To think the family in the On The Beach advert

Are ill-mannered Oafs? The woman carelessly flinging her flip flop so it hits a stranger, the boy child showing obvious pleasure at the girl's ice cream misfortune?
All it says to me is try to avoid anywhere frequented by people who have booked via this outfit as they will be obnoxious.

they are supposed to be an ordinary non model like family

They look feral

Iwantmyoldnameback · 17/01/2023 10:06

OMG the snobbery on here. I suppose everyone on here's children would give their little sister their ice-creams. I think it's a funny advert in the same way as I think Benidorm was funny.
Airport lounges are over rated too, but people seem to think they are something special if they use them.

Agree. If they came to any beach I was on I'd push them all in the fucking sea.

Isn't this the company that doesn't offer the full protection package? Hopefully they'll get stranded where they are by a volcano ash incident and be so pissed off with their lack of cover that they never go on holiday again.

I actual booked with On the Beach during the Icelandic volcanic ash incident in 2010 and they were very good. We had to move hotels but they put us up in the Hilton for an extra four days all inclusive. I haven't booked again with them since as I've not really had opportunity but would definitely use them again for this reason.

Teaandtoast3 · 17/01/2023 10:16

Whereas I do recommend on the beach. I will say I haven’t seen the advert you are talking about… but during Covid we had two holidays booked with them. Both cancelled. Both refunded with no issues what so ever.

ancientgran · 17/01/2023 10:18

I was just thinking this last night, I tend to "do" something during adverts but I'm not feeling well at the moment so last night I watched this advert and thought how vile they were. Not sure who thought it was a good idea.

YANBU, they remind me of Matilda’s family!

The boy reminds me of Dudley Dursley!

I absolutely hate that advert. I wouldn’t book a holiday with that firm now out of principal.

The use of a Christmas song for a sunshine holiday ad annoys the shite out of me, too.

Catspyjamas17 · 17/01/2023 10:26

But the boy is extremely overweight and the girl is quite overweight. Whenever the advert comes on, DH and i rant about the normalisation of childhood obesity and how damaging it is

God, you must be a laugh a minute at parties.

No ethical company should be using fat children in their advertising because it serves to reinforce the dangerous misconception that childhood obesity is acceptable.

It IS acceptable. Adults and children who are fat as just as acceptable human beings as you are.

What about that ad for plant based burgers that features what I thought was going ot be a public information film about drunken youths wasting ambulance time on nights out in the city? blindsides me every time I see it! Agree there's a few ads out there The Apprentice teams would be proud of!

HeBrokeMyNecklace · 17/01/2023 10:35

Whenever I see a crap Tv advert I always think to myself that some smug stale, pale male probably created that piece of shit advert and patted himself on the back.

I have no idea how so many bad adverts are created nowadays.

The most annoying are the perfume ones - Natalie Portman "And what would you do for love?" The Marion Cottilard one with her awful whiney singing over the top. The Go Compare adverts.

The one advert I did really like recently was AirBnb I think with the family as "strangers" and the Ikea ones are normally quite inventive.

HeBrokeMyNecklace · 17/01/2023 10:41

Also how the hell did On the Beach go from one of the best adverts I've seen to the worst???

OnMyWayToSenility · 17/01/2023 10:43

I thought it was a joke and supposed to be like Matilda's family?
He really looks like Danny de Vito!

Rhondaa · 17/01/2023 10:46

The Dad looks more like the grandad. His wife is young and attractive, no way would she be with that horror.

Catspyjamas17 · 17/01/2023 10:49

The Marion Cotillard Chanel no 5 ad is the only current perfume I actually like.

Shgytfgtf111 · 17/01/2023 10:50

Im glad its not just me, i hate them all. Smug scumbags

Plumbear2 · 17/01/2023 10:58

I wonder if this is a real family, the boy and father look very much alike. Anyone know?

ChangedmynameagainforChristmas · 17/01/2023 11:06

Nobody seems to have 'got'it. You are all talking about it and that's what the ad was designed to do. The worse it is.. the more you all talk !

We know how adverts are meant to work. Didn't need to go to the University of marketing to know that. Doesn't mean we have to like them.

Conkersinautumn · 17/01/2023 12:21

Oh yes, how dare I exist as a fat person? I must be reminded by the very "cream" of MN that I am a substandard human who should avoid being seen at all costs. Good job I don't stay in hotels really, you might find it very tiresome having to shove your sunglasses down to give me a glare.

Bonjovispyjamas · 17/01/2023 12:35

I hate it purely because of ruining a perfectly good Christmas song.

Unlikely

dottypotter · 17/01/2023 13:22

Love the wording, it definately is the best time of the year. It beats Christmas any day does a holiday. I think OTB are asking on their Facebook page what people think?

They will be loving all the attention. All publicity bad or good is good for them.

Ha!
I said I'd never book with them if that was the sort of clientele they are looking to attract.
It's an awful advert, the music is catchy, but I know I will actively avoid them.

I'll have to read this thread to DS8 (clean version, lol) as he ABSOLUTELY HATES the ad and goes into a rant every time The Masked Singer goes on a break. I'm scarily good at just zoning out during commercials but will pay attention to it next time to see if I agree with these complaints Grin

My DD8 is exactly the same! It ruins the first two minutes of The Masked Singer for her after every ad break as she finds them so rude and obnoxious. She won’t stop ranting either.

electricmoccasins · 17/01/2023 14:44

Now this… (still gives me goosebumps)
