Surely nobody can eat a pack of pate?

There are 4 of us. Once a week we have lots of different types of salads with French bread and pate as our evening meal. We love pate. It gets eaten at breakfast on toast in the days afterwards.

We never managed to eat it all before we’re scared of it. Why don’t they sell it in usable portions?

It is normal for pate to oxidise when exposed to air - the grey colour is not an indication of anything being wrong with it.

Pots of pate didn't exist in the 1950s, but I doubt anyone expected jars of meat paste to last for days. Particularly since hardly anyone owned a fridge.

BumpyaDaisyevna · 27/01/2023 09:27

Depends how thick you spread.

Do you give it a little scraping?

Or can you measure the pate layer in centimetres?

I usually have centimetres depth on 🥖. This is so the protein balances out the carbs. 🤣🤣🤣👍

@PatientlyWaiting21 the post is very obviously a pisstake. I'm sorry if you find it triggering.

Didn’t trigger me but there’s a lot of shit advice on here when it comes to diet do you just sounded like a normal MN 🤷‍♀️

BumpyaDaisyevna · 27/01/2023 09:31

Don’t be ridiculous. We’re not in an OBESITY CRISIS because of pâté.*

🤣🤣🤣* this thread is hilarious

TangledWebOfDeception · 27/01/2023 09:32

@PatientlyWaiting21 I know what you mean, it’s not far off! But thankfully that person was joking!

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 27/01/2023 09:34

Must admit I am partial to pate rather thickly spread on lettuce or chichon leaves or even sticks of celery. I would try to be self disciplined enough not to eat a whole tub at one sitting.

I think this just goes to show that we've lost sight of normal eating habits. In the 50s, it would have been totally standard for a family of 4 to stretch a pot of pate over several meals for a fortnight or so. Our behaviours around food have been affected so much by consumerist advertising that we've completely lost any sense of what's healthy and we're SLEEPWALKING INTO AN OBESITY CRISIS.

I’ve seen it all now. And not least as pate only lasts 2 days once open. Feeding a family of four for 2 weeks,😂

am currently actually eating pate on toast and did give a chuckle thinking about this thread as I was spreading the pate on my toast.

WedonttalkaboutMaureen · 27/01/2023 10:50

@Jourdain11 in the 50's in the U.K.? Are you sure? I think you're mixing it up with the pots of (disgusting) paste. "Forrin" food was the exception not the rule.

Is it weird that I dreamt of pate?

Not really, PATE is most definitely on my shopping list , reckon sales have gone through the ROOF

ISaidDontLickTheBin · 27/01/2023 11:35

This whole thread is batshit.

OP, I don't think you all 'really like' pate that much if you are all spreading it that thinly!

Be careful with all the wanton eating of such products!

IT'LL BE THE DEATH OF YOU!!

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 27/01/2023 12:31

I am hoping that the OP will return to the thread after her family's weekly treat with a photo of the tub of pate and the bread with the pate on it, just before she takes her first bite. Enquiring minds need to know.

In the.50,s people also.ate bread and dripping and sugar butties so.....

Cherrysoup · 27/01/2023 14:23

Just buy a smaller bloody pack, crikey, it's not rocket science!

For us, it's cheese night, big baguette, 4/5 different types of cheese, now that's a treat!

OnTheBoardwalk · 27/01/2023 00:24

@Poppins2016 I’m not a salad person but your salad sounds amazing

I'll get it to go with the pate 've ordered for delivery tomorrow

Thank you! I can't take the credit, I ordered it in a lovely restaurant in Poland and have been making it for myself ever since!

I'm pleased so many people have been inspired, I love sharing recipes!

BrightYellowDaffodil · 27/01/2023 14:55

One Waitrose didn't have any Brussels pate so, such was my desperation, I drove to the other one where I managed to track down the last few packets. I was very proud of myself as I managed not to eat it in the car, but I have to admit that the packet lasted less than 24hrs.

Appleandcarrots · 27/01/2023 16:22

PatientlyWaiting21 · 27/01/2023 07:27

Please, do the world a favour and never again offer any (unwanted) “advice” around diets.

Pretty sure that was a pisstake as well as the "2 weeks of pate one" 😁

Beercrispsandnuts · 27/01/2023 16:37

I keep picturing that little white tub of co op own label pate sitting there in the middle of the table , on its own, as the centre piece in a treat meal .

the op has done a sterling job here in capturing our imaginations,

next up, how we share a little pot of petit filous for dessert, and for the rest of the week, and have to chuck the remains out on a Friday as we can’t manage it all.

parlourb · 27/01/2023 17:08

Went shopping, pate firmly at the top of my shopping list. Had a small panic when I thought they didn’t have any in, needn’t have worried. I found this it comes in two handy portions! Might even last two servings and certainly won’t be hanging around until I’m scared of it, what you think OP worth a try ?

Surely nobody can eat a pack of pate?
Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 27/01/2023 17:34

The calorie information on things like this makes me laugh. One sixth of a pack contains 87 calories. That's just under 30g, so in the region of an ounce. Homeopathic portion.

Atsocta · 27/01/2023 17:36

Weewithholder · 25/01/2023 22:48

What do you mean you’re scared of it?!

Think that would mean, it’s going off ? Scared to eat it lol

Bog · 27/01/2023 17:36

Salad as a treat meal 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Doggate1 · 27/01/2023 17:37

The thing you need to be more scared of is the huge amount of saturated fat you are eating and processed food . 🙈🙈🙈👀👀👀

Pilgit · 27/01/2023 17:40

Having enough pate left to go off is a very odd concept. I'm not sure i fully understand......

Why? Assuming they don’t eat pate for every meal, I’m sure they’ll be ok.
