Amazon Prime getting all the Christmas Football

girlfriend44 · 27/12/2022 17:35

Very few people could watch Xmas premiership games as they were ALL on Amazon. Not even shared with Sky and BT just all on Amazon.
Not even pubs could show it and apparently there were some problems with the broadcasting of it too.
Who the hellmade this crazy decision at tge Premiership to ignore all Sky and BT Customers and give ALL the football to Amazon?

Why do you say pubs can't show it? Yesterday we were in a bar (admittedly associated with a local football club) and they had premier league games on via Amazon?

I get that it's another cost for pubs, but not a huge one?

Does that mean no football on normal tv?
that would be brilliant

Yes this. Hurrah!
Haven't we suffered enough football recently?

🤣🤣🤣

What's funny about that Confused It's a really good idea. My local team had a gate of almost 10,000 on Boxing Day and they play at a low level. Fantastic entertainment and wonderful atmosphere .

Seeing as it's the most loved sport all around the World from Children through to adults I think your in the minority.

It's partly to do with where Christmas falls and the playing schedule. I think Amazon have the rights to midweek Premier league matches. Sky have the rights to Saturday late kick off, Sunday and Monday night and BT Sport get the early Saturday premier league kick off.

No they don't.
Sky have some Monday night games and a Friday night game sometimes.

I forgot the Friday night games - I mentioned Monday night previously. That's for 8pm kick off as a rule.

Amazon have rights for any premiership games midweek, it appears.

stockpilingallthecheese · 27/12/2022 20:46

It's great as they also have all the games instead of just one or two that would usually be on Sky or BT, I pay for all 3 but think prime is great value in comparison

It’s a bit like saying “hey, instead of going and watching a blockbuster movie, why don’t you check out what’s on at the local am-dram instead”.

I don’t doubt a lot of people enjoy watching their local teams, but there’s a reason no-one is paying billions to sponsor them or show the games on TV. It’s not comparable.

It really isn't despite your insistence, most people don't give a toss.

I think you'll find that "most people don't give a toss" simply isn't true.

Florenz · 27/12/2022 21:07

Far more people have Prime than have Sky or BT Sport, and Prime is much cheaper, pubs can show the games that are on Prime just as easily as they can the ones on Sky or BT. I don't see the problem here.

The club local to me charges £72 for two adults to stand in the freezing cold and rain to watch them.
No thanks. It's not even a club we support, so why spend good money.
I love that it's on Amazon ( I'm a prime member ) it means we can watch it on the husband's TV in his warm mancave instead of streaming it on the computer.

Minority? Maybe so, but I have absolutely no interest in it whatsoever and am very glad if it gets confined to someone else's telly.

That was my point. Why weren't they shared over Xmas.

Why did Amazon need them all.
Sky and BT never get them all?😮

@Againstmachine

it's much more important than that

user1487194234 · 27/12/2022 21:22

Football is a priority in this house so we have all required platforms

Florenz · 27/12/2022 21:32

Amazon get them all over Christmas as an incentive for people to get Amazon Prime where they can also get all their Christmas presents delivered.

Business package prices vary but in the 2nd link is approx £300 for a particular range of pub sizes

DelorisVC · 27/12/2022 21:43

I'm happy about it too, especially as they're showing the Arsenal, City match in February.
We watched a bit of a Premier league match in a pub before heading to see our local team play yesterday.
Half watching the Man U Forrest fame now. The second half is a bit boring tbh so I've resorted to MN.

Now you understand how people with terrestrial tv felt when they lost the football. We live in a world where highest bidder wins

Probably and push book shops etc out of business.
Then when other people have gone out of business, the only choice will be Amazon.

It really isn't despite your insistence, most people don't give a toss.

Well BBC had 14.9 million watching live on TV and a further 7.1 streaming it live, then ITV were also showing it at the same time. That's in the UK when no home countries were involved in the final.

Apparently it is though 1.5 billion watched it worldwide.

So I think I'm with girlfriend on this point, rather than Againstmachine.

TinySaltLick · 27/12/2022 22:06

There isn't some sort of conspiracy that Amazon stole the Christmas games - they are broken down into lots and a reasonably transparent auction takes place between broadcasters. Amazon bid the most for the package they won. If you truly want someone to blame for the split across providers - blame the FA, although it then becomes slightly anti competitive to award them all to one party and deprives the clubs from broadcasting revenue
