To find media discussion about trans issues far overstated compared to the actual seriousness of the issue?

Full disclosure, I happily accept most trans people I've met as their transitioned gender which I know puts me at odds with most people on MN. But as a feminist and a lefty, even if one views trans women as men which I don't, in terms of political priorities it ranks so list on my list of concerns. I assume that applies to most people too (trans people included!).

What someone has listed on their birth certificate has no impact on my life, and surely minimal impact on most women's lives? Imo we should be focusing on cost of living crisis, housing, properly funding women's services including rape crisis services, funding childcare, sorting out the health service and bloody schools! Gender recognition comes way below those for me (even though I'm broadly supportive with some checks in place).

I know gender criticals won't agree with me, and maybe some trans people who feel very strongly, but I do feel there's a silent majority of us who just aren't that fussed?

It isn't nonsense about men on buses when a man on a bus dressed in a girls school uniform is sat next to you, a young teen girl, on the bus.

This is at the heart of the issue. People think it won't happen to them so they throw all the women and girls under that bus, in order to appear progressive and inclusive. Meanwhile in the real world, women and girls are at risk and self-excluding to avoid the risk.

HiccupHorrendousHaddock · 21/01/2023 15:18

It's funny the reality is unkind argument only comes out when it's the other side

I think only comes out in the argument about trans people because that’s the only position that argues against material reality.

The rest of us already know reality is cruel, and we live with it. My father’s illness is cruel. My chronic pain is cruel. That only women have to go through periods and pregnancy and horrific childbirth that can kill them and then damned menopause is cruel. Disabilities are cruel.

Do you disagree?

If you would genuinely welcome debate why are you on the echo chamber that is Mumsnet? I am sure there are plenty of sites where you can debate with people who disagree with you on trans issues.

So to be clear then, you quite happily call Mumsnet an echo chamber, and you reckon that there are other sites where the discussions happen, yet when asked you cannot name any.

Do you think maybe that you could be wrong? And that there are not other sites where the discussion can be had compared with careful moderation of both sides as it is allowed on Mumsnet?

findmybalance · 21/01/2023 15:20

Another post making up things I said on a topic I told you pages ago you were on your own on.

Yeah whatever.

Well I am certain there are more people that don't listen to you. So I won't lose any sleep.

🤣 beyond childish but you do you.

AmaryllisNightAndDay · 21/01/2023 15:23

The poster was clear on their view of trans.

So - we're down to one poster now? And it doesn't mean everyone else agrees with them, I don't have the energy to put everyone and every post right. But if you've got your facts lined up you can do that yourself!

Though ironically it's a bit difficult to correct on MN because we're not allowed to talk about AGP at all. Any references to AGP is treated as if we're saying all trans people are AGP and it usually gets deleted.

(Interesting to see if this post stays up!)

No, it only comes out I the argument against trans people because they are the only group we allow to be spoken about in this way.

Yes, I agree life is cruel. But our compassion doesnt need to disappear when it comes to trans people.

No, there are lots (granted not on this thread). I address them as they come.

I'm sorry, I dont know what agp means.

I didn't say I couldn't name any. If you think I can't are you saying that trans issues are discussed only Mumsnet?

Helleofabore · 21/01/2023 15:24

No. Maybe you're harassing both posters or mixed up your posters, that would explain why you think I somewhere cared about what other sites do in their discussions.

My interest in your posts stopped when you minimised and mocked my concerns. Why you're still going on as ic you are the CEO of mumsnet (who actually I think do a great job, its tbe posters who are the issue) I have no idea.

Trans woman debbie Hayton on AGP

there you go

findmybalance · 21/01/2023 15:27

It isn't about compassion.

It's about risk. Specifically the risk males are to women and girls.

I suppose you expect the convicted paedophile to call the TRANS hotline when applying for that job in a school whereas I doubt they will pick the phone up, and don't want a loophole, and don't trust them as far as I can throw them. Because they are a risk. What with being a paedophile and all.

VinoDino · 21/01/2023 15:27

Yes, I agree life is cruel. But our compassion doesnt need to disappear when it comes to trans people.

People do have compassion for trans people. Wanting sex based spaces doesn't equate to not having compassion for trans people. Well not unless you have half a brain, like most TRA's.

Being trans doesn't give you the right to access any areas you want. It's not a difficult concept to understand.

findmybalance · 21/01/2023 15:28

Thanks. Well I'm not remotely surprised talk of AGP is banned, so hopefully that posters appalling post will disappear.

Like you say, it is if you have only half a brain.

Well, in some places it does. You just disagree, which h is fine (and I agree).

But calling people stupid and just making blanket statements doesnt help.

HiccupHorrendousHaddock · 21/01/2023 15:29

I'm sorry, I dont know what agp means
Autogynephilia - being sexually aroused by the idea of oneself as a woman.

I don’t think it’s unkind or lacking in compassion to acknowledge reality at the same time as acknowledging some people prefer to present themselves as a different gender for whatever reason.

Acknowledging reality doesn’t mean being a dick about it. You know (you’ve said so in a PP) and I know that transwomen are biological males. That knowledge isn’t being mean.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 21/01/2023 15:29

Wow I thought I read quickly but you read that whole article in about 30 seconds whilst answering other posters

it’s not very kind to invalidate Debbie’s experiences as a TW - Debbie is being very honest about their motivation

VinoDino · 21/01/2023 15:30

Why don't you want risk factors such as AGP to be discussed?
