There are social tariffs for broadband and water if your on some benefits.
If you have Plantar Facilitis a Cortisone injection can be given free at the doctors and helps relieve the pain.
Tell us something we might not know that can help us?

If you are a woman going out and about in public and do not want to receive unwanted attention from men, make sure you wear a jumper with cats on it. Cat jumpers are literally citronella for men.

😂

Always buy the canned whole plum tomatoes and chop them up yourself, rather than the canned chopped tomatoes. They are a better grade of tomato.

Oh yes that is a good tip. One of our (sadly deceased) dogs had cushings disease as well as a few other problems. Medication through the vet was £600 a month if we did it that way (we were not insured). The vet writing a prescription was £80 per month and then the prescription was around £170 a month. Still awful, but not as crippling.

Dn't y mn 'gd d'?

t's bsclly Wlsh sn't t !

Reverting to wasteful vowels - we could also get rid of X (that's Z) and k can go because that's c , and would lose J replacing it with G

The simplified alphabet would for a start make children's books cheaper as they would be smaller and more compact.

Z is for Zylophone
C is for Cwasi Cwarteng (who lost us all that money and made us do this !)

tbf I think I'm just reinventing Pitman's Shorthand which my mum was an expert at which has no doubt died out. Oh and as a child we had to learn ITA Initial Teaching Alphabet before proper English - what a waste of time that turned out to be.

Oh and if an evangelical religion knock on your door just smile and say you’re a Mormon/Jehovah’s witness (whatever they’re not) and watch them scarper

Not true I am Muslim and that never works. They still try to "comvert" me..

If Jehovas Witnesses knock on your door tell them to put you on the ‘no call list’.
JW’s don’t randomly knock on doors they keep records of where they have been and when (they record the number of hours spent ‘witnessing). They keep a list of places not to call.
If you are in a rural village and think they never call, they will, but it will probably be in summer when a ‘congregation’ will pack a picnic and hire a coach to go to rural areas.

On the pain management thing, if you are having an injection coughing stops you feeling it as much.

Vera 99 - most people haven’t hear of ITA - did you go to school in Hertfordshire?

IcakedefargeIam · 25/01/2023 08:49

Have you tried answering the door while scrubbing a skull?

You're thnking of Speedwriting, which leaves out vowels but otherwise looks fairly similar to English. Pitman's doesn't use the Roman alphabet at all; it looks like a breakdancing slug.

Don’t need to. The bear puts them off.

No Preston - it was only used for a few years in the 60s as sort of trendy new thing that turned out to be a load of bollocks. You had to learn this phonetic language in your first year at primary school and then forget it all when you did 'proper' English.

Decline
Any advantage of the I.T.A. in making it easier for children to learn to read English was often offset by some children not being able to effectively transfer their I.T.A.-reading skills to reading standard English orthography, and/or being generally confused by having to deal with two alphabets in their early years of reading. Certain alternative methods (such as associating sounds with colours, so that for example when the letter "c" writes a [k] sound it would be coloured with the same colour as the letter "k", but when "c" writes an [s] sound it could be coloured like "s", as in Words in Colour and Colour Story Reading[1]) were found to have some of the advantages of the I.T.A. without most of the disadvantages.[2] Though the I.T.A. was not originally intended to dictate one particular approach to teaching reading, it was often identified with phonics methods, and after the 1960s, the pendulum of educational theory swung away from phonics.

But will be more creased.

Ha, this explains my recent holiday clothing creases mishap.

Thank you, I was wondering why all my clothes were so creased. The washing machine was shit or I didn't know how it worked, whichever is more likely. So I had to spin everything after it had washed cos it was very wet still.

Anyhoo, bears livers and skulls are much more interesting than laundry issues.

Actually the Welsh could save a lot of money on street signs if they got to work vowel wise on this one. I personally can't be arsed. It is abbreviated to Llanfair PG I seem to remember.

I posted a reply that seems oto have disapeared saying it was used in Lancashire and that it was a terrible idea when you don't have an RP accent as the problem from letters making a different sound in some words persist.

It was also used in parts of South Africa.

Tip: once you have chosen a queue at the supermarket, stop thinking about it. Even a bad decision is unlikely to add more than a couple of minutes to your trip.

Unless you're in Costco, then whatever decision you took is wrong, it will take another 10 minutes at least for the fella in front who has a giant trolley and then his wife rocks up with another giant trolley, he was just place holding. The jerk.

Yes this!! My cat had high blood pressure and was on medication that is actually used for humans only a tiny dose. It was costing £36 a month until I twigged. Got a written prescription and it cost me £6 for three months supply!
