To think the family in the On The Beach advert

Are ill-mannered Oafs? The woman carelessly flinging her flip flop so it hits a stranger, the boy child showing obvious pleasure at the girl's ice cream misfortune?
All it says to me is try to avoid anywhere frequented by people who have booked via this outfit as they will be obnoxious.

Ahh yes, that is lovely!

Thereisnolight · 18/01/2023 12:12

But not all holidaymakers have a lovely perfect family like that so it’s nice to see some ads going for a more humorous approach.

BitOutOfPractice · 18/01/2023 12:15

What an unpleasant thread.

😂😂😂 You got a YANBU from me simply because I can't stand Christmas music being played when it's not Christmas. Arguably one of the worst adverts on telly.

Whenever I see a crap Tv advert I always think to myself that some smug stale, pale male probably created that piece of shit advert and patted himself on the back.

I have no idea how so many bad adverts are created nowadays.

The most annoying are the perfume ones - Natalie Portman "And what would you do for love?" The Marion Cottilard one with her awful whiney singing over the top. The Go Compare adverts.

The one advert I did really like recently was AirBnb I think with the family as "strangers" and the Ikea ones are normally quite inventive.

I love the IKEA ones with the turtle and the hare, and the sheep/"proper" nightclub. Now that is visionary. An A+ in marketing.

Also the original Samsung phone advert that folds in half with the cat and its friends taking selfies. Not the mediocre one they replaced it with.

Nobody seems to have 'got'it. You are all talking about it and that's what the ad was designed to do. The worse it is.. the more you all talk !

I understand it's to increase brand awareness but it is also surely supposed to increase brand consideration? I'm in the target market (I think) having used Jet2 for a short holiday last year - but all this Ad says to me is "these are the kind of rude obnoxious people our brand wishes to be associated with - so if you don't like the look of this, don't book with us".

The ad is full of buzz type words and phrases and the tunes stay in our heads. It is clever, obnoxious and in yer face.. and it works. Its telling you that you get more bang for your buck and let's face it we all want that !
I can see past the dreadful 'Matilda' family. I'm not bothered by people like that until they sit near me on the 'plane. Apart from that they do not put me off at all.

MarshaBradyo · 18/01/2023 15:48

Tbf I wouldn’t hook with them anyway so the ad isn’t for me

A bit like some packaging in supermarket tells me it’s not for me

MarshaBradyo · 18/01/2023 15:49

Book

@HeBrokeMyNecklace oh yes I love the Airbnb one. Simple idea but I thought it was very sweet and clever!

As opposed to your insightful social comment I guess? You’re welcome.

REP22 · 18/01/2023 17:16

You're not wrong. Ghastly scrotes the lot of them. God knows what the ad agency was thinking.

At least I've elaborated - you have haven't bothered to explain, just sneered.

Oh the irony. This thread is one big snobby sneer from beginning to end. The name calling of children has been particularly unedifying. Is that enough explanation?

Tony715 · 11/02/2023 23:26

I totally agree with everything with the negative response to the add totally obnoxious family reincarnation of Mr Blobby at least he was funny

TheDadOfRoblox · 27/01/2024 16:39

I agreed here. I have yet to have sons

LlynTegid · 27/01/2024 16:40

It is an advert that convinces me I can manage without an airport lounge.

VickyEadieofThigh · 27/01/2024 16:51

I hate the ad and can't bear that family; however, I don't need them to turn me off 'On the Beach', because the plethora of awful reviews, dreadful stories about them on 'Rip Off Britain: holidays', etc was quite enough.

TonTonMacoute · 27/01/2024 17:12

Hate the ad too, can't think why they thought it was a good look for their adverts.

Its not snobby to not want to go on holiday with such an inconsiderate bunch of people btw.

I have a pet theory that all the people making TV ads today are freshies out of uni, ink not dry on their degree and no life experience. Therefore they know nothing of what motivates the average punter. They go for the lowest common denominator and create their concept of the sort of family that buys this kind of holiday. I feel sorry for the people signing the checks and following their advice.

KnottyKnitting · 16/02/2024 17:54

I absolutely loathe these adverts and would not book through them on principal.

I can't see how they think it will encourage you to book a holiday with them if the family in the ad are the demographic they encourage- I would pay not to be anywhere near that lot- obnoxious kids and creepy father...

ButterBastardBeans · 16/02/2024 18:05

Posters saying we shouldn't call the kid fat. He is fat. It's thinking like this that is normalising obesity and for those who say what harm is it doing, it's wrecking lives and the NHS, that's what.

Nannie3 · 09/01/2025 15:24

I agree that family put me off booking with On the Beach and even more so with Paddy McGuiness 'suggestive expletive' !!
