To think 4.70 for a pret sandwich is too expensive?

A sandwich. Not a baguette or flatbread etc. am sure they used to be about £3.50 not so long ago.

3.50 will get you a rubbish supermarket one though. Inflation innit.

BritAbroad101 · 02/01/2023 17:58

Pret is overpriced shite. Go to Greggs

Untitledsquatboulder · 02/01/2023 17:59

Well inflation covers sandwiches too. Increased ingredients, energy costs, rents, wages.... Lucky its a non-essential purchase.

ApolloandDaphne · 02/01/2023 17:59

Pret has always been expensive. I'm not sure what you want us to say. You can go somewhere cheaper or make a sandwich at home?

mynameiscalypso · 02/01/2023 18:00

Pret has definitely got hugely more expensive. It's the thing I notice most - a sandwich, drink and snack will set you back close to £10.

😂

It's hardly a secret that inflation is high at the moment. Well, it applies to sandwiches too. All of the ingredients have got more expensive.

Also, who do you think they are "too expensive" for? People who are buying Pret are not the most price sensitive consumers are they?

HoneyIShrunkThePizza · 02/01/2023 18:05

I like Pret but I do tend to buy it when on business (and therefore expensing). Far superior to a supermarket sandwich. For a start, it's made that day and not soggy!

Pret is shite so 30p is too much for one of their sandwiches.

ilovesooty · 02/01/2023 18:07

Your own circumstances and opinion will define "too expensive" so our opinion isn't really relevant.

red4321 · 02/01/2023 18:08

I've noticed that Pret is far more expensive. Might be my memory playing tricks but I'm sure Pret was a cheaper (but fresh) option when it first started, e.g. tea was 99 pence, sandwiches were around £3.

I confess to being a big Pret fan but even the biscuits are around £3 now.

Twiglets1 · 02/01/2023 18:08

Pret is better quality than many other sandwich providers so personally I’m happy to pay it. If you aren’t then shop elsewhere, but clearly enough people agree with me to make those prices viable

WhereIsMyRollingPin · 02/01/2023 18:09

Well, yes, but why buy sandwiches? Much cheaper and nicer to make your own. You can have your perfect combination and filling that way.

I second the vote for Greggs.

Get yersel' a Scotch pie, hen. 😋

fajitaaaa · 02/01/2023 18:11

I imagine they got hit hard by the pandemic and also they have to pay their staff

Because I don't want to carry a packed lunch around London the whole morning. And I don't always have suitable ingredients for a nice sandwich at home (appreciate this is fixable with better organisation).

MadameDe · 02/01/2023 18:12

It's life at the moment. I nearly had a heart attack today at the cost of a nice loaf of bread from Gail's. Nearly £5!

Pret is no better than a supermarket one.

Oysterbabe · 02/01/2023 18:12

I know someone who runs a shop. A couple of years ago his energy costs were £10,000 a year. Now they are £50,000. Everything else has skyrocketed too. These costs can't just be absorbed.

dottiedodah · 02/01/2023 18:14

Sandwiches are very expensive really. I tend to have one for a treat now tbh

JamSandle · 02/01/2023 18:14

I just make my own now. Loved Pret but just too expensive.

LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet · 02/01/2023 18:14

YANBU and they taste bland. So would rather use an independent shop where they make it fresh

Sirzy · 02/01/2023 18:15

I used to semi regularly get butties from Greggs. I noticed the price was going up (understandably) so I don’t buy they as often now.

everyone will make their own call on what is worth it for them.
