To be fed up of supermarket low stock

BradfordGirl · 08/01/2023 18:55

Since Christmas stock is so low in the supermarkets. I have tried different supermarkets and going at different times, it makes no difference. Today I had to go two supermarkets so I could buy bread, milk and ham - so hardly an exotic shopping list. The supermarkets all have some large empty spaces in their fruit and veg section and lots of other things missing. And trying to get eggs is not easy.
The only supermarket with good stock is the co-op. I went in as I had been a few places trying to get eggs and was a bit taken aback to see shelves fully stocked. Unfortunately it is quite expensive.
But I am getting fed up of all the other supermarkets having permanently low stock.

Haven't been able to buy red lentils from either Lidl, Sainsbury or Co-op.

HotDogJumpingFrogHaveACookie · 10/01/2023 21:35

I rarely go to the supermarket and haven't had any supply issues from our local farm, butchers or greengrocers. Went to Tesco at the weekend and was shocked by how empty the shelves were. And there were bigger sections of some products which were clearly there to make them appear less empty.

Im going to more different story markets more often than ever and still can't find any broccoli. 🥦

thewooster · 13/01/2023 16:41

@verdantverdure plenty of broccoli at Tesco at 3pm today. There was more broccoli to the right of this as well which I did not get in the photo. Keep searching - it does still exist. Good luck!

I’m not sure if you’re being sarcastic but I really don’t believe they’re all too unwell to work.

1.3m claim PIP or DLA.

9m is the total economically inactive.... which includes weirdly students (2.6m of the total)

Students don't get their years of study count toward state pension, benefit claimants do.....

I'd been doing a weekly ASDA shop for the last few weeks, but I think I'll go back to M&S or shop ASDA in person to be honest. The amount of out of stock items or substitutes is insane, and the items they substitute are always a really dumb choice.

We only spend about £45-£55 a week and last week there were 3 items out of stock, and 5 further substitutes. The week before, we had 8 substitutes.

It's getting stressful knowing we'll have to go to the shop anyway for all the items that were out of stock - we meal plan down to the T, so any missing items can put a spanner in the works for us.

Broccoli desert here sadly Sad

Pugsbladder · 14/01/2023 13:09

Local Coop usually has a good selection of vegetables including broccoli.

Caramac555 · 14/01/2023 14:37

It's a bit frustrating when you're trying to meal plan to save money, and when you're trying not to spend on petrol driving around to different shops or doing too many top up shops ( I have poor basket discipline)

Also, lots of really short dates on food here, especially meat.

Still I'll worry when the shelves look like in the lockdown panic buying days

I still haven't found any broccoli. We had to make Green Thai curry with frozen tonight. I can't make the Children's favourite pasta until I get some.

I GOT SOME BROCCOLI AT LAST!

That's great news Verdan 😀I was worried we was secretly hoarding it all in Notts!

SkankingWombat · 16/01/2023 21:00

I managed to get broccoli too this weekend (Waitrose), although the heads were tiny. I'd usually buy one huge head, but needed 3 of them to make up the equivalent size.

I thought ours were a bit diddy too.

It's very difficult if shopping for someone with ASD related very narrow diet- I'm trailing around for cream crackers and making do with unheard of ones from barhain type shops. None of the supermarkets had cucumbers this week.

FabFitFifties · 17/01/2023 22:56

Bargain stores

Cuppasoupmonster · 17/01/2023 23:00

8 substitutes in my shop today out of about 25 items Hmm some were fine but who sends choc chip cookies in lieu of breakfast pastries?

MaryMcCarthy · 18/01/2023 13:30

They had no cucumbers at all in my local Sainsbury's for a whole month of last year. What's going on there?

maddy68 · 18/01/2023 13:33

It can only be Brexit. I live in spain and commute frequently to France. Zero shortages here I was staggered at the empty shelves a few weeks ago when I came to the UK for the Xmas visit.

I think it's sainsbury's. Lots of cucumbers in asda.

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 18/01/2023 13:41

It must vary as I have had no problem since Christmas in my usual Tesco. Only thing I couldn't find was an unusual ingredient for a recipe but that didn't surprise or concern me.

Madcats · 18/01/2023 13:47

I can't say that I have noticed shortages here (Bath), BUT I get an Ocado delivery most weeks and just pop into a 'convenience store' like a Tesco Express/Coop if I want some eggs/rice/salad. I can't remember the last time we drove to a big supermarket.

I remember problems in the heatwave, when fridges and freezers couldn't cope, but not recently.

Oysterbabe · 18/01/2023 13:50

I've managed to get some (Tesco own brand) cream crackers you'll all be relieved to know.
