Amazon Prime getting all the Christmas Football

girlfriend44 · 27/12/2022 17:35

Very few people could watch Xmas premiership games as they were ALL on Amazon. Not even shared with Sky and BT just all on Amazon.
Not even pubs could show it and apparently there were some problems with the broadcasting of it too.
Who the hellmade this crazy decision at tge Premiership to ignore all Sky and BT Customers and give ALL the football to Amazon?

Very happy with it here!!!

DeliberatelyObtuse · 27/12/2022 18:32

I pay less for Amazon Prime in a year than I pay for Sky in a month

It's annoying when stuff isn't on mainstream tv but Prime is so much cheaper than Sky (and I get free deliveries etc) so certainly more accessible to some

PeekAtYou · 27/12/2022 18:38

Just googled and 12.76 million UK households had Amazon Prime video in 2022 Q2

unclebuck · 27/12/2022 18:39

It's gone down very very well here, I have prime for work but we cannot afford any other TV subscriptions

UnfinishedUserna · 27/12/2022 18:40

Rather spend £8 on prime with no tied in contract than the £££ rip off prices of sky!!

1001Daffodils · 27/12/2022 18:47

We can't afford Sky/BT but because Prime covers far more options (music/kindle library/deliveries) we can stretch to that.

It was great for my husband to be able to watch football at home yesterday.

Given that Prime also has a more generous "trial" option than either BT or Sky YABU and rather entitled.

goingback · 27/12/2022 18:48

DP watching some footy today, not got any sports channels, as long as it doesn't inspire him to get a subscription

Againstmachine · 27/12/2022 19:12

Usually the coverage is better on sky as well.

Againstmachine · 27/12/2022 19:12

Amazon I meant

Plenty of people have amazon and not sky or bt. Can't say I've seen a thread spitting feathers about either of those hosting all the football.

Pubs cannot show it and that is a stream of income for them.
I know more people with BT sport and Sky than with Amazon . People have also complained about the Amazon coverage is not very good.

Read what I said about pubs and also there have been problems showing the game on Amazon.

The premiership have kicked their loyal customers like bt and sport in the teeth by giving all the games to Amazon. Why all of them. Hardly entitled to question this fact.

I haven’t watched football on Amazon but the Rugby union autumn internationals that they covered were excellent, no issue with the coverage at all . It’s 8.99 to sign up to Prime for 1 month which is not a lot to watch all the Christmas football if that’s what floats your boat and if you can afford Sky / BT I should imagine that you have 8.99 to spare .

dottypotter · 27/12/2022 20:01

FTHC · 27/12/2022 18:14

Yup, football is not a TV show.

👏🏻👏🏻

Is this for real?
If people want to watch top sport why shouldn't they?
Returning to the question. I cannot understand also why they couldn't have shared the games out. Why did Amazon have to have them all?

So? Amazon subscribers have just as much right to have ot shiwen so they can watch it.i have had no problem with the coverage, certainly sky and bt aren't perfect either.

I don't understand the moaning, if you want or watch it then you'll have to subscribe just like you obviously do to the other services.

It's partly to do with where Christmas falls and the playing schedule. I think Amazon have the rights to midweek Premier league matches. Sky have the rights to Saturday late kick off, Sunday and Monday night and BT Sport get the early Saturday premier league kick off.

You have to have the Internet to watch amazon prime. You do not have to with Sky.

Of course they can show it - they just need to pay for the access as you do with any other sports event which isn't on terrestrial

btsportbusiness.com/amazonpass

It is via bt box office so it doesn't even need any special tech to make it work

AndNobbyDancing · 27/12/2022 20:08

Amazon are better imo than Sky and BT, certainly my local pub were showing it.

The games are sold in blocks, amazon paid a lot to drive people to become Prime members. If games were on other channels it wouldn't drive sales. Money has long been the driving force behind sport.

Againstmachine · 27/12/2022 20:09

Pubs can show what they want as long as they pay. I know.people who work in industry.

Stop complaining you don't complain when it's on. but you have sky so wind your neck in.

Do you know a single person who had sky installed at their house and doesn't have access to the Internet?

Can you even get sky to install that configuration any more?

Most set top boxes and smart tvs can access it via an app without needing a pc or other device

girlfriend44 · 27/12/2022 20:10

mynameiscalypso · 27/12/2022 17:55

Surely more people have Amazon Prime than Sky/BT? They're so expensive but Prime is relatively good value for what you get for it and for most people the TV is just an added bonus to the delivery.

Some people don't even shop with amazon so don't need a subscription.

I don't shop with Amazon but have a subscription, partly because of the football but mainly because of the tennis

doodleygirl · 27/12/2022 20:13

Now you understand how people with terrestrial tv felt when they lost the football. We live in a world where highest bidder wins

Floralnomad · 27/12/2022 20:14

I really can’t imagine that there are many people who have Sky that don’t have internet at home , and they could always watch on their phone or cast it ( whatever the word is ) .

ilovesooty · 27/12/2022 20:16

It doesn't seem as though the OP has read my post explaining how different broadcasters have rights to broadcast different Premiership matches, depending on the schedule.
