerfOnATrain · 27/01/2023 18:29

*need. Apologies, I’m on the Cote De Provence to get
into the swing of things.

TangledWebOfDeception · 27/01/2023 18:33

Luckily I had pâté last week so this thread hasn’t got the better of me!

I’ll be having my next pâté and (massive) salad treat meal in, ohhh, about 6 months.
