Amazon Prime getting all the Christmas Football

girlfriend44 · 27/12/2022 17:35

Very few people could watch Xmas premiership games as they were ALL on Amazon. Not even shared with Sky and BT just all on Amazon.
Not even pubs could show it and apparently there were some problems with the broadcasting of it too.
Who the hellmade this crazy decision at tge Premiership to ignore all Sky and BT Customers and give ALL the football to Amazon?

Very happy with it in this house - we don't have Sky so it's great being able to watch all the games on Prime!

MintsPi · 27/12/2022 17:42

They have packages they sell to broadcasters and Amazon bought one! As with most things it boils down to the money.

Amazon do free trials so worth using that if you are a football fan or just buying a month subscription as you can time it to get the 3 weeks before Xmas which helps with last minute presents through free delivery.

I agree it is frustrating though to have to have 3 subscriptions to watch the Premier League especially as this doesn't even include every match.

Samcro · 27/12/2022 17:44

Does that mean no football on normal tv?
that would be brilliant

AnotherAppleThief · 27/12/2022 17:46

Plenty of people have amazon and not sky or bt. Can't say I've seen a thread spitting feathers about either of those hosting all the football.

Premiership isn't shown on 'normal TV' anyway.

BeansOnToast32 · 27/12/2022 17:49

It's been on Prime at Christmas for a good few years now! At least 3 or 4

Because Amazon bought the exclusive rights, just as Sky/BT did previously

Amazon prime is £7.99 per month, and can be free on an initial trial
That probably makes it more affordable for football fans then a Sky/BT sports package

Againstmachine · 27/12/2022 17:54

I find it amusing people complain about having to pay extra to Amazon, whilst not questioning the cast amounts they pay to sky.

mynameiscalypso · 27/12/2022 17:55

Surely more people have Amazon Prime than Sky/BT? They're so expensive but Prime is relatively good value for what you get for it and for most people the TV is just an added bonus to the delivery.

DrMarciaFieldstone · 27/12/2022 17:56

People who don’t have sky or BT haven’t been able to watch games for years?

Mybestyear · 27/12/2022 17:56

I remember the days when people complained Sky had a monopoly and other companies should get a share of the action. Well that was an own goal cos now you’ve got to pay even more to see all the big games.

Oblomov22 · 27/12/2022 17:57

Not bothered. Prime is cheaper than sky.

AndNobbyDancing · 27/12/2022 17:59

I subscribe to both BT and Sky Sports, and I love that the boxing day matches were on Amazon.
£7.99, no contract and free first month means it is affordable way to watch. For years I couldn't afford to have football packages, it shouldn't be a game only the affluent can watch.

OhhhhhhhhBiscuits · 27/12/2022 18:01

It was great yesterday having some premier league football on. We will not pay the vast amount for sky sports so it's great to have some at Christmas.

UsingChangeofName · 27/12/2022 18:07

Well, as we are amongst the many who have Amazon Prime, but not Sky or BT, I'm happy. Smile

AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 27/12/2022 18:08

Why do you say very few people have Amazon Prime? I thought millions had it based on all the stuff they buy from there. It's reall good value for what you get imo

girlmom21 · 27/12/2022 18:10

Yep - it's the cheapest option and you can buy Prime and cancel any time.

LlynTegid · 27/12/2022 18:11

Football exists outside the Premiership. Also perhaps some of those complaining could support one of their local teams and go to a game.

Isn't Prime cheaper than Sky Sports ?

Yup, football is not a TV show.

👏🏻👏🏻

BashfulClam · 27/12/2022 18:14

Amazon has added value. It’s worth having for some things.

marmaladepop · 27/12/2022 18:19

Very happy in this house as have Prime but no other TV package. Wish you could just pay per view and watch whatever you liked on any of them though.

TakeYourFinalPosition · 27/12/2022 18:28

Almost all the pubs near me had it on, even the ones that don’t usually show sport.

Some people did have technical issues, but not everyone. I had it on all day and had no issues. And that happens with Sky & BT, too.
