To be fed up of supermarket low stock

BradfordGirl · 08/01/2023 18:55

Since Christmas stock is so low in the supermarkets. I have tried different supermarkets and going at different times, it makes no difference. Today I had to go two supermarkets so I could buy bread, milk and ham - so hardly an exotic shopping list. The supermarkets all have some large empty spaces in their fruit and veg section and lots of other things missing. And trying to get eggs is not easy.
The only supermarket with good stock is the co-op. I went in as I had been a few places trying to get eggs and was a bit taken aback to see shelves fully stocked. Unfortunately it is quite expensive.
But I am getting fed up of all the other supermarkets having permanently low stock.

Agree.. it's so tedious

Sparklesocks · 08/01/2023 18:58

It is annoying, but I don’t think there’s much that can be done as there are still supply chain issues in a lot of places

WhereIsMyRollingPin · 08/01/2023 19:03

There's one rather niche ingredient I use a lot of but it's been unavailable for weeks in three different supermarkets. A first world problem but annoying nonetheless.

Lack of drivers
Brexit

KleineDracheKokosnuss · 08/01/2023 19:05

I’m with you. It’s annoying. I end up having to go round the houses to finish a shop and I’ve a very limited window to do it in!

girlmom21 · 08/01/2023 19:06

What supermarkets have you tried? Morrisons have a good stock of eggs every morning but tend to be out by the afternoon.

HintofVintagePink · 08/01/2023 19:06

There seems to be two weeks in the month that we cannot find wheat squares cereal anywhere!

Eggs are well stocked in our local Lidl, although there is a limit of 2 boxes per customer.

I thought I was noticing generally fewer gaps on shelves now.

Romeiswheretheheartis · 08/01/2023 19:07

Ah, I just thought my local Sainsburys was being a bit rubbish, having no eggs. Didn't realise it's everywhere!

Adviceneeded200 · 08/01/2023 19:09

Been looking for cornflour and lemon sorbet for months! Think I might hit the cash and carry and buy a 6 ton.bag of the stuff snd be sorted for a decade

MsFogi · 08/01/2023 19:11

Welcome to Brexit Britain!

BradfordGirl · 08/01/2023 19:11

I got eggs in the Co-op. I was in ASDA today and there was a queue for the eggs being handed out by a staff member from a pallet - one box each.

But it is having to go to multiple shops to get ordinary foods that is annoying me. I don't want to spend extra time shopping.

Ours are all fairly well stocked to be honest! Even got cornflour recently. However our local farm shop has egg issues - apparently impacted by all of the bird flu and culling from last year especially.

MintJulia · 08/01/2023 19:12

I haven't once seen a supermarket without milk or bread yet, although I'm having to go to Marks or Waitrose to get decent quality wholemeal bread, but that's just what shops choose to sell.

I've seen a few shortages, but I have always found a substitute.

underneaththeash · 08/01/2023 19:13

Absolutely no issues here - both sainsburys and Waitrose are fully stocked in town. Nothing apart from mini mashmallows was missing from last two shopping orders.

Leggingslife · 08/01/2023 19:14

Brexit. If you voted for it, you can't now moan about the impact.

Eggs is to do with avian flu, not Brexit.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 08/01/2023 19:19

I’m always perplexed by these threads, we can always get everything. Eggs, spices, not once have I not got everything on my shopping list. Dh came back with all the unusual ingredients I needed to make a curry today.

where the hell are you all?!

GPTec1 · 08/01/2023 19:21

Pisses me off, i shop in France very often and they always seem to have what i want (chicken aside which seems to be more seasonal) over here so much is missing or poor quality.

In particular, I can't get low salt sugar alternatives of sauces or low sugar choc spread, own brand porridge oats are like eating cardboard, yet the same stuff a few months ago was fine & then there is the food inflation, way higher than i see in France.

I guess the delays at the borders make over seas drivers not want to come here and/or European suppliers are prioritising the EU ?

GeorgiaGirl52 · 08/01/2023 19:23

Having the same problem here in the USA. Bread not scarce, but milk, eggs, cheese and fresh fruits hard to find. Is that Brexit too?

I thought it was because the supermarkets are underpaying the farmers, charging customers more but not passing it on.

FirstnameSuesecondnamePerb · 08/01/2023 19:27

Yep agree. Big tesco. No eggs, no rice, no chicken thighs, empty shelf where yoghurts should be, no 2/4 pint milk, only 6 pts (no good for elderly mum).
It's hardly the second world war, but it tedious

Spiralleddown · 08/01/2023 19:28

I went into my local Asda the other day and it was all but empty. I felt like I'd walked into the apocalypse

MrsJBaptiste · 08/01/2023 19:30

Eggs are never in stocks in Asda or Sainsburys (Leeds)

Tesco (I think) have now stopped selling cornflour as they didn't sell enough!

Its random, so i rarely shop where i used to, even thought its nearer... but only has one SM.... i go to another town, which has 3 supermarkets... that way i can get what i want.

Yes i can't get own brand low salt sugar tomato sauce either, been missing off the shelves for weeks now.

I got cornflour in my Tesco shop over Christmas.
