There are social tariffs for broadband and water if your on some benefits.
If you have Plantar Facilitis a Cortisone injection can be given free at the doctors and helps relieve the pain.

If you're stranded in the Arctic and have to kill a polar bear for food, DON'T eat it's liver - at times it can contain so much Vitamin A that it could kill you.

🤣🤣. A fine tip!

My worry now is: I’m looking at the inside of a bear, I’m hungry but enjoying the warmth. Which red squishy bit the liver. If I lie the bear out like a person will it be the same place as a humans? Where is that?

Similar location, and it's quite easy to identify. Big, flattish, runs most of the way across the middle just below the diaphragm, quite smooth surface, 1 large attachment point.

A lot of people will know but it's ridiculous how many people I see out walking/running who don't know. If you are walking/running on a road without a pavement (like a country road, not a major road obviously) walk on the side where the traffic is oncoming to you, the whole point is you can see traffic coming towards you and can jump onto the verge/into a bush if for whatever reason they don't see you and they don't move to the side.

Take photos of your jewellery close up and pictures of you wearing it. If you are unfortunate enough to the victim of a loss or theft, it will help with your insurance claim and dealing with the loss adjuster.

Before going on a day out (beach, theme park, museum etc) take a photo of each child once they're dressed. Take another one with hoodies etc off. If they get lost you can show nearby people what you're children look like just before so they can help find them.

And write your mobile number on their arm or on a bit of paper in their pocket ( if you don’t want to write in their skin)

Rub a little Vaseline around the rubber seal in your car door to stop it freezing shut.

We always did that in Germany, WD40 works too, we used to spray the rubber of the windscreen wipers to stop them sticking and possibly tearing.

OoooohMatron · 20/01/2023 19:16

If you need to catch a chicken, or other flightless bird, hover your hand over its back. It will freeze and you can scoop it up! I've had to catch 2 chickens and a quail this way in my life and I don't even keep them.

If a recipe needs melted chocolate and your chocolate is in a plastic wrapper, chuck it into a pan of hot water, wrapper 'n all. It melts great and saves messing about with a Bain Marie type of situation. If It's wrapped in paper, do the same but just tie it into a sandwich bag or zip lock bag.

Off topic, but this is an education.... I thought it was a 'bamboree'. Bain Marie is a completely new thing to me 😂

Percentages are reversible - sometimes makes calculations quicker:

eg 40% of 60 = 60% of 40

15% of 80 = 80% of 15

Wow
Me ..mindblown
Dh..well obviously 🤣

Taught to me by an elderly German, years ago: if you have something that needs dry cleaning or washing to freshen it (eg an expensive jumper), but isn't actually grimy, hang it outside in a stiff breeze for 48 hours. It will smell as though it's been cleaned. I was sceptical about this, but it really works.

Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream can be used for a variety of first aid purposes.

Tell us more Harold please.

If you are having a problem threading a needle spray some hairspray on the end of the cotton first. Stays firm and threads easily

But what about it being darked on?

ColdHandsHotHead · 20/01/2023 19:19

if your bathroom or kitchen is very cold, put the plug in the plughole when you're not using the sink or bath. It will stop water from collecting overnight and freezing.

Any tips for vegetarians visiting the Arctic?

Don't eat anything, especially yellow snow.

Mynicename · 20/01/2023 19:21

If you need to get amoxicillin in your child and they dont have any liquid medicine, try dissolving the contents of the capsule in a little bit of ice cream. Worked far better than anything else as it properly dissolves and DC had no issues whatsoever taking it!

Bright colours attracted bears so a better approach for going into the wilderness is to just choose how you'd like to die - exposure after getting hopelessly lost or bear attack?

My tip is to make a will before going hiking.

Also if you sign up for anything then put the company name as your middle name, e.g., Jane Amazon Smith or Susan Tesco Brown. Then if you start getting marketing calls or junk mail you will know exactly which company sold your info.

My tip is don't go hiking!

If you paid full stamp duty on the purchase of a residential property in the UK and at the time you bought it it was deemed uninhabitable (there is a definition of this I think, I am not sure where to look it up unfortunately) you can claim a refund on some of the stamp duty you paid.

JudgeJ · 20/01/2023 19:23

school is not compulsory.

This used to astonish pupils, I would tell them that they had to be in receipt of full time education.

We don't have a car so take a thermal picnic bag (great for fish and chips)

White bread (basic sliced) cleans suede

HOW DID I NOT REALISE THIS!

I love a takeaway, don't drive and like to go out for a walk to collect them rather than getting them delivered. I have an insulated bag to keep things cool but it literally never occurred to me that I also could use it to keep things hot*

*Insert David Beckham joke here.
