To think easyJet lied and ripped me off?

I flew with easyJet today. I had one cabin bag. Checked and double checked it was within the guidelines. Looked up the bag manufacturer to confirm. Went to the airport. It fit in the cage at check in but at the gate I was told it was oversized and I wouldn’t be able to board unless I paid £40.

I got to my destination and checked again and it fits perfectly! Customer service has been non existent and I am genuinely fuming.

I honestly think they used a smaller bag cage at the gate.

Pictures of said bag fitting with room to spare attached. (She said hopefully.)

it doesn’t mean under the dotted line does it?

NotTooOldPaul · 12/01/2023 16:08

How did they charge you? Did you disagree with the payment when it was requested?

Flamingogirl08 · 12/01/2023 16:09

Haven't they changed their rules so it has to fit under the seat or you pay extra?

No, that is just a diagram saying it has to fit completely within the box (which it did).

Are you sure you had the right ticket for that sized cabin bag and not one for a small, personal bag?

IhearyouClemFandango · 12/01/2023 16:11

I ask because don’t they have small under seat bags for free, and what would have been standard carry on (over head locker sized) being chargeable? This looks quite big to fit under a seat.

Yes, it has to be a max of 45 x 36 x 20 cm which is the size of the cage.

Did you pay for hand luggage when buying tickets or not? If not, you have only under seat bag

My ticket was for a bag sized 45 x 36 x 20 cm (the same size as the cage in the picture).

What ticket did you have?

KrisAkabusi · 12/01/2023 16:13

No it isn't. The dotted line is clearly to show how small a bag must be to fit under a seat. That is literally what the text says. Yours is nearly twice that size and is supposed to go in an overhead locker (at a cost if you have a cheap ticket) or be checked in.

I had to pay at the gate using my card.

That is not the size of the cage. That's half.
That are measurements of small cabin bag you get for free

God I hate these airlines for these hidden costs though. You can double the fare for a piece of luggage and a seat next to your kid. Every time I go on there seem to be more new inventive ways to screw money out of a passenger.

My bag is 43cm and fit in the cage though. You can see on the picture it says the cage is 45 x 36 x 20 cm.

My bag was 43cm. Are you suggesting the cage in the picture is actually 90cm??

There was a feature on Rip off Britain yesterday about this. Seems more common on return legs from Europe. Appeal the charge.

You had handbag as well didn't you.

That looks big for underseat bag tbh.

snowflake29 · 12/01/2023 16:17

Had you paid the cheapest flight price available? Because easyJet only allow a bag the size of a small handbag for free. The size of bag you have is now extra

Nope. Just this bag. I don’t use handbags.

What are the exact dimensions of your bag. 43cm is only one part of it

FarFlungFlamingo · 12/01/2023 16:19

I always go for a soft rucksack if only travelling with a small cabin bag. It always seems to be the small trolley cases that get pulled up (to be fair I have my doubts that a hard trolley case could be manouvered under the seats even if within the size restrictions)

That's not right .
** All customers can bring on board:

One small cabin bag
• Maximum size 45 x 36 x 20cm (including any handles or wheels)
• Includes items like a small trolley case, handbag, rucksack and laptop bag, but please check dimensions
• Needs to fit under the seat in front of you
• Maximum weight 15kg. You need to be able to lift and carry the bag yourself**

roses2 · 12/01/2023 16:20

That's a chargeable bag. The free one is rucksack size.

FarFlungFlamingo · 12/01/2023 16:20

45 x 36 x 20 are the dimensions allowed for a small cabin bag. Large cabin bags are 56 x 45 x 25
